The 'Crisis in the Ummah' Series

Allah tells us the Qur'an 'The believers are nothing else than brothers'. Therefore our love, care and effection are not based upon blood, colour, nationality, tribe etc. But it based simply on the statement that 'none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and Muhammad is his final messanger. When a person makes this statement then automatically he should be loved by Muslims. The ummah is going through many trials and difficulties at this time, many Muslim countries are going through extremely severe situations.

The Prophet said that “The Muslim Ummah is like one body. If the eye is in pain then the whole body is in pain and if the head is in pain then the whole body is in pain”. The ummah is currently being subjected to violent wars, poverty, torture, oppression, imprisonment and much more. If we are to feel the pain for our brothers and sisters then we have to possess knowledge about their situation.

In order to raise awareness about the situation of our brothers and sisters Lewisham Islamic Centre s having a 'crisis is the ummah' series. This series will inform us about the situation in some Muslim countries, this month we will focus on places such as Kashmir, China, Palestine and Chechnya. There are many countries that we could speak about therefore we will be having more series of this nature in the future insha'Allah.

'Families of Detainees'

The lecture for this week will be delivered Uthman Qureshi

Br. Uthman is part of iprogress and he has studied in Egypt. He is also the former head of Al-Khair secondary school.

This lecture is slightly different to what we have been covering in out series. As you may well know we have been covering countries in difficulties. This week we will be focusing on the families of those who have been imprisoned. This is very important because as we know many muslims are arrested and convicted very easily these days. We sometimes think about them and their situation. But how many times have we reflected on the families they left behind? Many times these families are boycotted by muslims, even though this is the time when they need their support.

In order to understand the situation and make steps towards making a change, we need to raise our awareness. This lecture is a means of doing so.
Don't turn you backs on the brothers and sisters. It could be you next.
