I am a freshman in college. The first semester in college, I did terrible, and was put in academic probation. I am losing hope now, because it is the second semester, and I am still not doing as hot. I prayed to Allah and I have read many surahs and duas. Before the midterms and studied and studied for my exams and prayed to Allah swt and did everything I can do. I have faith in Allah, but I am starting to lose faith in myself. I feel like no matter how hard I study, it doesn't seem to pay off...and I'm doing terrible. I don't want to disappoint my parents either...and I am scared I will get kicked out of college for a semester! I really want to stay, and am trying my hardest...but I feel like fate doesn't want me to stay. What can I do to improve? I am seeing academic mentors and everything! I am failing a class right now...and I studied my hardest for it! Is this a sign for Allah swt that maybe college isn't for me? What duas should I read in order to help me study? I am really close to giving up hope...and will probably have to since nothing is looking up!

you might want to talk to an adviser or TA, and definitely join a study group, it helps a lot.

Talk to your teachers and work on a course of action, a plan if you will.

While studying is important, its not the most important thing. Whats most important is you working towards jannah inshaAllah

try to drop out of your current courses and don't take too many difficult courses together if they are too much to handle in other words don't sign up for physics, organic chem, molecular biology and calculus all in the same term.. believe me many of us were there thinking I could finish early it doesn't work, just go at your own pace.. take one difficult subject, have a plan of action on how to do very well with that subject, heed the advise of others here by joining a study group or from my personal experience if I had difficulty with a subject then I'd purchase as an accompaniment one of those books for dummies for instance microbiology for dummies where they give you the high yield plus have nice devised mnemonics so you can improve memory plus a few fun subjects to level your average like philosophy or art history or languages.. once you have developed a plan that will work well for you can you go on taking multiple difficult courses at a time.. college is really about your own personal best not a group 't think too much of who is doing what and why else you'll never get a grip on what you have to do!

Thank you for the responses!

The thing is, because I am currently on academic probation...I am only allowed to take 12 credits, (4 courses) instead of the usual 15+ credits (5+ classes)
I am not a science major...and I know that if I had such difficult math and science courses...I would be struggling with that as well. I am taking the required general education courses. (I go to an American State School) The class which I am struggling with the most is my Critical Thinking and Philosophy class. It's all logic and fallacies and problems in that such format. There are only two grades in the class. The midterm, and the final. I did terrible on the midterm, after lots of studying and reviewing.
I am so scared that that will be the class which will really ruin things for me completely. The other classes, sadly, I am not doing as well as I was hoping I will do. I do have 2 months...but I don't know if it will be enough time to improve the grades! I am continuously praying and reading duas.
I am thinking that maybe its Allah's hint that college isn't for me?

Allah SWT helps those who help themselves akhi, if all achievements were achieved through du3a, then the prophet SAW wouldn't have told the Bedouin tie your camel and put your trust in Allah.

you doing poorly just means you are doing poorly, it is best to assess what it is that others who are doing well in the course are doing that you are not doing? The fact that you have made it to college already tells us that you don't have a slow mental capacity. But you doing poorly tells us that you are not doing something right.. critical thinking and philosophy are NOT cerebral courses, again telling me that you doing poorly doesn't have much to do with how you understand and reason through a problem, perhaps it is mere memory recall?

I don't know if there is a penalty for you dropping the course, but I would seriously advise that you drop or take an incomplete and regroup.. when you sign up for a course make sure it is the easiest course possible.. I think art history is probably one of the easiest of more enjoyable courses.. get your grade point average up then slowly start to introduce courses that are required of you, after you have familiarized yourself with your surrounding and the subject matter.. look at the old exam and questions that were asked and see what it is that the professors focused on and why you didn't do well.. also speak with your preceptors, asking them for help, try to make an appointment at office hour and ask them what it is that they focus on on the test, what it is that you have studied and where they have cut off points from you.. sometimes it is for something careless, I remember once a professor deducting 5 pts from my exam because I didn't write calcium with 2+ I was really vexed.. but you need to understand what it is they are looking for, if you are along for this journey..
