If you're talking about the gathering which is for the deceased, then this is a bid'ah (innovation) and has no basis in Islam.

I understand what you refer to Bro

It is the issue of gathering in the mosque for knowledge and listening to preaching or knowledge before salat Jomaa

Before prayer (Jomaa) :It is prohibited such gathering and the hadith is clear:

English :Narrated Abu Dawood (that the prophet prohibited gathering for listening and learning in mosque before the prayer of Friday )..

After prayer ,there is no hadith prohibit it .......

Imam Ibn Baaz said in his fatwa No 5186 :

The Hadith is classified by Imam al-Tirmidhi as Hasan (Fair)

which means:

"It refers to a Hadith which is known, its reporters are famous, the majority of the scholars have accepted it as evidence and the jurists utilize it."

Left one other word to add:

Imam yosuf Alqaradawy argued that the Hadith only makes it (Makrooh)not recommended, and not (haram) prohibited....
in other words If there are strong necessity for such gathering then it is ok.......
