Salaam,

Since media seems can't cover small issues about Muslims being victimized, we can share them with Muslim brothers, sisters and friends world wide here in conjunction with Xinjiang tragedy.

We can see what Communists had done to SEAn Muslims and how Muslims have to "hold the cross on their back in order to defend their faith" which is the faith of the prophets despite of oppressions from others the same as what happened in Xinjiang and elsewhere.

You can tell what happened to your country too as many people can't see what had happened in their country whether the country is a majority Muslim country, absorbed into other country like Xinjiang, colonized in the modern era like Palestine or etc.

Muslims story in Cambodia

"The armies with black uniform with a piece of black cloth tied on their head rushing into the city of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia in April 17th, 1975. They are those who were called as Khmer Rouge or Red Khmer by the king Sihanouk of Cambodia. Khmer Rouge or Anggar Padevat (Revolutioner Organization) had chase out the inhabitants of Phnom Penh and emptied the city 3 months before it was subdued. At that time Cambodia was under the rule of Lon Nol.

Among the brutal chiefs of Khmer Rouge is Pol Pot and his followers. Now they are still alive and in trials in the court for what they had done. It is estimated that almost 3 million Cambodians were murdered by Khmer Rouge. Pol Pot had executed ethnic cleansing campaign where the religious teachers and intellects were seized and shooting dead Buddhist monks and Muslim realigious leaders together with their family. They were also prohibited from keeping religious kitaab and Quran in their houses. Other than that, Muslims were prohibited from praying, fasting, and the execution of Hajj too had stopped between 1975 - 1979.

In the beginning, Muslims in Cambodia were about 400, 000, but in 1975, the total Muslims population had decreased to 350, 000 because some of them had died in the Khmer Rouge rebellion. Half of them survived and migrated to the border without returning back.

“I with my 50 other helpless family members sneaked out to Thailand border to seek refuge. Many of us too had been victims of hidden bombs, died, or losing their feet. Some were detained and brought back to Cambodia before being slained. We are among those who survived and managed to get through the border and it is just 15 of us. Upon passing the border we feel like we are alive from the death..." said Mad Li who had also migrated to other country. I had resently met him in his own house in Cambodian Village in Selangor.

"We just walked till we reached Bangkok. When some Muslim Thais know that we are Muslims, we suddenly received helps. We were given shelters and sufficient food every day. I want to pay them back for what their kindness but they refused to accept it! They advised us to move further South for our safety where there are many Muslims there. We agreed and they provided us Bus ticket to reach there. I really insist to pay them but they still refuse it..."

Mat Li further said, "Once we reached Southern Thai, we met many Muslim brothers. Some of them suggested us to cross the border to Malaysia as the country had majority Muslim population. There, Muhajirins are welcomed and that's true. Finally we reached Kelantan state in Malaysia's East Coast and Cambodian Muslim Villages were established in few states in the country. Among the first groups migrated like myself is Ismail Sasakul, a Cambodian who had once been Hong Kong film star."

After 1970, Cambodia received the visits of Russian and Vietnamese advisors who replaced the administration through Hun Sen. However at that time, the war is still running. Fire arms being brought into Cambodia from China, Russia, and the US supplied to Cambodians and the citizens are killing each other. The misunderstanding only stops when a peace treaty was signed in 1991 among the fighting groups.

The UN too had monitored the security of Cambodia till the first election was organized in 1993. At that time, the citizens including Muslims had gained back their freedom to live their life. Through Cambodian Muslim Organization, Cambodian government had executed few programs for Cambodian Muslims' welfare aborad. Cambodian Muslim community too had the opportunity to develop Cambodia beside contributing good ideas for their country. In 1997, three parliament members from among Muslims were chosen and there is about 200 masjids in Cambodia.

Majority of Muslims in Cambodia are from ethnic Champa or Chams which is about 95% of Muslim population. The state of Kompong Cham is among the biggest area with Muslim population comprising 35% of Cambodians since 1975 and 30, 000 of the Muslims can be seen in Phnom Penh. Other than that, the villages with Muslim majority population is Cambodia are the village Cheram Chemerai, the village Pok Bahau near Phnom Penh, the village Pok Serah, the village Pok An, and the village Pok Cerah.

I had been there around the year 2000 where I delivered my speech in Malay in Perik Aji (Parit Haji) in Kompong Cham. After that, I met few elders and I heard many interesting stories. Among them are about the courage of Cham Muslims who live in the village Koh Pohl in defending their Islamic Creed.

The village was said as the first village arise in defending their faith from the brutality of Khmer Rouge. The village Koh Pohl means the island burnt to the ground. It was named like that due to that the houses of the villagers were burnt down during the war. The story was told by the assistant of Imam, Muhammad Doth Arif.

“In the evening of 12 Ramadhan 1975, a group of 20 Khmer Rouge soldiers with a chief called the villagers to assemble in the Masjid. In the assembly the people were forced to abide to 5 rules.

1. Colllecting Quranic texts in a place and burning them to ashes.
2. Women were forced to cut their long usually tied hair short.
3. They should only marrying non-Muslim Khmers.
4. No fasting.
5. They must rear swines and consume the swine for themselves.

After the chief soldeir finished his speech, a kid around 6 years old rushed to the front and slapped the face of the Khmer Rouge chief due to his sensitivity toward swine issue. The matter had raised the spirit of villagers to leave the assembly. After that, they rose to fight the Khmer Rouge soldiers with solely sharp bamboos and parangs.

In the 9th day of the riot, Khmer Rouge attacked the village and shooting them but nobody was injured. After two days holding in their village, the villagers return back the attack. The shooting then happened and 48 villagers died. Finally the village was subdued and some of them managed to seek refuge in Vietnam. Later, Khmer Rouge had followed up with the brutality to the whole Cambodian Muslims.

Many of them died defending their faith toward G-d and martyred.

Chin Peng and Communist Brutality (Malaysian Peninsula)

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 -- Perhaps, not many Malaysians can remember or relate to the hardships of the emergency years between 1948 and 1960, which is considered a black episode in the country.

Thousands of civilians and security members, especially Muslim Malays, died at the hands of the communist terrorists, in the most cruel and merciless way, like being slashed, burnt, shot, hung or buried alive in their self-dug graves.

These incidents, which are almost forgotten, are being spoken and discussed again - all because the former Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) secretary-general Chin Peng wants to return to Malaysia.

Recently, when Penang Gerakan chairman Datuk Teng Hock Nan requested that the government allows Chin Peng to return to the country, many people felt that it would only reopen old wounds.

The excuse given by Teng that Chin Peng was now old and no longer a threat to the country, could not be accepted by victims and families who lost their loved ones during the war against the communists.

Should Chin Peng be allowed to return to Malaysia and what is the motive of those who want him back in the country when the High Court had already rejected his application?

Some four years ago, a political party tried to exploit the country's history by saying that it was due to objections from the CPM that Malaysia was granted its independence by the British.

This was considered an attempt to proclaim Chin Peng as the country's independent warrior, despite him been responsible for the death of thousands of people.

The fact remains that the CPM had nothing to do with efforts to free the Malay states from the colonials as clarified by Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Kim, who said that the CPM, formed in 1930, was part of an international communist operation, especially by the Russian Communist, to spread its ideology.

"They did not want to free this country from the British, but wanted to make the Malay States part of the world communist order," he added.

He said the communist ideology rejected the concept of nationhood, as well as political border and capitalism.

Based on these facts, the communist party led by Chin Peng had intended to turn the country into a communist republic.

According to historical facts, the CPM formed the Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA) and had cooperated with the British to fight against the Japanese when Japan invaded the Malay States from Feb 13, 1942, until Aug 15, 1945, which was during the Second World War.

The British also provided weapons, training, financial aid, logistics and medical supplies to MPAJA, also known as Bintang Tiga (Three Stars), which was joined mostly by Chinese because of their hatred for the Japanese invasion of China.

Bintang Tiga ruled the Malay States for 14 days after the Japanese defeat on Aug 16, 1945, until the British returned in early September. It was during this period that many civilians were tortured, raped and killed by the communist.

Most of the victims were Malays, who were accused of helping the Japanese and the British. The reason being that during the Japanese Occupation, the majority of the personnel in the Japanese Police, or the Jookidam, were Malays.

"After the British returned, the Malays rose and fought against the communist, only that they didn't understand that they were fighting the communist, not the Chinese," said Prof Khoo.

It was due to this misconception that led to racial clashes in several places, among them in Batu Pahat, Johor, and Sungai Manik, Perak, between September 1945 and April 1946.

On Oct 17, 1945, the Parti Kebangsaan Melayu Malaya (PKMM) was formed by Moktaruddin Lasso in Ipoh, Perak, to garner support from the Malays and to indoctrinate the communist ideology among the Malays.

At that time, the CPM was seen as having control over PKMM through leaders like Rashid Maidin, Abdullah C.D, Arshad Ashaari and Mokhtaruddin.

The formation of the Federal Malay States on Feb 1, 1948, was a blow to the communist party in its attempt to turn the country into a communist republic.

Prior to that, the British formed the Malayan Union and placed the Malay States and the Straits Settlements, including Singapore, under the rule of governor Sir Edward Gent.

"After the formation of the Federated Malay States, which restored the power of the Malay Rulers, the communist surrendered.

"The CPM was disappointed that the British restored the power of the Malay Rulers," historian Prof Datuk Dr Ramlah Adam said.

This led to various attacks and killings by the CPM, which then forced Gent to declare an emergency in the country. On July 23, 1948, the CPM was banned.

Before the CPM was banned, Chin Peng took over the party leadership from secretary-general, Loi Tek, who disappeared with the party's savings in March 1947.

It was during this period that the communist terrorists, led by Chin Peng, resorted to guerilla tactics by operating in forest areas and launched their attacks on police stations, villages, as well as killing civilians and security members.

One of the attacks took place on Feb 23, 1950 at the Bukit Kepong police station, in Johor where 180 communist terrorists surrounded the police station, which was located on the Sungai Muar river banks. Seventeen security members were killed in the incident.

In December 1955, the Baling Talks took place at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Putera in Baling, Kedah between the government, led by Tunku Abdul Rahman as the then Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya, and Chin Peng, who wanted the government to allow the CPM to operate as a political party.

However, Chin Peng's request was turned down, but the government offered amnesty for its members if the CPM were to disband.

The communist terrorists continued to rebel until Malaya achieved its independence on Aug 31, 1957, and then withdrew into areas bordering Thailand.

The resurgence of the CPM and the Communist Party of Northern Kalimantan occurred between 1968-1989 in their attempts to topple the Malaysian government.

The attacks by the communists were centred in the town areas, including an incident at the Police Field Force (PFF) Central Brigade camp at Jalan Pekeliling (now Jalan Tun Razak) on Sept 3, 1975 which killed two police personnel and injured 10 others.

Two notorious killings by the communists during the period were that of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hashim who was shot in Kuala Lumpur on June 7, 1974, and that of the Perak police chief Tan Sri Khoo Chong Kong in Ipoh on Nov 13, 1975.

After 41 years of communist terrorism which claimed the lives of thousands of people, the CPM under Chin Peng finally laid down arms and the party was disbanded following the Haadyai Agreement which was signed on Dec 2, 1989 between the Malaysian and Thai governments and the CPM.

Former Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Michael Chen said Chin Peng had been given a chance to return, but he did not take it.

"For some reasons, he didn't come back. His attempt (to come back) through legal process has failed," he said, referring to a Federal Court decision which dismissed Chin Peng's appeal because he did not furnish documents of his citizenship.

Chen, who is also former MCA deputy president, said there was a possibility that the government, on humanitarian grounds, would consider allowing Chin Peng to return for purpose of visiting his father's grave in Malaysia.

Until now, Chin Peng's intention to return still received much protest, especially from the ex-servicemen associations.

"We do not want to reopen old wounds," said Ex-Policemen's Association of Malaysia (PBPM) president Ku Mohamad Khalid Tuan Ibrahim.

What is definite is that the issue on Chin Peng should not be looked in terms of racial aspects or narrow politics because during the communist insurgency, everyone became victims of the communist terrorists regardless of their skin colour.

Khoo, when asked whether Chin Peng should be allowed to return, said, "those who have the right to decide whether Chin Peng can return or not are relatives of those killed by the communists".

Another question raised is whether Chin Peng's return would benefit the country.

New Generation Insurgents Killing Teachers In Southern Thai

By D. Arul Rajoo BANGKOK, June 19 (Bernama) -- A new generation of separatist insurgents is believed to be responsible for the killing 115 teachers and wounding more than 100 others in the restive Southern Thai over the past five years, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Friday.

The insurgents, dubbed Patani Liberation Fighters or Pejuang Kemerdekaan Patani, are linked to the murder of five teachers in the south since the beginning of the new school term last month. They have also burned more than 200 schools in the same period.

The New York-based HRW said separatist insurgents should immediately cease their attacks on teachers and asked Thai authorities to hold accountable those responsible, in a lawful manner and take measures to bolster security at schools.

"In a sickening trend, separatist insurgents are increasingly attacking teachers, who they consider a symbol of government authority and Buddhist Thai culture. There is no excuse for such brutality," said Brad Adams, Asia director at HRW.

Among those killed were an eight-month pregnant teacher in Ja Nae district of Narathiwat province.

HRW said, after each attack, schools in affected areas were closed down for security reasons, adding that hundreds of teachers had requested transfers out of the region.

The attacks on teachers not only violated international law prohibitions against targeting civilians, but also threatened children's basic right to education, it said.

It said the government should take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of schools and teachers, but also expressed concern over vigilantism allegedly carried out by local security units in revenge for insurgent attacks on Buddhist Thai officials and civilians.

Over the past five years, there have been many reported assassinations of imams and Muslim religious teachers (ustadz) and attacks on mosques and Muslim schools (pondok).

HRW said, there have been no successful criminal investigations of these cases, leading many in the ethnic Malay Muslim population to conclude that the Thai government had been involved in a cover-up, making it clear to the perpetrators that they can act without fear of punishment.

"Separatist insurgents claim that abuses by the security forces justify their attacks, but the Thai government should not allow its troops to adopt the same logic.

"Any attempt to cover up the misconduct of security forces, or protect them from criminal responsibility, will further escalate a cycle of reprisal violence," said Adams, adding that it was time for the Thai government to deal with the root causes of the conflict.

More than 3,500 people died since separatist groups resumed their armed campaign in January 2004 to seek independence for the three Muslim-majority provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.

Gunmen Kill 10 at Mosque in Southern Thailand

Monday, June 08, 2009

PATTANI, Thailand — Gunmen opened fire on a mosque in southern Thailand during evening prayers, killing at least 10 people and wounding another 19 in the violence-plagued region, police said.

The attack Monday was one of the deadliest incidents since an Islamic separatist insurgency was launched in Thailand's three southernmost provinces in early 2004. More than 3,400 people have been killed in the violence, most victims of the insurgents.

Five or six men shot automatic rifles into the mosque in Narathiwat province's Joh-I-Rong district on Monday, said police Lt. Col. Somjai Singkliang.

However, the Web site of the newspaper The Nation cited Army spokesman Col. Parinya Chaidilok as saying there were only two attackers. The newspaper also reported that an 11th person had died en route to hospital.

Among those who died at the mosque was the imam, or prayer leader, said Somjai, who added that most of the 19 people wounded in the attack were in serious condition.

Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces, where virtually all the violence has occurred, are the only Muslim-majority provinces in predominantly Buddhist Thailand. Southern Muslims have long complained of discrimination, especially in education and job opportunities.

Last week two teachers, one eight months pregnant, were killed in the same province in an attack attributed to the insurgents. The deaths triggered intense anger among the area's Buddhist community.

Security forces sometimes blame the insurgents for attacks on Muslim individuals and institutions, claiming they mean to stir up hatred to boost their cause and trigger sectarian strife.

"They are trying to make it look like the attackers are the authorities, because Muslims would apparently not shoot inside a mosque. But it's impossible that it is the work of the military," The Nation quoted Army spokesman Parinya as saying about Monday's attack.

Very rarely does any group claim responsibility for any attacks on either community.

Earlier Monday in the same province, nine soldiers were wounded when the pickup truck in which they were traveling was ambushed, reported the state Thai News Agency.

It said a remote-controlled roadside bomb destroyed the vehicle, and attackers then opened fire on the solders before fleeing.

The attacks came on the same day Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was on an official visit to Malaysia to hold talks about the insurgency and economic cooperation.

Southern Thai Muslims are ethnic Malays, a background shared with most people just across the border in northern Malaysia, where there is sympathy for their plight.

Insurgent attacks — which include drive-by shootings and bombings — are believed intended to frighten Buddhist residents into leaving the area. They also target Muslims whom the rebels believe have collaborated with the government, including soldiers, police, informants and civilians.

The identity and precise goals of the insurgents have never been publicly declared. They pursue an ill-defined agenda that sometimes seems to call for a separate Islamic state.

A massive government counterinsurgency effort has slowed the pace of attacks but has shown little sign of ending the violence. Abhisit announced in March that 4,000 more soldiers and other security personnel would be deployed to the region, supplementing more than 60,000 — including local part-time forces — already there.

Burma’s Denial of Citizenship Rights to Rohingya

Western Arakan State’s isolation and underdevelopment historically meant that few Rohingya were registered at birth, or had documentation proving any citizenship, and this problem persists. Their lack of citizenship continues today. The Rohingya are officially an alien and illegal community, not listed as one of the 135 recognized “ethnic nationalities” in Burma, and thus the majority of them are not entitled to national identity cards.

Despite this, those who flee and are deported back to Burma are often imprisoned for leaving the country illegally. In their absence, their names are removed from Burma’s draconian household registration system that keeps track of people’s movements, and they are often handed stiff fines and jailed. This lack of legal status has provided cover to security forces to perpetrate routine abuses against them with impunity, particularly in western Burma, where the security forces are involved in pacification campaigns against the local population.

The SPDC did not publicly comment during the recent arrival of Rohingya on the coastlines of Thailand, India and Indonesia. Eventually, the military government announced that the Rohingya were not Burmese citizens and so the event had nothing to do with Burma, creating the false impression that the tragedy involved only Bangladeshis. At the time of the ASEAN summit in February, the SPDC announced that any “Bengali” who could prove that they were born in Burma could return.[22] The announcement was disingenuous because it is Burmese authorities themselves who have routinely denied Rohingya the necessary documentation to demonstrate their citizenship.[23]

Discrimination against the Rohingya, though far from universally endorsed, runs deep in Burma.[24] The SPDC’s denial of legal status to Rohingya has considerable public support among ethnic Arakanese and other Burmese, and among some opposition and exile groups. Many Rohingya groups are routinely excluded from multilateral exile movements and meetings.[25] Some Arakanese Buddhists, who have been neighbors of Rohingya for centuries, routinely deny that the Rohingya even exist, claiming instead that they are Bengalis residing in Burma.

The legal limbo in which the Rohingya have long lived in Burma—and the view that they should not be treated as full members of society–are at times married to outright racism. South Asians are derogatorily referred to as kala (foreigner) in Burma, but the Rohingya often are viewed as beneath even this level of disdain. This was starkly in evidence recently in a February 2009 letter from the Burmese Consul-General in Hong Kong, Ye Myint Aung, to his fellow heads of mission:

In reality, Rohingya are neither ‘Myanmar People’ nor Myanmar’s ethnic group. You will see in the photos that their complexion is ‘dark brown’. The complexion of Myanmar people is fair and soft, good looking as well… They are as ugly as ogres.

Proclamations of the outsider status of the Rohingya also take the form of unsubstantiated assertions that the Rohingya are not loyal to Burma and pose a serious threat to Burma’s national security. While officials periodically raise such specters, history tells a different story.

Since Burma’s independence, the majority of Rohingya have attempted to live quiet lives and enjoy the same rights as other Burmese citizens. While some Rohingya have taken up arms, they have never posed a serious threat to Burma’s territorial integrity. A short-lived Mujahid rebellion in the early 1950s in Arakan failed to attract widespread Rohingya support.

Contemporary Rohingya armed resistance is small and militarily insignificant, as political and armed resistance groups are splintered and constantly bickering. Small numbers of Rohingya men who have reportedly traveled to the Middle East for terrorism training have evidently not returned with any jihadist designs. There has never been a Muslim-connected terrorism incident in Burma.

Since the early 1990s, the militarization of western Burma has been dramatic, with a rise in the number of army battalions from 3 to 43, the biggest increase in the country.[28]The Burmese army uses the local population to maintain its presence, stealing food, appropriating land, and forcing civilians to build camps, excavate roads, and carry supplies.

The military-buildup has occurred in parallel with the need to safeguard massive infrastructure projects. In December 2008, the Chinese energy company PetroChina signed a 30-year lease with the Burmese to buy natural gas off the coast of western Arakan State, in the Shwe Gas field; the consortium involves Indian, Thai, South Korean, Chinese and Burmese interests. The gas will be transported across Burma to Yunnan province in China by pipeline, with a second pipeline running beside it that will transport crude oil from the Middle East.

Although the majority of Rohingya communities are northwest of these planned pipeline routes, the increased troop presence has adversely impacted their already dismal existence.

Bulgarian Muslims face oppression era-religious bans

Muslims face oppression era-religious bans in Bulgaria that entered EU, pledging more freedoms and rights to its citizens.

Thursday, 26 March 2009 17:06

Muslims face oppression era-religious bans in Bulgaria that entered European Union on 1 January 2007, pledging more freedoms and rights to its citizens.

Bulgaria's Socialist-led government approved a draft bill on Thursday banning Muslim headscarves from schools.

The bill still needs approval from parliament.

Bulgaria, where Muslims account for about 12 percent of the 7.6 million population and some 80 percent are Orthodox Christians, so far did not have such a ban.

The office of the Muslim Chief Mufti in Bulgaria said the ban was wrong.

"We express our disagreement and bitterness with this decision. It completely damages the rights as well as the responsibilities of Muslim women," Hussein Hafazov of the Chief Mufti office told Reuters.

Last week, the government lunched an investigation into a local mayor and an Islamic studies teacher over Islam teaching.

The Chief Mufti expressed concern over increasing community tensions.

He said there had been arson attacks on mosques and other Muslim buildings and girls had already been forbidden from wearing the traditional Muslim headscarf in some schools.

"Komshuluk"

Bulgaria is the only European Union member where Muslims are a centuries-old community, mostly ethnic Turkish descendants of the Ottoman State's reach into Europe, they live beside Christians in a culture known as "komshuluk," or neighbourly relations.

A assimilation drive launched by late communist dictator Todor Zhivkov to assimilate Muslims culminated with a campaign to force them to change their names to Bulgarian and the exodus of some 300,000 Muslims to neighbouring Turkey in 1989.

According to Amnesty International, at least 100 Muslims died in his four-month campaign to force them to change their names to Bulgarian, which banned the Turkish language in public. It also banned the wearing of headscarves and other Islamic customs such as circumcision and funeral rights.

When Bulgaria opened its border with Turkey in 1989, more than 300,000 Muslims left, although some later returned.

Besides ethnic Turks, Bulgarian Muslims also include 300,000 Roma Gypsies and Pomaks -- Europeans who converted to Islam under the Ottomans.

This ban comes in a time that all communist-era bans have been lifted in the country and the ethnic-Turkish MRF party has become a powerful political force, participating in the governments.

"Halt to mosque construction"

In a separate case, the Muslim community in the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Burgas said it would file a complaint with the EU institutions over a city council halt of a mosque construction according to Bulgarian media reports.

Last week, the Burgas City Council voted against its own decision from December 2008, which allocated a plot in the Meden Rudnik ("Copper Mine") quarter for the construction of a new mosque.

Anti-mosque move came from the GERB party, whose informal leader is the Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov with the support of the extreme right and nationalist Ataka ("Attack") party.

Greetings,

Does anyone have a theory about why Muslims are persecuted so much around the world?

What could be the solution? We all have to get along somehow.

It is probably because as much of the world moves towards secularism and separation of church and state (after their bad experiences with the Pope and etc) and the growing notion that science somehow challenges religion is completely at odds with Islam.

Our system of government and our moral code represent a direct clash with the interests of most of the major powers in the world. To top it all off, we are far more unified in culture, language, and action than people like the commies ever were. And look how afraid the world is of them.

This is just speculation spawned from procrastination so.... :?

The larger Cambodian Market is on the left side of this road, you just have to turn left at this road... the other Cambodian market is at the parking lot, and the parking lot is beside the AmBank building.

Memoir of the Bukit Kepong Event and Chin Peng's Brutality

Saying that Chin Peng who is the leader of Malayan Communist Party leader as an independence figure is equal to saying that Pol Pot of Cambodia as an independence hero. Why is that so? Because he is the head of Communist Party in Malaya (former Malaysia) who had slaughtered Muslim Malays who are the natives in Malaya and other ethnics who weren't agree with his plan on subduing Malaya and establishing Malayan Communist Republic the same as what happened in Cambodia. But the event in Malaya happened earlier than in Cambodia.

Malayan Communist Party is a classic effort of Chinese embracing Communism ideology in order to hijack Malaya which had been the homeland of Muslims from the natives for thousand of years. The efforts of certain parties to bring Chin Peng back to Malaysia as an Independence hero is viewed as an evil effort, insolent, and insulting native Muslims. Chin Peng is among the brutal leaders in Malayan Communist Party. He had massacred the family of security officers who are Muslims in Bukit Kepong. In the event of 23rd Feb 1950, while Chin Peng was a leader in the Communist Party, about 180 Communist-Terrorists or bandits complete with automatic fire-arms surrounding them, killing and burning them alive in their houses in Bukit Kepong.

Bukit Kepong Incident was an armed encounter which took place on February 23, 1950 between the police and the Malayan Communists in pre-independence Malaya. This conflict took place in an area surrounding the Bukit Kepong police station in Bukit Kepong. The wooden station was located on the river banks of the Muar River, about 59km from Muar town, Johor. The incident started just before dawn with the Communists launching a guerilla assault on the police station. It ended in a bloody massacre with the aggressors killing almost all of the police officers stationed there. When they began the siege, the attackers strongly believed that they would be able to defeat the policemen and gained control of the police station within a short span of time. This is due to several factors in their favour: their arms and numerical superiority and the relative isolation of the station. The battle began at about 4:15 am. According to eyewitness accounts, there were about 200 Communists attacking, led by Muhammad Indera, a Malay Communist. Despite the odds, the policemen led by Allahyarham Sgt. Jamil Mohd Shah, refused to surrender, although numerous calls by the communists for them to lay down arms were made. Several officers were killed as the shooting continued and two wives of the defending officers took up arms when they discovered that their husbands fell in battle. [1] Desperate and alarmed at the defenders’ tenacity, the Communists captured one of the officers’ wives and threatened her at gunpoint to urge the policemen to surrender. The defenders replied that they would never surrender and continued fighting. Another wife of the officers and her daughter were also forced to do the same. Their refusal then resulted in their execution. In the final hours of the fierce battle, the Communists set fire to the officers’ barracks and station. Two women and their children were burnt to death in the married quarters. At that point only 3 policemen plus a village guard were still alive. They rushed out from the burning station, unable to withstand the heat. They then assaulted the Communists position, killing at least 3 of them. Only about five hours after the first shot was fired did the communists manage to break their defences and set the place ablaze. They then retreated into the jungle, leaving a trail of destruction and bloodshed. 14 policemen, 4 village guards, 3 auxiliary policemen, wife of Abu Bakar Daud (one of the surviving policemen) and three of their children were killed in the incident. The total number of deaths is 25. Those who survived the bloody encounter are 4 policemen and 9 family members including their wives and children.
They had shot the people and burning them alive in their house. The corpses of the Muslim Malay security Officers who were brutally killed by the followers of Chin Peng had been founded everywhere at the place. Before burning the houses of the people, Chin Peng had seized the wives and the children of the security officers and oredering the officers who held in their forts to surrender. When they refused, the Communists killed their wives. In the end of the battle, the houses of the officers, their wives, and children were burnt alive. If anyone saying that Chin Peng is an Independence Hero, that might be his followers or his grandchildren. The real Independence Hero are those Security Officers' Family who had sacrificed their life to protect the village and the life of other villagers and later were killed by La3natulla Communist.

Malayan Communist Party is among the effort of Chinese with Communism Ideology to hijack Malaya from the natives that had already been Muslims since 8th C if the History had been intertwined with Southern Thailand. Those Communist Chinese had been brought by British Imperial Power and they escaped the famine in China. After that, they had tried their luck to hijack Malaya through guerilla war fighting the British and if they succeed, Malaya wil surely being administrated under Communist Chinese administration. It should be understood that not all Chinese favoring Communism because in the same time Guomindang party too were hacing the war with Mao Tze Tung in order to gain influence in China. Guomindang party is the party of Chinese with nationalism view. They had good base in Taiwan which is now still being claimed by China. Alhamdulillah, with the courage of Muslims in facing the Chinese Communists, Malaya remain as the country of Muslims.

Seeing that Muslim Malays really hate the Chinese with Communism ideology that they regard as Kafr, the Malayan Communist Party then tried using another tactic which is indoctrinating Malays as the party member. Some of them who were deceived are like Rashid Maidin, Dollah CD, and Shamsiah Fakeeh. Even that still can't deceive Muslims due to the influence of Pondok (Madrasah Institution). That had raised the enmity of Communists toward the ulamas and imams.

Malayan Communist Party keep opposing the British and killing many Muslim Malays who were regarded as the assistants of British. Coincidently, British had recruited many Muslim Malays in security force to fight Communists. As for Muslim Malays, holding the guns to shoot Communists is an honor for them as they want to defend their faith, life, and their lands.

When the war waged, Malayan Communist Party once again changing their tactic. They tried to be in favor with British in order to hijack Malaya from native Muslims. This is due to the changing in the pact between British-American with Russian Communist. Communist Terrorists received training and weapons supplies from British which later had been used to hijack Malaya after Japanese surrendered. Communists were not really in war with Japanese. Chinese Communists were just deceiving British to get modern weapon supplies. Japanese Imperialists too never assume them as a threat for their invasion which lasted for 3 years and 8 months.

After the Japs moved out from Malaya, the Chinese Communist Terrorists raised out from the jungle and entering cities and villages. They killed and tortured natives who had been assumed as helping the British. This is the first time Muslim Malays seeing how their neighbor who worked as cleaners in the day suddenly changed to a general in Communist army. They killed the Ulamas and the Ulamas Revolt against Communism happened everywhere in Malaya. The famous revolt was leaded by Kiyahi Salleh (Imam Salleh) in Batu Pahat. Kiyahi Salleh and his followers had declared Jihad to drive the Laknatullah Communist out with only parangs and spears. Muslims Malays had a proverb to describe an evil person. It is "Three Stars" or Samsing. Three Stars is the badge of Malayan Communist Party (MPAJA).

Communists were forced to enter jungle back when British came back in 1948 and emergency being declared. Many Muslims from Malay ethnics including women joined the security force in order to defend themselves from Communist attacks in the villages.

Due to that Muslim Malays are not easy being deceived by Communists and the opposition that they had shown toward Communists, Chin Peng had to change his tactic again which is a peace treaty. Thus, the Peace Treaty Discussion in Baling happened but it failed to achieve any goal. Chin Peng once again entering the jungle and Malay Communists executed the plan to hijack Malaya from Muslims. In 1968, the Communist Terrorists combining themselves among each other and trying for the second time hijacking Malaya. They used brutal tactics to scared the people and security forces but Muslims still with the spirit in defending Islam.

Once, a security force member being slaughtered after an ambush with knives like a cow being peeled its skin in Grik, Lenggong around 1974. They failed for the second time in the hijack plan. They have to run to Thailand and Betong which is an area in the border of Malaysia-Thai.

Muslims of South Thai too helped by chasing them away from Betong. Finally Chin Peng had agreed to put down their weapon with high reward after a discussion. However, till now many of Chin Peng's followers in Malaysia and his grandchildren want him to return back to Malaysia (Malaya) to hijack it again. Insha-Allah, Muslims will always be blessed if we follow the path of G-d and they will never succeed forever.

The Killings, Brutality, and Raping of Muslims in Southern Thai

Following is the first report based from the observation and information searching based from the brutal cases, that we had captured from Patani, Yala, and Narathiwat with the dates (7th April - 11th April 2009). Insha-Allah in the nearer time, brother Amir and I will finish a complete document through interviews and after visiting the victims family that we had done. Any suggestion and assistance to help Muslims of South Thai is welcomed.

First notes: Killing, Brutality, Rape, Cases that Happened in Southern Thailand.

Green birds flying,
The wine rivers peacefully flowing,
Angels are smiling,
Yaqut and Marjan glowing and shining,
The smell of perfumes filling the spaces,
At the door of the paradise of Patani Darus Salam.

Dato, Patani Darus Salam
11th April 2009

1st Case: Abdul Aziz Kongstian is a handicapped man aged 28 had received a bad luck in Southern Thai. His hand is handicapped and he was brutally shoot dead by the soldier in his village. The tragedy began when a group of soldiers entering the kindergarden called Masjid Nurul Taqwa Kindergarden during an annual sport activity. The reason why the soldier broke into the kindergarden is that they want to seize a male teacher who taught in the kindergarden as he was accused as a Terrorist. While the haywire is in the air and everybody was running, a sound of fire-arm being heard and scaring the villagers. After the incident a handicapped young man who is Abdul Aziz was founded behind the mosque died. The soldier side had made a statement that Abdul Aziz was shot dead because the soldiers saying that he tried to attack them, so they have to defend themselves. Abdul Aziz is a handicapped young man and his hand can't even hold anything was accused as holding a gun trying to shoot the soldiers in the distance of 5 meters. So, to defend themselves, Abdul Aziz was shoot dead in the distance of 5 metres.

2nd Case: Imam Jaafar who was 56 years old was seized by the soldier in Camp 36th. He was tortured and badly hit in the soldier prison camp. This had made his ribs broken and he died in the camp. He was accused as a terrorist who stirs the bad situation in Southern Thailand.

Case 3rd: Norhayati, a young Muslim girl aged 21 was raped in her house by 4 persons believed as soldiers. They raped her to her death. Her sister saw it with her own eyes. Her father and her brothers too were shot dead by those people. Post-Mortem done by the Central Government shown that she wasn't raped. They just reported that she just died an extraordinary death.

The events are among 14 events that we can get to hear with our own ears and seen with the victims of the tyranny in Southern Thai. And the 14 events are among tiny little events from thousands of events that tragically happened in Southern Thai. Imams being shoot dead when walking out of the masjid, a family including a baby shoot dead, youngster shoot dead, and many other events of killings in Southern Thailand. They were killed with various reasons and nonsense slanders. In the same time, Islamic educational institution like pondok (madrasah) too were forced to be closed by Central Government. Masjid Institutions were heavily suppressed and the Imams were seized and tormented.

From January of 2457 BE - October 2551 BE/ January 2005 - October 2008, there are about 3014 children lost their parents and 1605 being single mothers after their husbands died. While in 5 years, there are about 2950 people died due to the Southern Thai conflict. In the prison, the people seized were tortured as they are animals. One of the case of torture is about brother Rahayu. He is a friend of Imam Jaafar and he was found dead with severe injuries in the prison. His fingers were tusked with needles. The needles sized one inches too being tusked under his eye-lids. Other needles being tusked at his genital.

May Allah gives us strength and preserverance to defend ourselves. Insha-Allah, other complete reports will follow.

A Malaysian Muslim perspective about the tyranny on Muslim. I had translated his view into English so that we can see what had happened to Muslims in certain places.

The death of Michael Jackson, Marwa, and Muslims in Xinjiang
by Zaharuddin Abd Rahman
www.zaharuddin.net

It seems that the medias are so busy getting profits from the death of Michael Jackson (MJ). How is that not, that more than 2 billion people were attracted to attend the memorial ceremony in Los Angeles. The program too was watched by millions of Muslims who still in search of whether he is a Muslim or not while they can't see any clear signs of MJ becomes a Muslim.

The stories of MJ death had grabbed media's huge coverage and still with magnetic power in attracting the readers and the fans to seek it worldwide. Media as usual competing with each other to find profit from the death and the life of some one. Recently, there is a new news revealed by MJ sister saying that he was murdered through a conspiracy among individuals around him.

MUSLIMA MARWA EL-SHERBINI WAS MURDERED IN GERMANY

In the same time, we had been more than surprised and angry upon hearing the news about Marwa el-Sherbini who was a pharmacist being murdered in Germany. The hapless murderer whose name is Alex W. a jobless person and a supporter of pro-NAZI party originated from Russia founded guilty after he had insulted and talking obscene words to Dr. Marwa in front of the public last November. The hapless guy had yelled to her with words such as "Terrorist" and "Islamist *****" while they were in Dresden park. At that time, Marwa had asked the permission to place her child in the swing at the park, but the hapless narrow-minded racist refused for permission on public facilities and after that a quarreling happened.

The hapless man then was dragged to the Court and he was fined with EU 780. However the hapless man had made an appeal that made him seeing Marwa again in the Court. With a kinfe in his hand, he attacked Marwa who was three month pregnant. She was stabbed 18 times in the Court in front of the Judge!

The nonsense thing about this is that, how can the racist guy managed and was permitted to bring the knife into the Court??? How could he stabbed Marwa without being interrupted or any immediate help from the guards and people around her in the Court??? The husband of Marwa rushed to the front to help his wife but sadly he had forgotten that they are in the "battle field." The husband was shot dead while trying to help his wife, while the hapless guy being left alive. Police used cheap reason when saying that they had "mistook" him as the murderer. The Syeikh of al-Azhar, Syeikh Muhammad Tanthawy had urged Germany to punished the murderer with severe punishment but so far we are not clear how serious the Court acted on the murderer.

It should be reasonable for Muslim student associations if they could be together with other Muslims in their places in sending memorandum to urge Germany punishing the racist murderer with severe sentence!

Too bad that this news is not being spread widely and being closed by Western media especially BBC. No sounds at all about the news, while the Court in UAE which had sentenced two British for organizing Open Sex Party in the beach being spread widely and heavily criticized as the act of Court punishing them is an evil act.

However, the story about a pregnant Muslim woman being stabbed in the Court in front of a Judge in a modern country is not taken seriously. This had brought me to an experience when I visited few districts in Germany. I didin't know that the real facet of the country is ugly. Specially to Russians where they are notorious with Brutal Racist Acts and others. To Malaysian and Muslim students in Germany, I urge you to take care of yoursleves and be careful wherever you are.

TURKESTAN (XINJIANG)

Beside the news in Germany, we also have long sigh when reading the news about the massacring in Southern Thailand and the tyranny toward Muslims in Urumqi. All of the information should get the attention of the leaders in Muslim countries. Due to the bloody riots in Urumqi, the government of Turkey had trying to execute their responsibility where the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan openly criticizing China and also called for a boycott for the products from China. Turkey too had offered Visa to the leaders of Turkestan Muslim community in exile such as Rebiya Kadeer. We still waiting what is the act of the leaders in our countries???

In the new event in Turkestan, it is estimated that around 1000 and 3000 protesters assembled in Citizen Square. They protested over the death of the workers in toys factory in Guangdong in a fight between Muslim Uighurs and Han ethnic las 25th June.

The number of deaths in the fights between Han ethnic and Muslim Uighur increased to 184 people. According to bias BBC report, the Hans were killed more than Muslims and it is provoked with a report that half of those killed are women. While other sources said that the total death among Muslims had not been revealed.

The bad situation changed little by little and sooner seems to be an ethnic cleansing act. The situation had forced Muslims to leave their area and fled the area to avoid from being hurt or killed. The Han ethnic marched on the road early this week while holding knives, axes, cutting meat knives, and other hand-made weapons to seek revenge on Uighurs in Uighurs province and area.

It was reported that the journalists had witnessed the Han thugs attacking Uighurs in two separate attacks but Muslim Uighurs had claimed that many other attacks happened even with the presence of security force. Police and the army still influxing the city.

OPPRESSION IS THE SOURCE OF MUSLIM UIGHUR UNSATISFACTION

Most of the Muslim Uighurs feel so dissappointed with the Government's treatment who always keeping the interest of Han ethnic as their priority. Han ethnic had controlled the economy of Turkestan and also having the opportunity to expand Han traditional culture. Beside that. masajid were ordered to be closed.

Muslim in Turkestan are the natives and they are the majority people in Turkestan or Xinjiang, however they are treated as second class citizen in their own land. Not only religiously oppressed, they too were facing the assimilation and dominion of China on them. Most of the business being controlled by Han ethnic and the houses of Uighur were destroyed to give way to Han migration in Turkestan. Most of the job opportunities being given to Han ethnic. More sadly, the culture of Uighurs with Islamic influence seems to be neglected and they slowly became minority who lodged in their own land while the fact is in the opposite.

Uighurs too claimed that a huge amount of Government principles are bias and not just to them in order to give places to Han ethnic influxing the region. This could bring them into dangerous situation where ethnic tense will happen and thus spreading crisis.

Through humanity perspective, the oppression like this should not happen to anyone. The Uighurs and other Muslims only want justice and their rights being returned. However, their cries being neglected without any attention from the government of China. The authority of China only put the blame on Muslim Uighurs in every riot that happened. On the other hand they never gave any freedom to the natives of Turkestan. Uighur is oppressed from receiving the benefits from natural sources in their region such as petroleum, natural gas, and 121 kind of minerals while 148 kind of minerals being extracted by the government of China for their own benefit. Communist regime of China too had burned books written by local Muslim authors, harrassing mosques, and trying to espel Islam from the vast and rich reagion since cultural revolution.

CONCLUSION

We should be more aware with few dark events and tyranny toward Muslims. The oppression over Muslims happened everywhere. We who live in in UK too feel the heat of Racism that had been practiced by some British. A Muslim newspaper in UK had reported that more than 50% of Muslim students in the school through out the country experienced harrasment and insulted by the people there with racist idioms showing hatred to Muslims.

My child too had experienced that when we are in Wales and also in Leicester. The veil worn by my daughter had been the object of insult by a 5 years old boy. He called her a "chicken." The windows at my friends house too had been casted rocks by few school children, also the back window of my MPV Honda broken by the youths due to Racist attitude. Read about it for more info about Islamophobia in West.

If racism is counted as logic in Western countries, but too bad it also happened in Arab countries who feel themsleves as superior than non-Arabs. Malaysian students who studied there in Jordan, Egypt, and other countries too experienced being ridiculed. Even some Ulamas from Arab countries too still clinging to racism. If that too happened in Muslim countries, I'm not surprised if it happened in non-Muslim countries too.

We should abandon racism as it is not a good quality. Islam never prevent us from loving our lands and tribes, but the love toward Allah, Rasul, and the efforts on His path should be the priority. Allah (SWT) says in Surah at-Taubah verse 24:

Meaning: "If your fathers, children, brothers, wives, family members, wealthy that you gained, business that you afraid of loss, and the houses which are the places to live are the things that you love, the love toward Allah and His Rasul, and the Efforts on His path should you bring forth, and wait to the Judgment of Allah and when He brings His decision!" And Allah never gives His guidance to the Fasik.

Finally, let us pray to G-d that those who were sacrificed in Turkestan (Xinjiang) and Marwa being granted forgiveness and rewarded with good rewards by Allah SWT. Also to the Muslims around the world who are oppressed since our prophet time till today.

Greetings and peace be with you czgibson;

If we only seek justice for people who are the same as us then justice does not seem to be served. If we are truthfully concerned about genocide and we feel horrified by human suffering and death on a large scale, then maybe we should look at poverty.

Thirty thousand people die needlessly every day from grinding poverty and preventable diseases. These people are from all walks of life, Muslim, atheist, Christians, Hindu, they are just desperately poor people.

About a billion people live on less than a dollar a day.

Justice seems served in a far greater way when we search for solutions for people who are different to us.

In the spirit of praying for justice for all people

WASHINGTON (July 12) - President Barack Obama has ordered his national security team to investigate reports that U.S. allies were responsible for the deaths of as many as 2,000 Taliban prisoners of war during the opening days of the war in Afghanistan.
Obama told CNN in an interview that aired Sunday that he doesn't know what how the U.S.-allied Northern Alliance behaved in November 2001, but he wants a full accounting before deciding how to move forward.

"I think that, you know, there are responsibilities that all nations have even in war," Obama said during an interview at the end of a six-day trip to Russia, Italy and Ghana.
"And if it appears that our conduct in some way supported violations of the laws of war, then I think that, you know, we have to know about that."
The president's comments seem to reverse officials' statements from Friday, when they said they had no grounds to investigate the 2001 deaths of Taliban prisoners of war who human rights groups allege were killed by U.S.-backed forces.
Reacting to the interview, Physicians for Human Rights hailed Obama's decision.
"President Obama is right to say that U.S. and Afghan violations of the laws of war must be investigated," said Nathaniel Raymond, a Physicians for Human Rights researcher. "If the Obama administration finds that criminal wrongdoing occurred in this case, those responsible — whether American or Afghan officials — must be prosecuted."

But Obama's direction — discussed as he toured a former slave castle on Ghana's coast — does not guarantee action.
"We'll probably make a decision in terms of how to approach it once we have all the facts gathered up," Obama said.
The mass deaths were brought up anew Friday in a report by The New York Times. It quoted government and human rights officials accusing the Bush administration of failing to investigate the executions of hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of prisoners.
U.S. officials said Friday they did not have legal grounds to investigate the deaths because only foreigners were involved and the alleged killings occurred in a foreign country.
The Times pointed to U.S. military and CIA ties to Afghan Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, accused by human rights groups of ordering the killings. The newspaper said the Defense Department and FBI never fully investigated the incident.
The allegations date back to November 2001, when as many as 2,000 Taliban prisoners died in transit after surrendering during one of the regime's last stands, according to a State Department report from 2002.
Witnesses have claimed that forces with the U.S.-allied Northern Alliance placed the prisoners in sealed cargo containers over the two-day voyage to Sheberghan Prison, suffocating them and then burying them en masse, using bulldozers to move the bodies, according to the State Department report. Some Northern Alliance soldiers have said that some of their troops opened fire on the containers, killing those within.
Dostum, the Northern Alliance general who is accused of overseeing the atrocities, has previously denied the allegations. He was suspended from his military post last year on suspicion of threatening a political rival, but Afghan President Hamid Karzai recently rehired him.

NEVER ENDING SUFFERINGS OF RAUHINGYAS

http://islamhadhari.net/
By Editor • April 13, 2009

Rauhingyas now are in desperate state. They are labeled as foreigners and unwanted in their own country or land which is in Arakan, Myanmar. Everyday, they are oppressed and their rights are denied by the Junta of Myanmar. Many of them are forced to leave their lands in Arakan in order to protect themselves from being killed and to save their faith.

Some of them are stranded in Bangladesh, India, Thailand, and Malaysia. Let us hear the news about their fate. Zain Abdul Ghani interviewing brother Abdul Ghani Abdul Rahman, the vice president of Rauhingya Information Center (PPR) in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, Malaysia on 27th March 2009.

What is your role in PPR in Kuala Lumpur? Who is actually the leader?

I am trusted as the vice president while the president is Haji Mubarak Abu Bashar.

What is the name of the place where you were originated in Arakan before it is absorbed into Myanmar?

I was born in Mrauk-U, in the district of Montagung in Arakan. It is now in Myanmar.

Can you tell us what is the historical background of Myanmar?

Burma (Myanmar) gained Independence from British in January 4th 1948. Before colonized by British, my homeland, which is Arakan is a kingdom with Muslim kings such as Sulaiman Shah (Narameklah), Zafar Shah, and Hussein Shah. They are among those who ruled before British came in 1824. When British came, our kingdom which is Arakan was included into Burma and remains so till today. Before that, we in Arakan lived peacefully with Buddhists known as Rakhaine. The sufferings of Rauhingya began since 1978 due to the brutality of Burmese Junta. As the implication, few hundred thousands of us have to seek refuge in neighboring countries and most of us living in poor conditions. Among the refugees too, some had seek refuge in Bangladesh near the border of Burma while half others crossing the border of Burma to India. Rauhingyas facing famine, and diseases in refugee camps. In the border of China-Burma, Rauhingya women were selled as hookers.

What can you bring to us as a prove on the existance of Rauhingya in Myanmar? For example artifacts or masjids?

We are the Muslim community who had lived in Western Myanmar fow hundred years. History proved our existance. We also have a kingdom with kings, also we have our own currency and our own national flag. Other proves such as mosques in Arakan. They are not functioning anymore and many of them had been destructed. In my village, Mrauk-U, there are two Jami mosques and they are quite famous. They are Masjid Sandhi Khan and Masjid Musa and they were destructed when all of the Muslims were transfered to other area.

How many Rauhingyas still living in Arakan today?

It is about 1.5 million. Those who seek refuge in Malaysia mostly live in Klang Valley and few other states.

Why the Junta do not like Rauhingyas?

A matter that they hate the most about us is that we are Rauhingyas and Muslims. They are trying to gradually exterminate us. Since 1990's the regime of Myanmar leaded by General Than Shwe had took off the citizenship of Rauhingyas who live in Arakan. We are syatematically being denied as rightfully citizens of Myanmar. In the same time, there many evil acts and inhuman acts executed on Rauhingyas.

As what had happened in Bosnia in 1993?

Yes, we were denied the right to visit our relatives dwelling in other villages, our mosques were destructed, our children were denied from entering educational institution and many other non-sensical rules imposed on us. We are pre-conditioned to get permission before marrying, and the permission only validated after few years. Our movement is limited. We need permission to stop by at other villages, and our rights for facilities of education and medical treatment too are denied. As "foreigners," we aren't allowed to work as teachers, doctors, and giving our service to community. In Rauhingya Provinces, the teachers are the Rakhine Buddhists. Myanmar Junta had prevented us from receiving education that should been received by every citizens. Raping and force works happens in Arakan and they also threatened us. The army asking money from us and if we refuse to pay, we will be seized and tormented. Rauhingyas too received oppression in practising their religion. It is impossible for them to get any permission to repair or even to build mosque in their region. For the past three years, 12 mosques in Northern Arakan were destructed and the biggest destruction happened in 2006. Since 1962, there is no new mosque build and religious preachers were imprisoned for the guilty of repairing their mosque.

Can you tell us more about Rauhingya ethnic?

We live in Arakan since before British colonized Burma in 1824. We have our own kings or sultans and for your information, I'm a descendent of Parin dynasty of Arakan. As what had been mentioned earlier, Arakan is actually an independent kingdom and a country on its own. After we gain the independence, many things changed. Once upon a time, we have Rauhingya figures in Central stage, such as Bo Maung (a Muslim). He is a Rauhingya and at that time he was appointed the representative of Rauhingyas by the king of Burma.

What is your hope as a representative of Rauhingya Information Center on Malaysian government?

We hope that Malaysian government continue supporting us and supporting the UN (UNHCR) to immediatelt processing 3000 more applications for refugee pass in Malaysia. We, the Rauhingyas in Malaysia hope that the ASEAN summit conference in Bali, Indonesia on 14-15 April will bring a positive decision. I believe that the foreign minister of Myanmar (a general) will be present and they will certainly accuse the representatives who symphatized the Rauhingyas. As a representative of Muslim Rauhingyas, I had met the PM of Malaysia and also hope that the new leaders will continue supporting us. We had circulated the pamphlet about our history to the government of Indonesia and informing the Indonesian leaders about our status back in Myanmar. We also have the proves that we were once recognized in Myanmar and being parliamentary members of Myanmar around 1962. Four of our parliamentary members are Sultan Mahmud, Abdul Ghafar, Abul Bashar, Muhammad Sultan, and Shamsul Anwarul Haq. Sadly, Shamsul Anwarul Haq now is imprisoned and he is punished with imprisonment for 45 years. He is found guilty because Muslim can't join any political chess in Myanmar.

How many houses of Rauhingyas being destructed?

What I know is that, the houses in five villages around Kawalon (Mondrapronge), Pungnamrong, Alizay, Aungdine, and Nyoungbongziy were all destructed. All of the villages inhabited by Rauhingyas were transferred and we are forced to live in Buddhist villages in Mrauk-U province. Our lands were looted and given to Burmese who are the Buddhists. Our mosques were destructed.

Is there any struggle with the regime?

Yes, there are struggles between us and the regime. Some of us who opposed them or objecting them were cut-off their tongue with scissors. We are prohibited from entering the mosque, we can't wear the attire that showing we are Muslims. They prohibited us from keeping the sunnah such as having beard or covering our heads with kufiah.

Back to Rauhingya refugees, there is a report that there are about 18, 000 of them here in this country...??

In Pulau Pinang, there are about 3000 of Rauhingya, in Perlis 2000, Johore 1, 600, Malacca 300, Negeri Sembilan 350, in Pahang 1, 100, and in Kelantan there are about 200 people. The rest living in Klang Valley.

What is the hope of Rauhingyas who remain in Arakan?

They have no hope, they just wait for the final day when G-d destroy the Universe for the dooms day. Even, we who are the refugees here too have nothing to be done. We hold the UNHCR card and nobody wants to accept us as employees. If there are those wo are working in your country, they still have to move elsewhere so it is not easy to consistently work. If we can get the job and systematically doing jobs, maybe we can send some money to our relatives in Arakan. However, I still find ourselves as lucky. We can easily move anywhere with UNHCR card. Say if I'm hungry, I still can move to the restaurant searching and buying for food in any grocery shop here. The Rauhingyas in Arakan are still restricted from moving. They still can't move out from their village to buy food even if they have the money in their hand, this matter saddened my heart. About the people from five villages in the province where I'm originated from, I'm not certain where they are now. I've only heard the news that many of them died in refugee camps near Bangladesh border. The camps there are in poor condition without clean water supply. They only get water source from sea, and it's not suitable for consumption. The facilities there in Bangladesh too are in poor condition. During night, they said that villains will attack them. Many of their daughters being raped and refugees are murdered by villains.

Recently I had heard that Rauhingya refugees were chased away to the sea by Thailand without any food supply. They were left in the middle of the sea by Thailand authority until being saved by Indonesian government in Acheh maritme area. Those are among the difficulties faced by Rauhingyas. In our own country, we aren't recognized as citizen, while abroad we aren't favored by certain countries. I would like to thank your country for accepting us.

Back to Malaysia, do you have any suggestion to develop Rauhingya community?

As for now, we had become the object of trading. For example, on what I regret the most, the schools for Rauhingya refugees (there are five of them) too received assiatance from Buddhist association. So I wonder that where is the assistance from Muslim associations that had come before? I'm so sad that the Buddhist association who provided helps had imposed few conditions such as: "we don't have any teachers to teach Arabic, we only can give assistance in teaching, Science, Maths, English, and Malay." While we are Muslims and Arabic is actually crucial and related to our religious studies. That's why that I wonder why isn't there any help from Muslim association or council. I also would like to express my dissatisfaction toward charity boards including non-Muslim charity board who took the opportunity using Rauhingya's name to get donation and organizing certain programs to gain benefit by using us.

What is your hope on our government for the benefit of Rauhingyas in Malaysia?

Rauhingyas are divided into 9 sub-ethnics. Any assistance should only coming through the legal councils for the sake of Muslim Rauhingya refugee community. I still remember that during our registration process around 2003-2005, I'm among the person appointed by the UN to execute the job. But after the process, the UN office is transferred to Gombak and many things happened. Many groups too aren't satisfied with the process.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the other hand, the UN wants Malaysia accepting all refugees from various countries, estimated around 28,000 people. Malaysia can't accept all of those refugees and it would be a burden toward her citizens. Rauhingyas are accepted because they are "stateless" and not recognized by their own country. They integrated well with native Muslims, easily learning Malay language due to Islamic background, and the most important thing is they have no criminal record.

Actually you have to check Hindu-Buddhist sources when you want to determine their ethnicity. Even we, other SEAns too can trace our ethnicity from ancient India sources. Those Rauhingyas are the mix of native negritos and the mughal soldiers from East India. They are just the same people with Rakhine (Buddhist), like Malay and Orang Siam of South Thailand.

There are so many theories about the origin of the Malays:

1) The official one: descendants of Deutero-Malays migrated from Yunnan province in China.

2) Descendants of Indians mixed Chinese.

3) Descendants of Thais who are converted to Islam.

4) Descendants of Alexander the Great (I think this is applicable to those with royal blood)

5) Descendants of Ketura, the third wife of Prophet Abraham.

Look like Bangladeshis ?. Rohingyas are Bangladeshis.

Myanmar govt (and people) oppress them because Rohingyas are catagorized as 'people from other place', not Burmese/Myanmarese.

And Rohingyas's homeland is in western/Northwesten Myanmar, near Bangladesh.

They have their own kingdom in West Myanmar known as Arakan. The Arakan kingdom had been there since BC Era, and after British Imperial power left the area, the kingdom is included into Burma. During Moghul period in India, those Muslim soldiers from Bangladesh area entering the land and marrying the locals just like the opening of Syria to Islam.

Burma on the other hand is another kingdom, the Tibeto-Burman ethnic came from Lower Tibet plateau and they had defeated other earlier Tibeto-Burman people or the Pyu ethnic who had earlier established a kingdom called Shrikshetra in present Burma. After that they moved to neighboring kingdoms owned by the Mon, defeated them and absorbing them into their realm.

Now Myanmar/Burma only recognize Rakhine (Buddhist Arakanese), while Rauhingya (Muslim Arakanese) are not recognized and oppressed. They told outsiders who are not aware of the ancient history in the region that Rauhingyas are Bangladeshi to disown them from their kingdom :raging:.

The problem is almost or just the same with what our brothers in Patani Province of Thailand facing. Patani is a Muslim kingdom that co-exist with other ancient kingdoms of Northern Malaya since the early centuries. The Patanese king ancestors (Muslim Mon) had embraced Islam spread by Achehnese Muslim missionaries and abandoned previous Buddhism faith after guided by Allah SWT. But when British Imperial power falsely included into Thailand in the Treaty to trade us in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, those Patanese were then oppressed and the Central Thai government trying to assimilate and make them turn to Buddhism again with force.

Concerning Malay or any other ethnics whether they are Muslim or not, I'm comfortable to hold the fifth theory:

5) Descendants of Ketura, the third wife of Prophet Abraham.
The first human civilization is believed to began in Mesopotamia in Iraq today. Might be from there human moved in flow to other region since different ages and being various kind of different ethnics. We can elaborate this with what Allah told us in Quran which human are all brothers. Only human made ideology such as racism separates us and making us scratching each others face. Islam oppose this and teaching us to respect everyone through the Creed of One G-d and the final revelation to prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Other than that, I've got reports from International Ethnologists who made researches through languages link, local ancient history, and classical texts that actually Northern Malays from the state of Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu are the mix of Mon ethnic and native Malay. Mon* ethnic are of Austroasiatic group which descended down from West China and East India in ancient time. Mon ethnic have their own states in Lower Burma, and one of the area which is Mortaban is a Muslim area. Other Mon people are believed to be living all around Thailand including in Nakhorn Sri Thammarat in South Thai. Other ancient Mon kingdom is in Central Thailand near Bangkok today, their kingdom which is Phra Nakhorn Dvaravadi that exist since 500 AD was destroyed by Angkor Empire from Cambodia around 9th C.

I've seen many Rauhingyas in Butterworth and also in Georgetown of Penang. They always founded roaming around and some of them are begging for money in the bus. I don't know what happened to their welfare in this country and what had been done by the staffs of UNHCR. Well, we should actually help them according to our ability as a responsibility in religion but seeing children and ladies begging is not a favorable scene.

* Mon ethnic: Their language is non-tonal from Austroasiatic (Mon-Khmer) group. Those in South which live around the trans-border of Malayan Peninsula are now mixed with Malays and becoming devout Muslim while some still being Buddhist all over Thailand. They are the native of Siam Empire (Orang Asli Siam) who had established great kingdoms before Tai (Thai) ethnic entered South Thai in 12th C.

Hehe :D I had met few Muslim Malays who are not proud of their identity so I made decision to make my own researches by reading classical texts whether it is form Muslim source or non-Muslim source, learning Mon language and Sanskrit while also consulting scholars to ensure about our position in history. We need them to make sure that we don't receive the same fate like our Rauhingyas, Palestinians, Patanese, and other brothers or sisters.

Well, we are the same people with some Thais, and Burmese. I had few quarreling with some American Buddhist Khmers before who claimed us and accusing us as hijacking their territories, insulting our South Thai brothers as Terrorists just because they are Muslims, insulting us with Swine and actually those South Thais are terrorized on their ancestral lands by non-Muslims. They are not the Terrorists while the real colonizers are them, I mean the non-Muslim Khmers.

We are brothers to Achehnese too in the term of religion and also inter-marriages. As to say, those Muslims in Pasai at that time were Terrorized by native Hindus. The missionaries in Northern Malaya came from Pasai (Acheh), where they seek refuge under the native Buddhist king in Patani before they taught the Buddhist king about Islam. After that, the native people themselves became the defenders of Islam and really love Islam with all of their heart. Now, I hope Muslims don't look down on each other and always helping in defending Islam. I regret that there are Muslims who still looking down to others like what I had experienced during my Pilgrimage in Mecca. We are equal in the view of Allah SWT, the different of status only in Taqwa.

so we should stop calling ourselves Malays? I think one political party would not allow us to do that... we're like 20% of the "Malay" population.

Oh BTW, we don't consider Malays as different people. They are natives in Southern Malaysian Peninsula and our native languages actually is preserved in local Malay dialects.

Those Jakun aboriginal tribe in Pahang, Orang Laut in Johore, and few others are native Malays, only some of them are non-Muslim and nowadays Muslim associations trying to teach them about Islam and helping them to gain more confidence in themselves and to guard their lands from being deceived and hijacked by any parties or taking advantages from them. We need to educate them with Islam and later letting them manage themselves according to their understand in the scripture taught. Sadly Muslim associations have irresponsible people who only being there in the associations to get free money and zakat but are not sincerely striving to help teaching those poor people with religious knowledge. There are also people without any religious qualification and understanding about the aborigine customs joining the mission and giving bad names to Islam with their irresponsible and ignorant attitude.

There are also Christian mission reaching them, mostly from Sabah and I guess there are people in government who support them. We can't blame them for preaching, they have their rights. Those aborigines too have the right to choose what they want to believe. We only teach but Allah guides.

The reason why people in here are known as Malays is because of the ancient invasion of Srivijai Hindu empire around late 700 AD. Srivijaiya is a kingdom with a dynasty called Shailendra who gain power in South Sumatera around 700 AD. Shailendra was a Buddhist dynasty in Srivijaiya empire, I mean their ancestors are Kambujas of ancient Iron-Age India who dwell in SEAn region and being kings and later their descents married local.

In Hindu Law scripture of Manu, the Kambujas are regarded as Barbarian tribes categorized under Warrior Lords back in ancient India and their homeland was in Central Asia before they entered ancient India and later moved to Malayan Peninsula and other regions like in Cambodia (Kambuja), Lower Burma, and Thailand in ancient time.

Nobody to be blamed. Indonesian government had already helped those poor people when they were chased by Thai authority. That's is considered as good enough. Maybe Indonesian got false information about those people, and Myanmar Junta should be blamed for this. They oppressed the Muslims without we realize it since they closed the door for foreign media. Even Buddhist monks from Mon ethnics of Lower Burma too were brutally killed, I don't know what else will happen to those Rauhingyas when they arrive home :skeleton:.

Cambodia got her name from Kambuja ancient Indian tribes who became kings there. However their natives are called as Khmer. The Khmers are Hindus before being taught Buddhism of Theravada school by the Mon. It is a strict Buddhism school with Pali language tradition. Now Thailand still continuing the tradition of worshiping Guru (Buddha) of Theravada school. Cambodia people inter-twined Buddhism with Hindu and local animistic belief. Those American Khmers are so insolent when they included even us in Malayan Peninsula and Southern Thai as Khmer while we are not and also claiming that we hijack their lands when we telling them the truth. However we don't easily feel contended if we know who we really are.

There are Muslims people in South East Asia non-Muslim country. Bangsa Moro (Moro nation) in Southern Philippine.

But, can we categorize them as oppressed people ?.
Because, although they are in conflict with Philippine govt, they have strong militia groups and they rule rural areas in some islands in southern Philippine.

I just know that my mother has Acheh blood from both of her parents side but she's not tall. Her parents can speak Thai in Southern Thai dialect because they lived in Perlis near border area, I speak Thai because I had lived and studying there too.

My father has Arab ancestry from his father side and his first paternal ancestor in Kedah is a mufti of Kedah from Yemen in the reign of our 19th Sultan, who is Sultan Muhammad Jiwa II of Kedah. The descents of the Mufti came from 4 places which are Anak Bukit, Titi Gajah, Pulau Timbul, and in Penang I'm not certain from where. They are not religious people anymore imsad I heard that Sheikh Abdus-Samad al-Falimbani from Palembang too is the Kedah mufti son from the mother in Palembang. We in Kedah are from the daughter of Kedah palace official.

Because, although they are in conflict with Philippine govt, they have strong militia groups and they rule rural areas in some islands in southern Philippine.
If innocent civilian Muslims are killed, harrassed or injured while they never hurt anyone no matter by whom, then, they are considered as oppressed and victims...

I thought that Moros are of Malay or Austronesian stock, the same as Tagalogs in Northern Luzon, just they differs in the term of religion? My sister had hired a Filipino Muslim from Mindanao, but now she was sent back because the agent had illegally brought her in, we afraid that she will be jailed and my sister too will be sentenced by the authority for hiring illegal worker.

The agent who brought in the maid and dealing the affairs of maid is our own cousin, and when we ask her to give the appropriate travel documents like passport and visas, she just trying to escape us showing that she lied to us before she introduce the maid to us for benefit. Then she kicked and hit the maid in front of our face. My mom was so terribly shocked and she said that she will never forgive my cousin for treating a human-being like an animal, and actually it was her fault, not the maids fault.

Many too were destroyed by Thai authority and Burmese Junta in order to eliminate any trace to native culture and Islamic root there.

Sanskrit is not difficult too. The structure is just like Latin and Greek. And believe me you can speak with a Persian by using Sanskrit, I had tried that before and they seem like understanding me although they are like wondering what language that I had uttered :D Malay language that we speak today has at least 70% vocabulary borrowed from Sanskrit, so we just learn it like we learn Arabic :statisfie. As a Thai speaker too I'm having almost no problem learning Sanskrit, the high words used too have Sanskrit roots.

Most of Muslims living in Balik Pulau, Teluk Bahang, Batu Feringghi have Acheh ancestry.. my father is from Batu Feringghi.

But it's hard for us to call ourselves as Achehnese, Minangs, Patanis, Thais, Arabs, Persians, Turks or whatever because we're mixed people..

100% of Malay-speaking Muslims on Penang island are mixed people...

During British time Muslims migrated to Penang from many part of Asia... we have Arabs (Yemenis, Hijazis, Egyptians, Iraqis), Persians, Turks, Pashtuns, Gujeratis, Sindhis, Punjabis, Malayalis, Tamils, Karnatakans, Bengalis, Burmese, Thais, Kedahans, Perlisians, Perakians, Kelantanese, Terengganese, Malaccans, Achehnese, Sumatran Malays, Nias Islanders, Bataks (the Mendailings mostly), Bengkulunese, Minangkabaus, Betawis, Javanese, Boyanese, Banjarese, Buginese and Hui Chinese.

Muslims are not so many so inter-racial marriages among different Muslim ethnic groups were normal during that time... and most of the Muslims are originated from Acheh who were already mixed during that time.

I've read somewhere, a British Jew official was complaining about Jews in Penang who converted to Islam and Buddhism and assimilated into Malay or Chinese cultures..

So, we the Penangites, might even have Jewish connection...

That's why I prefer to be called as a Penangite because everybody knows that we're mixed people...

Conflict Of Integration Between Uighur-Han Ethnic
Mohd Khuzairi Ismail (Malaysian Courier)
rencana@utusan.com.my

Compared to Tibet which had grabbed World attention, the ethnic conflict in Xinjiang didn't get any wide coverage from International media. Although the crisis had happened since long ago, the Uighurs welfare is still neglected by Beijing.

However, Beijing herself seems not serious in solving the real problem in the region. The ethnic riot between Uighur and Han that broke last week which had took 180 souls in Urumqi, Xinjiang had opened the eyes of many parties.

It is very interesting that Beijing had made a decision to open the door wide for foreign media coverage over the conflict. This is totally different to the policy of China who had strictly restricting the region from foreign media from entering the region for news coverage before.

Many speculated that Beijing is trying to gain tenderness from International community. China is seen as trying to avoid being viewed as a failed in dealing with her own internal problem while the country is in the track of reaching the position of a New World Economic Power.

Beijing too is seen as cautiously trying to solve the crisis in Xinjiang as it is worried to be a conflict involving religious sentiment as the Uighurs are Muslims.

The region will be exposed to the threats of separatists and militant groups if the religious sentiment being in the stage.

Xinjiang which is bordering with Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and India in the south can't be lower estimated and could easily being exposed to militant groups.

Thus, Beijing hopes to give International community the real view about what had actually happened in Xinjiang through open the door policy. However, it doesn't mean that China is accepting the World's request for the crisis to be discussed in the council of UN.

Turkey is among the countries who is loudly and openly criticizing China and urging China to wisely solving the conflict according to International Law.

Among the countries bordering Xinjiang, the ethnic riot had also affected Turkey. Since the crisis broke, many native Uighurs have to seek refuge at the border of Turkey. China again rebukes and emphasizing that the problem is internal problem and they should will solve it themselves.

China is seen as delayed in solving the problem between ethnic in Xinjiang when the dissatisfaction among two majority ethnics was figured out in the alleys.

During Mao Chairman's era around 1949, Uighurs are the only majority ethnic there which comprised about 79% of the population while the Han was only 6% of the population. Other minority ethnics comprised 1% of the whole population.

But the "Go West" policy of China's Communist government at that time had brought in a mass entrance of Han population into the region. After that, the population of Han and Uighur was equalized and the population increased to 21 million people. Although the real natives in Xinjiang, Uighurs are treated as the second class citizen. The government is giving priority to the Hans.

The Uighurs are forbidden from using Turkish dialects, forbidden from performing their responsibilities as Muslims, forbidden from practicing their own customs and culture, and marginalized from the development policy of China.

Beijing too is shadowed with the fear that Uighurs as they are accused as involved in Terrorism activities and supporting Separatist movements. The fear crisis had made Beijing refused to locate the profits from Xinjiang's rich natural resources in the hand of Uighurs. The region which is located 4000 km from Beijing is reported as rich with minerals, gold, and tin iron, founded especially in the Valley of Tarim River.

The bias attitude toward the Uighurs had made Xinjiang being strictly monitered by Beijing. The communication in the region is restricted due to the fear that dangerous information is believed to be spread.

The strict policies of China imposed on Xinjiang is related to the strategic location of Xinjiang and being the door for China to enter Middle East.

The vast barren desert lands in Xinjiang is used to be the site for Nuclear Test Site and Armies Training. Xinjiang is used by China to be a defending site region in the West when China facing the expansion of Power from Soviet Union 40 years ago.

All of those heavy policies had oppressed the Uighurs. In the mean time, the insecurity feeling arise in both Uighur and Han ethnic. The sentiment doesn't need a big reason to bring a horrible ethnic riot.

The riots that recently killed 180 people in Urumqi is an example from a quarrel that happened in a factory in Southern China where the workers of Uighur ethnic was hurt.

Although the situation is growing a bit better with the presence of security forces in Xinjiang, but the events will still bringing a long term implication.

The same thing too grabbed the attention of a lecturer in History Department of Malaya University (UM), Dr. Suffian Mansor. According to him, the issues that arise in Urumqi are more than that when it involves economic and national integration. It also involves the future of the Uighurs and their rights being returned because they are marginalized by China.

The "Go West: policy of Beijing had raised the fear among Uighurs as they are worried about what will happen to them and their region in the future. The issue is not only restricted in Urumqi but also in the whole Xinjiang.

In economy perspective, Uighurs are marginalized far behind compared to the Hans who are placed in Xinjiang form outside the region. The poverty rate among the Uighurs is still high. Majority of them are poor and have no ability to pay the fee enrolling their children in the school.

Uighurs too have to suddenly compete with Han Chinese in order to get job. Those who are intelligent among the Uighurs had not been given opportunity to get reasonable places in the social position in Xinjiang.

The development policy in Xinjiang gradually witnessing the opening of lands for industries and oil plantations. It involves agricultural lands and grass lands of Uighurs who are in majority the farmers and shephards. This is what had been feared by the Uighurs and they are not certain about their position in their own homeland anymore. The "Go West" policy by Beijing had been viewed as benefiting Hans themselves and oppressing the Uighurs.

Suffian also suggested that in order to solve the problem, Beijing should taking a serious approach in giving autonomy status to the region in the real meaning like what had been given to other regions in China. Xinjiang however, had already being granted with autonomy status, and it is a special land with Uighur natives. But the autonomy status seems not so clear as the region is still in tight control by Beijing.

The Uighurs never put any high hope on the Governor of Xinjiang although he was choosen by Uighurs. The real power is in the hand of Wang Lequan, the Secretary of China Communist Party and he is a Han. The autonomy status given to Xinjiang before was not really benefiting Uighur or protecting Uighurs. If the real autonomy status being granted to Xinjiang, the natives there could together developing their region and deciding the direction of their region like other regions in China had enjoyed now. In the mean time, the government of China should be more just in planning the economic development of the region so that all of the ethnics there could equally enjoy the benefits gained from the region itself.

The rights for Uighur in language spoken, and the acts of worship should be guaranteed by Beijing to all Uighurs. Beijing too should be serious in cleaning the terrorist image imposed on the Uighur natives beside appointing Uighur leaders to make sure they are not left behind in the development of the nation.

The Xinjiang issue is related to the trust, justice, human rights, and the future of native Muslim Uighurs. As long as the issue is not wisely solved, it will continue haunting Beijing forever.

Mosque Being Closed

Police armed with semi-automatic rifles and club are forced to be at the area of the event. Chinese authority said, police had shot dead two Uighur men when they "breached the law" and hurting a person.

The event yesterday shown that the riot may return back in any time although the first riot happened last week after the ethnic tension had killed 184 people and the place is strictly guarded by the authority.

Uighur: Muslim nations in silence

Qaherah, July 14th - Most of Muslim nations are taking silence attitude toward the riot in Xinjiang where Beijing authority is sternly punishing the Muslim Uighurs in the region.

They are believed as do not want to affect their relationship in the term of business with China or bringing any attention from their political opponents, said political analyzers today.

Two non-Arab Muslim nations which are Turkey and Iran are among the countries criticizing China. However Iran is busy in dealing with her internal problem of the vote arguments after the presidential election. Turkey is reported as having blood relationship with the minority Uighurs in China.

"As for Arab World, the violence in China had almost created no reaction in their side. The Arab regimes couldn't criticize the violence on China's Muslim inhabitants because they themselves are not into democracy. They are in the same position with China," said a Jordanian political analyzer, Labib Kamhawi.

China had forced thousands of armies to Xinjiang since few days ago and imposing strict restriction on the capital of Xinjiang and few areas around the ethnic tension events. 1, 680 injured and 184 died in the bloody incident.

Uighurs with the population of 9 million people always complained about the entrance of Han ethnic from outside their region and the restriction to them by the government in practicing Islam.

They accused Han as trying to discriminate them and the Communist party is trying to vanquish their language and culture.

China is a business partner of few Arab countries including Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and other rich with oil countries in Gulf region.

The violence in Xinjiang had created protests almost everyday in Istanbul and Ankara where the national flag of China and made in China goods are burnt.

I think it is important to make people aware of all injustices and crimes against humanity.

But to focus too much on the oppression and injustice against ones own group can lead to feeling victimized and hated by the rest of the world.
We have to remember that that is not true!
Most Muslims live very peacefully in peaceful communities - even in non-Muslim countries.
Most Muslims are respected by their non-Muslim neighbours.

Perhaps we should balance threads such as this one with positive stories and experiences of Muslims who feels respected and welcomed in their communities.

This is just to clean the image of Muslims as we are accused with Terrorism and unbalanced Islamophobic acts being imposed on certain Muslims in certain non-Muslim majority countries had actually victimized us the most, in opposite to Terrorism or Violent image imposed by bias International media on Muslims. Nobody accusing Tamil Eelam (Hindus) with Terrorism as obvious as what had been unjustly imposed to Muslim when they blow themselves in Sri Lanka and killing Muslims in Northern Sri Lanka. International community have the right to be aware about us, and Muslims are of different nations and our culture is different to each other despite of the same Creed in G-d and final prophet (pbuh).

I agree that all of the injustice and crime in every place being exposed to the public and everyone should oppose the crimes but it seems that International media had posed the stigmas to Islam and Muslims. We can see that in the murder case of Marwa el-Sherbini in Germany. Even I'm also not aware about the case before because it is not exposed widely as what had been exposed on Muslim = Terrorist. In the same time we are aware too that there are also non-Muslim with balanced view and just but we can only see few of them.

We feel quite uneasy with this and we also experienced being discriminated in certain Muslim countries themselves like in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where they look down upon us from Malaysia, Indonesia, and other SEAn countries as Shakal (Slaves) when we with sincere intention wanted to help our Muslim "brothers" there while the treatment to Westerners working there is different. This is based from our experiences not simply by bias. We never treat others like that in our country here. Even non-native non-Muslims too were accepted by our kings who are also Muslims as their subjects after Independence from British Protectorate. We are forced to do that if we want to be Independent. Those non-Muslim natives too can live peacefully now and even demanding us native Muslims to respect their rights more than they respecting our rights in our own countries (states) in Malaysia.

I can see that our own government too are not touching the issue about Uighurs although we talk about Palestinians because of political restriction, the demography of our country is almost the same with Xinjiang (Turkestan) although we are Independent as a country with federal constitution. Also we can't obviously talk about Patani issue of Southern Thai region because of diplomatic relationship with Thai Central Government, and we afraid that they will be harmed there. Some of those from Patani too expressed their disappointment on us, but it is not our fault. What can we do as the political border had been decided after the Independence from the protectorate lord. We could only help telling the world on what happened to them. Many other Muslims in different regions being victimized and not only those in Palestine.

As for Southern Thai issue, those unknown snipers targeted Imams, religious teachers in Madrasa, civil teachers and religious knowledge students. Few innocent Buddhists like monks and civilian Buddhists were shot dead and slain too but the total of death is more to Muslim. South Thai Muslims there respecting Buddhist monks, our ancestors pre-Islamic time too without any shame for us to admit were actually Hindu-Buddhists who worshiped buddha, Hindu gods, demons, and spirits. We are Muslims now through His guidance and Will. Nobody knows who are the murderers, some people accused Thai Government, some accused Thai Army Authority, some accused the Drug Dealer Mafias, and some accused Muslim Militants and Separatists. It isn't clear till now. Muslim villagers of Southern Thai three provinces (Yala, Patani, Narathiwat) are afraid and feeling insecure, they can't trust anyone. We who live as the citizens of neighboring country too can't bear seeing fellow humans being murdered.

Would our brothers and sisters from Malaysia (and elsewhere) share with me in condeming acts of violence towards all religious groups?

I think part of the problem is that we hear what we want to hear and see what we want to see. We are biased which news we choose to read and believe in the first place ...

You say that positive news of relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims are few and far between. That may or may not be true. Perhaps the question is how hard are we looking to find some?
It is easy to (mis)interpret the lack of news reported to mean that there are no positive relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims. But I believe that's simply not true.

On the other hand, the terrible murder of Marwa el-Sherbini in Germany is a very isolated case ... and yet the story is sensationalised in some Muslim communities to such an extend that people begin to have the distorted belief that Muslims are hounded, hated and killed in Germany on a regular basis. Again, that is simply not true!

I am not belittling the terrible sin that has been committed in Marwa's case, the mistakes which may have been made and the terrible suffering which is the result for her family! I pray for her and her family, and I hope that people will learn from this sad case.

What I am trying to say is that we need to make a conscious effort to maintain a balanced outlook - and perhaps that means raising our awareness of positive stories, rather than only focusing on the bad things.

I've heard about that too. Not only churches being blasted but also mosques from both Sunni and Shi'ite were blasted by each other in Iraq. The people there in middle east are just like that since their culture is influenced by several factors and also if we don't sincerely follow the teaching in the scripture but using our unclear mind to act, everything could simply happens. I had experienced fighting with some Arabs and some Pakistani in Saudi Arabia due to being treated with insolent acts. They are looking down to us as Asian Muslims, but they are looking to Western world with high esteem. It is not Westerners fault being high esteemed by those people anyway, at least they had initiated in learning various branches of knowledge but in Muslim community ourselves, we are looking to status of a person and the currency as among the factors that made us being oppressed. Everything is rooted from Ignorance, even in Muslim community. This is my real intention, beside trying to magnify what had happened to Muslims in certain regions behind the "Iron Veil."

Yea, we can open up other threads for that. But we already being accused as Terrorists elsewhere we go imsad. Even when we have to enter the US or other Western world country, we will have to pass strict immigration process and taking long time with investigation like everyone of us is Terrorist. Hatred violence too happened to us due to what had been imposed to Muslim that equate us to Terrorism. That is false. We never support any Terrorism acts. Even a piece of cloth (veil) could bring so much impact to a Muslim lady. It may sounds exaggerating but we can't deny that as it is truly happening. The International media had exaggerated more than this about us.

Ignorance about us had happened since long time ago. And it is prolonged to us till today, even among ourselves, we are still ignorant about each other. Many Westerners are doing researches about Islam and Muslim nations, and they even had developed Oriental knowledge and many Orientalists are born. But are they really giving clear perspective about us to the people there in Western world? Had they sought the knowledge due to sincerity toward knowledge development or just in order to satisfy dominion over others? We had experienced being "Protectorate" lands to others differently to those in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Not only in the 19th C but it had happened long ago before Western Imperial power reached us. Many of our ancestors were sacrificed and even some of them were portrayed as criminals in Western books. We were also accused as non-civilized people while we already established civilizations in our regions since Pre-Islamic times before they were destroyed in ancient wars with non-Muslims.

Through what had been imposed to us by International media, we also received the effects even from Oriental non-Muslims and elsewhere .

It isn't an isolated case.. it is a case where the perpetrator felt he can go all the way, and in fact was allowed to, not a one vengeful stab, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven, not eight, not nine, not ten, not eleven, not twelve, not thirteen, not fourteen, not fifteen, not sixteen, not seventeen, I imagine at this point marwa's husband in utter shock jumps to her aid, and a cop shoots him not once but twice to make sure he is down.. her son is sitting there and alas the perpetrator stabs one more for a total of 18.. in a court filled with cops and witnesses, children one which we know as well dies in the process..

You tell me, it is isolated.. It was so incredibly deliberate that I imagine even enjoyed just given the hateful comments I have read about the death of this poor woman...

story isn't sensationalized.. you can look at it as the straw that broke the camel's back.. oh I know no one cares about the 2000 afghanis murdered by U.S troops, with no more than the base troll's words that they are terrorists, or 10,000 mass grave for Bosnians, or the Iraqis and palis on daily basis .. No, dear madam it isn't an isolated case.. it is an everyday occurrence.. what makes marwa's more maddening is that the west isn't only unmoved by the murder of a pregnant pharmacist, mother and wife, in a court room in broad day light, it is that not only do they feel it is justified, but try with every possible chance to either water it down, or bring unrelated acts that may or maynot be perpetrated by Muslims, and I doubt any of them are at all to deflect away from the situation...

Marwa is but a prototype Muslim woman representing the situation for the rest of us!

all the best

LTTE CHASED OUT 50, 000 MUSLIMS FROM THEIR HOME

Sri Lanka - The Muslims who are chased from their villages had given a new dimension to the war in Sri Lanka which had happened almost six month without any signs of ceasing.

The villages of Muslims in Northern of Sri Lanka which is in Mannar province (Island) is affected this recent when the group of Tamil Separatists had forced them to leave. The order from LTTE had made those Muslim villagers in Mannar and in other Island at the edge of Northern Sri Lanka worried.

The LTTE separatist guerilla were using the microphone and high technology fire-arms roaming in the roads and in the rural areas ordering Muslim villagers to leave out their village. Others who live as minority in Vavuniya, Killinochi, and Jaffna too were ordered to leave.

They were asked to leave their house with only some money and valuable belongings while other belongings such as their property, land grants, and business pavilion should be left behind and given to the LTTE who will give them receipts in return.

Muslims in northern Sri Lanka are afraid that the massacring event will happened to them like what had happened to other Muslims in Eastern part of Sri Lanka so they left their properties and houses without any procrastination last week. They have to use a special passage prepared by the LTTE and only permitted to bring limited amount of money for their travel fare which is around Rs. 500 - Rs. 1000.

Muslims in Mannar Island and also in the mainland of Sri Lanka at the beginning were ordered to move to the areas near the coast to make them easier leaving the place with boats to a jetty in Kalpitiya, 96 km from there. The journey with boat from Mannar to Kalpitiya took about six to seven hours but and sometimes it took 10 hours if the weather is bad.

The sudden order from the LTTE separatists launched because of few reasons. According to some Muslims who were interviewed, it is because of a discussion among an Islamic political party and a Tamil party in Colombo requesting for a separate Muslim Council in East that also involved Mannar. Other reason is that the LTTE believe that Muslims provided information about their movement to Sri Lankan security force. This had made the LTTE taking immediate act to Muslims.

However, the Sri Lankan Muslim Congress, which is the party who urged for a separate Muslim Council said that the LTTE do not need any reasonable reason to just chase them away from North.

The Defence Minister, Ranjane Wijeratne assumed that the demand for Muslim Council is the reason why the LTTE reacted.

He had made the Muslims from North and they told him that the LTTE had forced them to leave because the SLMC had demanded for a separate council for Muslim.

Mr. Wijeratne too had advised Muslims to write to the President, Premadasa as to make sure that the President informing the political party to spare Muslim civilians from the desperate situations.

The speaker of Sri Lankan Federal Young Muslim said that they will be sending medical teams to Kalpitiya and reported that government officials and the voluntary associations founded that it is difficult for them to help all of the refugees because there are too many of them and this is the first time it ever happened.

He also said that bad weather had made the circumstance even worse. It is impossible to locate 25, 000 refugees in a limited area. Those refugees were then transferred to Puttalam province and they have their shelter in Muslim schools.

Muslim refugees who arrived in Puttalam told their experience when they were ordered to leave their home. One of them said that LTTE army came to their houses last Sunday night and ordering them to leave. He said, "I beg them to spare me times to vacant the house until Monday but they forced me to move out in Sunday morning. They also took the house key from my hand and taking my valuable belongings.

Some of those Muslims claimed that the LTTE checked the women whether they were suspected as bringing valuable things.

Enlightening The Darkness In West About Islam
By Jamilah Bakar from Washington
Feb 5th 1990, Berita Harian (Daily News)

The questionnaire about Islam in the West always related to politics. Due to their narrowness about Islam, the development of universal Islam, and the developments in few Muslim nations had been seen with anxiousness. The misunderstanding which had also strengthened by Western media who tried to exhibit negative aspects in order to portray Islam with bad image.

Bias reports about the turbulence in Azerbaijan by Western media without we realize had protruded the rights of Muslims as the majority in the country. This kind of report was purposely brought by the media, in addition to the recently research showing that Russia will one day being Islamicized. Peter Drucker in his book "The New Realities" speculated that Islam will be largely accepted in Russia around 2025. Amer Taheri in his book "Cresent in a Red Sky: The Future of Islam in Soviet Union suggested that Islam will arise in Russia due to the emptiness in the soul and that human made ideologies couldn't satisfy the spiritual necessity of human.

A popular TV channel in the US recently had replayed a record about few Americans who were said as brutally tortured in Lebanon, while in opposite to that, those people had already home without any physical scratch or mentally abused. But when thousands of innocent life including helpless children were sacrificed in Sabra and Shatila, and others were chased and oppressed by Israeli authority, nothing about it being shown or touched in the channel.

However, a public TV channel agreed to bring six series of documentary about Islam which is known as Islam and the West. The project will began in September this year.

The $ 1.4 million project of the documentary is among the effort of Foundation for Traditional Studies with the head quarter in Washington. Prof. Seyyedh Hossein Nasr is the person who is responsible for the idea sparked. He is the president of the Foundation and a professor of Islamic Studies in George Washington University. He was born in Teheran, and educated in Harvard. He also had wrote 20 educational books about Islam and they were translated into various languages. He had also taught in other universities in the US, Middle East, Europe, Pakistan, India, Japan, and Australia.

He is a modern Muslim figure who wrote the philosophy and science in Islam and also had re-introduced the educational link, methods, and the life view of Ikhwan as-Safa, al-Biruni, and Ibnu Sina (Aveccina). He also had re-introduced Muslim Thinkers such as Ibnul Arabi, Suhrawardi, and Mulla Sadra to the academic world of East and West.

Although those figures mentioned are already known in the West, but the elements and the methods presented by Prof. Seyyedh Hossein is according to the academic tradition which is based from Sufism Metaphysics and Philosophy.

In a meeting with him, he had expressed his gratefulness toward the co-operation and financial assistance from all parties that had made the documentary project will be soon launched.

He also expressed his thanks to Malaysian Minister of Education, who had co-operated in organizing Muslim World Traditional Music Concert as among an effort in gaining funds for the documentary project. The concert was organized by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, TV3, and Berita Harian).

"I'm glad with all of the efforts from everyone." He said.

According to him, the documentary project is a huge project that is hoped will leave a long term impact. Leo Eaton, a famous and experienced director will be directing the documentary.

In the mean time, the Director of the Traditional Studies Foundation, Katherine O'Brien who will be the executive co-director of the documentary had already visited Malaysia with Prof. Seyyedh Hossein last 1986. They had visited few places like Malacca, Kelantan, and Terengganu because they will also including Islam in Malaysia in the documentary series. They also had seen few locations that will be included in the scenes.

A matter that had delayed the process of the project is that, the TV channel had posed a condition on the foundation. They are not allowed to receive funds from any countries as they do not want the documentary being bias. Fortunately, the foundation still receive funds from few private parties thus helping them in making the documentary a success.

The documentary will bring the viewers traveling in few countries and watching the life-style of Muslims from different countries such as in Africa, Spain, China, the US, few Europe countries, and others beside the focus on Islam, the local culture that blends with Islam, the history, and the relationship of Islam with Western world.

"The documentary Islam and The West is the first documentary that gives a whole and deep view about Islamic Civilization and its relationship with Western Civilization in every aspect such as art, culture, and etc," said Katherine O'Brien.

She also said that Malaysia will be included in several episodes of the documentary. The first episode shooting will be focusing on the development of Islam in Malacca which had became a center for Islam expanded in South East of Asia and the East. Few other places too being briefly included beside the narration about arts, crafts, and the mosque being shown to the audiences.

"Not to forget that we also had shoot the Quranic Recitation Competition organized in Malaysia," she further said.

Prof. Seyyedh Hossein too hope that the documentary may help portraying Muslims and how they live as Muslims while respecting the culture and the followers of other religions. This aspect is included in the fifth series of the documentary.

Ethiopia Opressing Muslims
Tajuddin Saman

Africa which consists 50 countries and 36 of them are facing the problem of malnutrition.

Ethiopia, which is a country which had been threatened by grievious famine, beside Mali, Chad, and Niger. The famine hits northern Ethiopia region which is Eritrea and Tigre where the majority of the inhabitants are Muslim.

Ethiopia with Marxism ideology and taking Russia as the example had oppressed the inhabitants. The brutality since the reign of emperor Haile Selassie had arouse the spirit the people in Eritrea and Tigre to rebel till the civil war waged and continued until 1962.

In Africa, Muslim comprises 44% of Chad citizens, 90% in Mali, 40% in Ethiopia, 75% in Guinea, 16% in Mauritania, and 99% in Somalia and Djibouti.

In the aspect of Islamic development in Africa, it is the earliest region that had relationship with Islam and the prophet (pbuh). The followers of prophet (pbuh) had seek refuge from the brutality of Ignorant Arabs of Mecca in Ethiopia twice before the prophet (pbuh) migrated to Medina. Muslims too had migrated to Ethiopia and some of them lived there since the first Hegira calender.

Few Muslim nations formed in spots in Africa such as in Ifat, Hadiah, Arbabini, Sherkha, Dawaro, Dara, and Bali. Since then, Islam expands and many natives embraced Islam such as from Gala tribes.

Islam rapidly blooms in Africa and had made Christian Ethiopian emperors angry. They launched attacks to Muslims, including the attack from king Johannes (1887) who had forced Muslims embracing Christianity. According to the book, Preaching of Islam, 55, 000 of Ethiopian Muslims were forced to embrace Christianity.

The king Menelik II who succeed king Johannes received assistance from Portugal, France, Italy, and Britain in the term of fire-arms supplies as the reward for recognizing the imperial powers and co-operating with imperialists in order to get more influence in Africa. The weapons were used to destroy Muslim kingdoms in Harar, Hausa, Wallo, Jimma, Arusi and Ogaden.

Those regions were all absorbed into Ethiopia rule. As the effect, many Muslims were slaughtered and the oppression began. King Menelik II practiced stern policy which he closed Madrasas, snatched the Quran copies, and religious books from Muslim inhabitants.

Muslims were stressed out even more when Haile Selassie ruled in 1930-1974. They were forced to embrace Christianity, building churches in their neighborhood, and their lands were seized.

When the army gain the power in 1974, the "brutality of Red" was executed. Any assembly in the mosques were forbidden and they are forced to dismiss. Christians are located again in Muslim region. For example, almost a million of Amharic Christians were re-located in Oromo, a Muslim region.

The efforts to vanquish Islam being executed including in education. Christianity being preached without any problem even when the country is under Red Marxism while Islam is persecuted. Christian groups too were financially helped by the ruler and the help from other Muslim countries being discarded from reaching Muslims. Their donated lands for the sake of religion too were seized.

In history, Islam was preached in Africa around 644 AD. Omar Ben al-Khattab being the second caliph, Barca in Northern Africa was Islamicized (644 AD). Later, Muslim soldiers entering Tripoli.

During the time of Uthman Ben Affan, Tripoli and other regions along to Tangier were Islamicized. In 666 AD, during the time of Muawiyya ben Abu Suffian, the whole Northern Africa, from Egypt to Atlantic sea were Islamicized.

The Zanji of Sudan in Central Africa embraced Islam in the 10th C while the first African who embraced Islam are the Ethiopians which the Negus of Ethiopia as-Hama Ben Abjar embraced Islam with his Royal Priest in 617 AD.

Though we condemn it, the death of your neighbor doesn't elicit the same emotional response as the death of your brother. It's just human to feel that way.

I actually rather question who allegedly bombed said churches?

By Robert Fisk
04/29/06 "The Independent" -- - In Syria, the world appears through a glass, darkly. As dark as the smoked windows of the car which takes me to a building on the western side of Damascus where a man I have known for 15 years - we shall call him a "security source", which is the name given by American correspondents to their own powerful intelligence officers - waits with his own ferocious narrative of disaster in Iraq and dangers in the Middle East.
His is a fearful portrait of an America trapped in the bloody sands of Iraq, desperately trying to provoke a civil war around Baghdad in order to reduce its own military casualties. It is a scenario in which Saddam Hussein remains Washington's best friend, in which Syria has struck at the Iraqi insurgents with a ruthlessness that the United States wilfully ignores. And in which Syria's Interior Minister, found shot dead in his office last year, committed suicide because of his own mental instability.
The Americans, my interlocutor suspected, are trying to provoke an Iraqi civil war so that Sunni Muslim insurgents spend their energies killing their Shia co-religionists rather than soldiers of the Western occupation forces. "I swear to you that we have very good information," my source says, finger stabbing the air in front of him. "One young Iraqi man told us that he was trained by the Americans as a policeman in Baghdad and he spent 70 per cent of his time learning to drive and 30 per cent in weapons training. They said to him: 'Come back in a week.' When he went back, they gave him a mobile phone and told him to drive into a crowded area near a mosque and phone them. He waited in the car but couldn't get the right mobile signal. So he got out of the car to where he received a better signal. Then his car blew up."
Impossible, I think to myself. But then I remember how many times Iraqis in Baghdad have told me similar stories. These reports are believed even if they seem unbelievable. And I know where much of the Syrian information is gleaned: from the tens of thousands of Shia Muslim pilgrims who come to pray at the Sayda Zeinab mosque outside Damascus. These men and women come from the slums of Baghdad, Hillah and Iskandariyah as well as the cities of Najaf and Basra. Sunnis from Fallujah and Ramadi also visit Damascus to see friends and relatives and talk freely of American tactics in Iraq.
"There was another man, trained by the Americans for the police. He too was given a mobile and told to drive to an area where there was a crowd - maybe a protest - and to call them and tell them what was happening. Again, his new mobile was not working. So he went to a landline phone and called the Americans and told them: 'Here I am, in the place you sent me and I can tell you what's happening here.' And at that moment there was a big explosion in his car."
Just who these "Americans" might be, my source did not say. In the anarchic and panic-stricken world of Iraq, there are many US groups - including countless outfits supposedly working for the American military and the new Western-backed Iraqi Interior Ministry - who operate outside any laws or rules. No one can account for the murder of 191 university teachers and professors since the 2003 invasion - nor the fact that more than 50 former Iraqi fighter-bomber pilots who attacked Iran in the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war have been assassinated in their home towns in Iraq in the past three years.
Amid this chaos, a colleague of my source asked me, how could Syria be expected to lessen the number of attacks on Americans inside Iraq? "It was never safe, our border," he said. "During Saddam's time, criminals and Saddam's terrorists crossed our borders to attack our government. I built a wall of earth and sand along the border at that time. But three car bombs from Saddam's agents exploded in Damascus and Tartous- I was the one who captured the criminals responsible. But we couldn't stop them."
Now, he told me, the rampart running for hundreds of miles along Syria's border with Iraq had been heightened. "I have had barbed wire put on top and up to now we have caught 1,500 non-Syrian and non-Iraqi Arabs trying to cross and we have stopped 2,700 Syrians from crossing ... Our army is there - but the Iraqi army and the Americans are not there on the other side."
Behind these grave suspicions in Damascus lies the memory of Saddam's long friendship with the United States. "Our Hafez el-Assad [the former Syrian president who died in 2000] learnt that Saddam, in his early days, met with American officials 20 times in four weeks. This convinced Assad that, in his words, 'Saddam is with the Americans'. Saddam was the biggest helper of the Americans in the Middle East (when he attacked Iran in 1980) after the fall of the Shah. And he still is! After all, he brought the Americans to Iraq!"
So I turn to a story which is more distressing for my sources: the death by shooting of Brigadier General Ghazi Kenaan, former head of Syrian military intelligence in Lebanon - an awesomely powerful position - and Syrian Minister of Interior when his suicide was announced by the Damascus government last year.
Widespread rumours outside Syria suggested that Kenaan was suspected by UN investigators of involvement in the murder of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri in a massive car bomb in Beirut last year - and that he had been "suicided" by Syrian government agents to prevent him telling the truth.
Not so, insisted my original interlocutor. "General Ghazi was a man who believed he could give orders and anything he wanted would happen. Something happened that he could not reconcile - something that made him realise he was not all-powerful. On the day of his death, he went to his office at the Interior Ministry and then he left and went home for half an hour. Then he came back with a pistol. He left a message for his wife in which he said goodbye to her and asked her to look after their children and he said that what he was going to do was 'for the good of Syria'. Then he shot himself in the mouth."
Of Hariri's assassination, Syrian officials like to recall his relationship with the former Iraqi interim prime minister Iyad Alawi - a self-confessed former agent for the CIA and MI6 - and an alleged $20bn arms deal between the Russians and Saudi Arabia in which they claim Hariri was involved.
Hariri's Lebanese supporters continue to dismiss the Syrian argument on the grounds that Syria had identified Hariri as the joint author with his friend, French President Jacques Chirac, of the UN Security Council resolution which demanded the retreat of the Syrians from Lebanese territory.
But if the Syrians are understandably obsessed with the American occupation of Iraq, their long hatred for Saddam - something which they shared with most Iraqis - is still intact. When I asked my first "security" source what would happen to the former Iraqi dictator, he replied, banging his fist into his hand: "He will be killed. He will be killed. He will be killed."

Marwa's murder was deliberate and cruel. No doubt about it.

What I meant by 'isolated case' is that this is the only case of a Muslim in Germany being killed for her faith that I am aware of.
Now there may be other cases like this, but I do not believe that being killed for your religion in a frequent or regular occurrence in Germany.
I don't think it is justified to think of Germany as a Muslim-hating and anti-Islamic nation, based on one such isolated incident (however tragic and terrible that incident may be!)

If I am mistaken then the media manipulate our knowledge and understanding of what goes on in the world more than I expected!

oh I know no one cares about the 2000 afghanis murdered by U.S troops, with no more than the base troll's words that they are terrorists, or 10,000 mass grave for Bosnians, or the Iraqis and palis on daily basis .. No, dear madam it isn't an isolated case.. it is an everyday occurrence..
I agree that there are too many innocent people murdered across the world. It is a shame to humanity! imsad

When I spoke about an isolated incident I was referring to the murder of Marwa in Germany, not in places like Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq!

But what makes you think that no one cares??
I know of many non-Muslims who pray for peace on a daily basis, and who are involved in charity and human rights groups and anti-war demonstrations to address those issues you mentioned. Would you like me to find some links for you?

what makes marwa's more maddening is that the west isn't only unmoved by the murder of a pregnant pharmacist, mother and wife, in a court room in broad day light, it is that not only do they feel it is justified, but try with every possible chance to either water it down, or bring unrelated acts that may or maynot be perpetrated by Muslims, and I doubt any of them are at all to deflect away from the situation...
That is grossly unfair.
What makes you think that the 'West is unmoved'??
You may hear some people say hateful things, you may hear some politicians trying to worm their way out ... but please don't draw the conclusion that the 'West is unmoved'! It is not true.

It's OK ma'am, you may bring them here, we need to clear the misunderstanding in both sides :statisfie no problem. The reason I made this thread is to clear the misunderstanding of both side and not only talking about Muslim oppression to blame others. We just highlighting what had been hidden in one side so that everyone of us could see what had happened through out human history.

I would like to see both World, East and West could co-exist without any misunderstanding and living in peace. We had experienced being colonized by Western World whether Western World deny it or not. We feel that International media leaded by Western medias had been unjust to us all and not highlighting about Muslim sufferings rather slandering us with Terrorism, Militant, and Separatist acts. That is so disappointing imsad This is also being the reason of other medias such as CCTV (China Central Television) and al-Jazeera channel being established as they are trying to oppose what had been tagged to others.

I may also point out about a Yemeni Jew lady, Ofar Haza who was killed by Israel for her participation in human rights in helping to bring the problem of Yemeni Jews being oppressed in Israel to the knowledge of the world and she's not a Muslim.

The question is why Islam is being accused as the only religion related to Terrorism by Western media until it is also being the trend in other non-Muslim media? Any other hidden agendas? I can only see Islam served as the opponent to inequalities, the destroyer of racism although G-d never asks us to abandon our own culture, and destroying the barriers of status that made human enslaving others who are also the same human as them, although some Muslims were also deceived through false nationalism and other flaws in themselves taught through Imperialism or due to the influence from previous customs (native Muslims in my country have Hindu-Buddhism root). I'm not condemning other faith, I have fair knowledge about Hinduism and Buddhism and I lived among Buddhists who practiced Brahmanism (ancient Hinduism), also had earlier participated in their religious activities during the time of my ignorance in my own religion (Islam).

Islam actually had helped us defending our grandfathers from being enslaved in 19th C and before by non-Muslim regional nations/kingdoms through the teaching of Hubb-ul-Wathani (Love the Motherland). We still are Muslim here although we are non-Arabs speaking our ancestors language, and our grandfathers and grandmothers defended Islam more than those in the Middle East.

Another bombing, this time Indonesia and again another somewhat indiscriminate target. Thinking over the question why, I presume those placing these bomb shared the same sentiments displayed in this thread i.e. that Muslims are being badly treated in one shape or another and that the principal protagonist is the ‘west’ and that these expensive hotels are legitimate targets because they are owned or occupied by ‘westerners.’

I started wondering about how some Muslims came about this Muslim v ‘west’ conflict and pondered the question is it a Muslim v west conflict or is it a believer v non-believer conflict or a dar-al-Islam v dar-al-kafir conflict i.e. are these disgruntled Muslims blaming the ‘west’ or the kafirs for their perceived injustices?

ISLAM BLOOMS AGAIN IN TURKEY
Dec 1st, 1989

An order forbidding Muslim ladies covering themselves with veil and obliged them to wear modern style clothes modeled from West in the universities in Turkey had been a new symbol for the separation between religion and states.

There is no such thing in Islam as the separation of religion and states, we are not like the Catholic in 17th C or in the medieval time and every Muslim must equip themselves with scripture knowledge and basic jurispundence, the religion is not the monopoly of any particular religious group. Isn't this also considered as snatching others right to practice their faith when they are banned from wearing veil in the public? It is no different to what had been imposed to certain Muslim nation who banned skimpy dress on the ladies who wants to wear such dress in the public. In my country, women are free to wear anything they want, without veil or with veil, even some Muslim teenagers are wearing vogue clothes or American teenage style more than what had been worn in the US or in West

The separation had happened since the rule of Attaturk when the ideology of Secularism being introduced as the basic principle of the Republic of Turkey. Kemal Attaturk had rejected anything Islamic from the heritage of Ottoman Caliphate in 1923.

However after 66 years, Muslims are permitted to preach Islam again in the road. Recently a group of women had destroyed 150 pictures of naked women in an art gallery as a protest on the effort of manipulating human as art material.

Those women with veil too protested in Ankara calling for the ban of veil in universities being banished after Turgut Ozal being elected as the president in October 31st.

Ozal is the first president of Turkey from non-elite army group and he is not a secularist. He supported the rights of the women covering themselves with veil.

While when he was a Prime Minister for six years, he had performed pilgrimage to Mecca thrice. He is quoted as saying last year: "Islam is the basis of our Unity and it is important above all."

The step of Ozal attending Friday prayers being followed by other politicians and the ministers in his cabinet. Among them who also attended the Friday prayer is the foreign minister, Mesut Yilmaz, a figure with Liberal Thinking.

However, many diplomats rejected any possibility that a revolution as what had happened in Iran will happen in Turkey. According to a research of citizens' opinion in 1988, almost 69% of Turkish reject any Islamic Revolution.

The diplomats emphasized that Turkey is a pragmatic country including in the issue of religion. Turkish had been living for 65 years under Secularism and they are of Sunni school that made them different to those in Iran.

But few, Secularist figures in Turkey are anxious that Islamic system will absorb in through the back door of the country.

"Almost 200, 000 Muslims finishing their studies in the Madrasa in Turkey every year. Some of them became the teachers in Madrasa, Law workers, school teachers, police, and government servants," said an article writer and a religion researcher, Ugur Mamcu.

The numbers showing that since six years ago that 30% of the graduates in Science Politics Department of Ankara University are with religious background. The faculty is among the famous faculties in Turkey and for more than 130 years ago, it had created many candidates who served high posts in government service.

"In the 21st C, many of those government servants are with religious background in their education." Mumcu said

A Muslim preacher known as Cemalettin Kaplan who is also called as the "Black Voice" is wanted by the authority because of his speech calling for a revolution in Turkey during his visit in West Germany.

The groups who had chosen for Islam are actually divided to few Tareqa (parties) and supported by government although not openly announced in the public.

Although the Law in Turkey posed a long term jail sentence to those who oppose Secularism, many know that the Tareqa groups exist and many of them are involved in political turbulence in Turkey.

Mumcu said that, an official policy which is rarely known to public was announced, that Islam is permitted by the authority as it could discard the development of Communism in Turkey.

Reports in newspapers said that politicians always discuss with the leaders of Tareqa which is rarely denied by the authority.

Tareqa Nur is believed supporting Suleyman Demirel who had been elected a PM for four times. He is now a leader of the opposition political party known as "True Path."

Tareqa Suleymanci which was formed in 50's focused on Islamic education using Quran as the basis of the subjects in their school.

Tareqa Naqsyabandi, that had exist since 13th C in Central Asia was categorized under anti-Secularism group among all religious movement in Turkey.

Naqsyabandi is said as having close relationship with Ozal family which the first PM of Turkey came from and in 1983 the PM had established Islamic Bank with special rights.

Tareqa - Sufi movement

Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih And The Opening Of Istanbul (Constantinople) 1453 AD
By: Hasrizal Abdul Jamil
BA (Hons) SHARIA Mu’tah University, Jordan

Introduction

Istanbul or previously known as Constantinople, is among the cities regarded as nostalgic to the World. It is not only recorded in Islamic History, but the status of the city as among the main city in the World certainly attract people around the World to see the connection of their glorious history in the city of Istanbul which was established by the Emperor of Byzantine, Constantine I around 330 AD.

The strategic location of the city, was expressed by Napoleon Bonaparte as, "...if this World is a Country, Constantinople is the one qualified as the Capital!" Constantinople had already became the Capital of Byzantine Empire since its establishment. This had made the City as among the biggest main City of the World.

The location of the City, had placed it in a special position in Muslims mind when both of the Civilization met. The prophet (pbuh) was reported as had already prophecied for few times about the good news. He was reported as saying that the City will be opened again by Muslims in Khandak Battle. Prophet (pbuh) said in a Hadith:

"Indeed Constantinople will be opened. The most honorable leader is their leader, and the most honorable soldiers are his soldiers."

There is also other Hadiths reported this, and this had made Muslim Caliphates and other leader of Muslims trying to subdue the City of Constantinople. THe first effort was made in 44 H in the time of Muawiyya Ben Abi Sufian. But his effort was to no avail showing that "the honorable leader is yet to come." A companion of the prophet (pbuh) whose name is Abu Ayyub al-Ansari too was martyred and he was buried at the sub-urb of the City. In the time of Umayya Caliphate, Sulaiman Ben Abdul Malik tried to subdue and re-open the city again in 98 H with his capable army but G-d (Glorious be His Name) still did not permit them to enter the City. (refer to Al-Ibar by Ibnu Khaldun 3 / 70 and Tarikh Khalifah Ben Khayyath pg. 315)

In the era of Abbasiyya, the efforts were still in progress but still fail to subdue the City including in the time of Caliph Harun ar-Rasyeed in 190 H.

After the falling of Baghdad in 656 H, the effort to subdue Constantinople was continued by few small kingdoms in Minor Asia (Anatolia), especially by the Kingdom of Seljuq. Their famous leader, Alp Arslan (455-456 H/1063-1072 AD) had succeed in defeating the Emperor of Rome, Dimonos in 463 H/1070 AD. He had seized Dimonos and jailed him before he was conditionally released after he agreed to pay for annual Jizya (a small amount of tax to protect the kingdom of those who were subdued). This event had put a large part of Roman Empire under the influence of Muslim Seljuq Kingdom.

However, Seljuq faced turbulences and later fall. Few fractions of small kingdoms were formed from Seljuq. Among them is Roman-Seljuq that had managed to expand their influence to the Ege Sea in the East, and later weakened the influence and the grippance of Roman Empire.

Costantinople And Daulah Ottomania

In the beginning of the 8th H/14 C, Daulah Ottomania had made a pact with Roman-Seljuq which at that time were centralized in Konya City. The pact had rejuvenates Muslims' spirit to subdue Constantinople. The earliest effort was made by Sultan Yildrim Beyazid where he had surrounded the City in 767 H/1393 AD. The chance is used by Sultan Beyazid to force the Emperor of Byzantine to surrender the administration of Byzantine to Muslim in peace without any blood spilling. However Muslim failed to enter after assistance came from Europe and in the same time, the Tartar-Mongol (Chagatay Turks) army lead by Tamerlane attacked Daulah Ottomania. The attack was known as the War of Ankara and this had made Sultan Beyazid have to retreat his army as to defend the kingdom from the attack. Sultan Beyazid was subdued and later died in 1402 AD. The event had stopped the idea to subdue Constantinople for a while.

When Daulah Ottomania managed to develop again after the war, the spirit to work on the re-opening of the City alive again. Their spirit and their diligence had determined Sultan Murad II (824-8663 H/1421-1451 AD) to continue the effort. Again, they surrounded Constatinople but in the same time, betrayal happened among Muslims. The Emperor of Byzantine took the opportunity to pour slanders and scatter the saf (lines) of Muslim army. This had made the efforts of Sultan Murad II facing the failure until the time of his son, Sultan Muhammad al-Fateh, the 7th Caliph of Daulah Ottomania.

Since his childhood, Sultan Muhammad al-Fateh had closely observed and seeing the efforts of his father to subdue Constatinople. He also studied the earlier efforts made along Muslim History in order to re-open the City. This had strengthened his desire to continue the efforts of previous Muslims. When he succeed his father in 855 H/1451 AD, he had started to think and arranging strategies to subdue the City.

The strength of Sultan Muhammad is actually in his high moral and personal characters. Since child, he was intensively educated by pious Ulamas in his time. During the rule of his father, Sheikh Muhammad Ben Ismail al-Kurani is the one who became the Murabbi (teacher) of Amir Muhammad. In that time, Amir Muhammad was a governor in Manisa. Sultan Murad II had sent few Ulamas to teach his son before, but he never pay attention to them. Later he sent al-Kurani to Amir Muhammad and he also had given the authority to stroke Amir Muhammad if he refuse to respect the teacher. When he met Amir Muhammad and explained that Sultan Murad II had given him the authority to stroke him if he refuse to listen to his teacher. Amir Muhammad spontaneously laughed and Sheikh al-Kurani stroked the prince on the spot. This event had left a deep meaning to Amir Muhammad and later he memorized glorious Quran in only short time.

The education received from Murabbi Ulamas had been a major influence and brought big impact not only to Sultan Muhammad, but also to the administration pattern and the customs of Daulah Ottomania. If Sultan committing wrong things, his Murabbi will advise him. Sultan Muhammad was only called by his name without any title by his Murabbi, and when he shake hands with the Ulamas, he will lower himself and humbly kissing their hands as the sign of respect. The Sultan is respected in the whole Muslim world (we in SEA respect him as a pious king and caliph), his characteristics is formed through scripture and religious education.

Sheikh Ak Semsettin

In the same time, Sheikh Semsettin (Syamsuddin) is among a Murabbi (Teacher) of Sultan Muhammad. His real name is Muhammad Ben Hamzah ad-Dimshiqi ar-Rumi, and he is among a descent of prophet companion, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. He taught Sultan Muhammad basic knowledges such as Quran, Hadiths, Linguistics (Arabic, Persian, Turkish), and skills such as Maths, Astrology, History, and Battle Tactics.

Sheikh Ak Semsettin confided Sultan Muhammad that he is the one mentioned by prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in Hadiths concerning the re-opening of Constantinople. When he succed his father, he immediately met Sheikh Ak Semsettin and prepared for army to subdue Constantinople and fulfilling the prophecy of the prophet (pbuh). A battle happened and it took about 54 days.

Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih loves Sheikh Ak Semsettin so much. He is among his important and respected teachers. He mentioned about him during the re-opening of Istanbul, "...all of you can see that I'm glad today. But this pleasure is not only because of the re-opening of the City, but this is also because my Sheikh is present with me today, he is my Teacher, Sheikh Ak Semsettin."

Preparation toward the re-Opening

Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih had made a large preparation to achieve the goal in subduing the City. He prepared for about 250, 000 soldiers and it is considered as a big army at that time. Those soldiers were intensively trained and they were told about the prophecy.

They build Rumeli Fort (Rumeli Hisar) at the bank of Bosphorus Channel. It is the narrowest part between banks of Asia and Europe. The Fort is facing a Fort build by Sultan Beyazid at the Asian side. It functioned in monitoring the traffic at the channel. The Emperor of Byzantine tried hard defending his City by sending troops to destroy the Fort build by Sultan Muhammad, however his plan were all failed and Sultan Muhammad managed to finis the construction of the Fort.

Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih too had managed to upgrade the armories thet will be used by his army. He get the srvice of a canon specialist whose name is Orban. Few canons were invented including the famous Royal Canon. Few historical notes told us on how big is the canon and it is the biggest canon at that time. The weight of the canon achieved hundred tonnes and it needs hundred of people to make it move. He also prepared 400 ships for the same reason to subdue the city.

He made pacts and peace treaty with other enemies. This is also an important strategy where they only focused for one target without any sudden threats. Among the treaty made is with Galata, a neighbor of Byzantine. The news about that reached Byzantine Emperor and he's so much anxious. Later, he tried anything that he can to influence Sultan Muhammad to cancel his desire to enter Constantinople. Byzantine Emperor too tried to bribe the Sultan with presents and gifts, however the Sultan never accept those things.

Seeing that all of his efforts to avoid his City from being subdued, the Emperor later trying to get help from Western European nations. His fear is more than the pride and loyalty in his religion had made him ignoring the difference in their sect. All of the Byzantine Churches are holding the Orthodox sect while the leadership of the Church in Western European countries are the Catholics.

The Emperor do not care anymore to be a hypocrite in order to maintain his power and status. He also agreed to change the sect of Byzantine from Orthodox to Catholic in order to unite both sects. He also had delivered his speech in Hagia Sophia Church and proclaimed the obedience of Byzantine to Catholic leadership in Western Europe. This had made the inhabitants of Byzantine angry. One of the Orthodox religious leader had said that, "I would rather see the turban of Turks here, than seeing the knight hat of Latins!" The situation had made the subjects rebelled to the decision of the Emperor and they assumed their Emperor as a traitor.

The Attack

Costantinople has few special geographical traits. It is surronded bt sea in three side, which are the Bosphorus channel, Marmara Sea, and the Golden Horn Maritime area which has a door with gigantic iron grill. It functioned to stop ships from entering the main entrance of Constantinople.

After few neat process, Sultan Muhammad finally reached the entrance of Constantinople on Thursday 26th of Rabiul Awwal 857 H/6th April 1453 AD. In front of his 250, 000 army, he delivered his sermon and reminded them about the importance to purify their intention and only hoping for the reward from G-d. He also recited few Quranic verses and recite again the Hadiths about prophet's prophecy. This boost soldiers spirits and they praise G-d beside reciting prayers to Him. Ulamas too are together with them and always reminding them if they commit wrong doings.

The next day, Sultan Muhammad arranged and divided his army to three groups. The first group is the main group patrolling around the City. Behind the first group, which is the spare troops supporting those in the front. Royal Canon was placed facing Topkapi Port. Other army were placed in few strategic area such as around Byzantine. The ships of Ottomania were placed around the maritime area surrounding Constantinople. However. those ships failed to enter the Golden Horn Cape because of the Iron Chain at the Entrance.

Since the first day of the attack, Byzantine soldiers had tried hard to prevent Ottomania soldiers from getting close to their entrance doors. But strategic attack launched by Muslim soldiers succed in breaking the obstacles. This is also followed by the attacks from canons surrounding the city. The sound of the canons made the subjects in Constatinople scared and affected their spirit to hold on.

Ottomania army in the sea tried several times to pass the Iron Chain at the entrance door of Golden Horn Cape. The same time, they have to face arrows shot from Byzantine ships and Western European ships who came to help. The trial of Sultan Muhammad to enter Constantinople fail and this gives a bit hope for the people in Constantinople. Priests walked in the alleys of the City and reminding the subjects to be patient and praying to Jesus and Mary so that the City will be saved from the infidels (Muslim). The Emperor of Byzantine too frequently visiting the Church of Hagia Sophia for the same reason, to pray.

The Treaty Between Sultan Muhammad and The Emperor Constantine

The Emperor Constantine tried to deceive Sultan Muhammad with presents and offers to make sure that he can maintain his position as the Emperor. But Sultan Muhammad never accept those offers, but repeating that his decision will never change. He urged the Emperor to peacefully surrendering the City to Daulah Ottomania. Sultan Muhammad promised that if Constantinople being surrendered without any blood spilling, nobody will be harmed, he himself will make sure that no churches being demolished, and guaranteed the safety of Constantinople subjects' property. Among what had been written in his letter to Constantine, "...surrender your Empire, Constantinople. I swear that my soldiers will never harm anyone life, property, and dignity. Those who wants to live in the City may live and are free to do anything. And those who want to leave also may safely leave."

However, the ecirclement of Sultan Muhammad is still incomplete due to the obstacle at the Golden Horn Cape. The Muslim soldiers are still launching attacks and in 18th of April 1453 AD, the army of Daulah Ottomania succeed in breaking the Wall of Byzantine in Lycos Valley which is located in the west of the City. Byzantine army worked hard defending their city. Few battles to happened with horrible arrows flying all around.

The same day, few Ottomania war ships rushed into the entrance in Golden Horn Cape. The union of Byzantine army and Western Europe managed to defend the entrance and their ships were destroyed. They have to return back to their region and avoiding from being totally destroyed.

Two days after the attack, another attack followed in the sea between both parties. Sultan Muhammad himself monitoring the mission from the coast. He sent a messenger to his soldiers in the sea during the battle. He said, "...whether you subdue those ships or you make them all sink. If you fail, don't come ever come back, while you are still alive!"

Sultan Muhammad too riding his horse near the beach and loudly shouted, the name of the mission leader, Palta Oglu to boost his spirit. Seeing their Sultan doing so, they work more hard. But they still fail. The failure had made Sultan Muhammad so angry and he fired Palta Oglu. The position was given to Hamza Pasha.

The failure had given a large impact to Ottomania soldiers. Khalil Pasha who was a Wezir (minister) trying to persuade Sultan Muhammad to cancel the attacks and accepting the Treaty with Constantinople that those people will surrender without the need to be subdued. The suggestion is objected by Sultan. Now is the time for him to think about the tricks for his soldiers to pass the Golden Horn Cape through sea...

The Miracle of Ottomania Soldiers

Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih had found an extraordinary method to bring the ships into the area of Golden Horn Cape. Nobody had ever think about this before. He called hos army and suggesting them to bring the ships into Golden Horn Cape maritime area using land route! At that night, the army with extraordinary spirit managed to pull 70 ships from the coast of Besiktas to Galata through high hill with the distance of 3 miles! This extraordinary event is beyond the imagination of human today.

In 22 April, the people of Costantinople were surprised with the voice of people chanting the Takbeer, and the praising songs of the soldiers in the Golden Horn Cape. Nobody could imagine how is that happened in only a night. Some of them too believed that Sultan Muhammad summoned the assistance from demons and satan. Yilmas Oztuna in his book the History of Othmania told us that how a historian of Byzantine empire said, "We had never seen or hear this kind of miracle before. Muhammad al-Fatih had made the land became sea, and sailing his ships on the top of the hill and not on the sea. This is more than what had been done by Alexander the Great."

Costantine organized a meeting with his ministers to plan the next strategies, but they still fail to find any solution. Constantine refuse to go to Roma and seeking help there, so he decided to defend the City alone.

Big Attacks

The position of Ottomania is now firmed, and Sultan Muhammad launched big attacks to the last Fort of Byzantine. The canon destroyed a merchant ship at the Cape of Golden Horn and chase away European soldiers. They leave through Galata. After the success, the attack were launched day and night.

The chants of “G-d is the Greatest!” filling the air and it seems like phsychologically threatening the people. Their spirit low down, and in the same time they did not expect the new tactic of war that had made them astonished.

When the heavy wind stopped, the people of Constantinople realized that Muslim soldiers had dug tunnels to enter the center of the City. They are afraid, even sometimes mistaken their own foot step sound as coming from Muslim Turks steps. They are afraid that the "Turks" will arise from the ground because of the tunnels.

Last Peace Effort

Sultan Muhammad is confident that he will win the battle. His love toward Constantinople and the prophecy of prophet (pbuh) had determined him to subdue the City without any destruction. He sent a messnger again to Constantine and calling the Emperor to surrender the City without any war. When the messenger delivered the message, Constantine discussed with his ministers whether they should surrender or defending the City to their last blood? Some suggest him to just surrender while some wanted to defend their City. Constantine chose the second suggestion and he sent a respond to the Sultan, "...grace be to Lord that Sultan desires for peace and is ready to accept Jizya tax. But Constantine had already sworn to hold in here till the end for the crown... or die here and engraved in the City!" When he received the respond, Sultan Muhammad answered, "All right... it will be so in Constantinople, whether the crown or the coffin..."

Muhammad later discussed about the next strategies. And he has to consider many possibilities in his plan to subdue the City.

Victory Day

In 27 May 1453, Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih with his army prepared themselves with spiritual disciplines. They trying to purify themselves in the presence of G-d. They prayed and praised G-d with the hope that the Victory would come without any loss. The Ulamas checkced the lines of the soldiers and boosting the spirit of the soldiers. They were told about the companion of prophet Abu Ayyub al-Ansari who was martyred in the City, "...indeed when the prophet (pbuh) came to Medina with the victory of Hijra (migration), he had went to the house of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari. Abu Ayyub had came to Constantinople, and he is still here." This word too is carved in the mind of Sultan Muhammad and his soldiers.

The same thing too happened in Constantinople, they performed their prayers with all of their heart with the hope that He will assist them...

In the morning of Tuesday, 20th Jumadil Awwal 857 AD/ 29th May 1453 AD, a mass attack was launched. The army was ordered to chant the prayers before entering the City. The people there are at the peak of their fear. The Muslim soldiers who had purified themselves had thinking nothing about worldly affair. They just think about G-d and entering the City.

They succeed to penetrate the City through Ederne Port and the flag of Ottomania waving in the air on the peak of the City. Constantine who had lost all of his hope had took of his Emperor suit so that he won't be recognized by enemies. He was killed in the battle field when trying to escape.

The news about the death of the Emperor weakened the spirits of Byzantine army. The victory is on the side of Muslims and Sultan Muhammad expressed his gratitude to G-d and toward the inhabitants of earth and heavens. He said, "...thank you G-d, and may G-d bless the soul of those martyred, and the pride and gratitude is for my subjects (including the Byzantines)."

The most good Leader and Soldiers

In that day, the majority of Byzantines are hiding in the churches around the City. Sultan Muhammad had warned his soldiers to greet the people with respect beside he congratulate his soldiers as they had succeed in fulfilling the prophecy of prophet (pbuh):

"Indeed Constantinople will be re-opened. The most leader is their leader, and the most good soldiers is his soldiers."

With full of gratitude and humble, Sultan Muhammad prostrated to the earth and pouring sands on his head as the sign of his humbleness and gratitude to G-d for granting him the victory.

He walked to the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia where a large number of Christians are seeking refuge in there and when he approached the door, he can see the fear in their faces. A priest opened the door for him, and Sultan Muhammad asked him to tranquilize those who are seeking refuge in the church. Through his tolerance, they arise out from their hidden places and even some of the priests bearing their testimony of being a Muslim seeing that Muslims are not like what they imagined before.

After that, Sultan Muhammad asking the Bishop permission to change the Cathedral into a Mosque so that the first Friday prayer can be conducted there. While talking with the Bishop, a Turkish soldier came, he is a Serb and a Christian. He brought the head of Constantine. The Sultan asked him whether he himself fighting with the Emperor? He answered that he only saw the corpse of the Emperor and cut it down before bringing it to the Sultan. The Sultan was so furious, and he ordered the soldier being beheaded for insulting the corpse of the Emperor. One of his soldier too in the beginning trying to vandalize the Church, and the Sultan nearly broke his head with the Chandelier for the insolent act.

After getting the permission from the Bishop, the process of de-imaging executed in the Cathedral and it is changed into a Jami Mosque. On Friday, Sultan Muhammad and Muslims prayed there. The first sermon is delivered there by Sheikh Ak Semsettin. On that day too, Sultan Muhammad swear that those who turned the Mosque into a Chruch again after the permission will be accursed by the G-d of the Mosque.

The name Constantinople was changed to Islam Bol means "Islamic City," and it became the third Capital of Ottoman Caliphate after Bursa and Edirne. Sultan Muhammad too invited the Bishop and important priests in the City as he wanted them to establish a separate council for their religion. All of the cost for their Churches maintenance will be taken care by the Caliphate. Istanbul remain in Ottoman Caliphate as an administration center, civilization, knowledge, and the glory of Islam for centuries... until it was officially ended by Mustafa Kemal Attaturk in 1924 AD.

Hagia Sophia was changed to a Church again by Attaturk through the pretext of a museum. The images being plastered again at the Dome. The manifesto of Refah political party in the election to bring back the function of the Mosque had stopped for a while because of the party was illegalized last year.

Answering Thinker questions, we have to break the answer into few layers. As for today, the problem is not about Islam vs West. Western civilians have nothing to do with the oppressions in certain countries, but the policy of certain Western countries might affect others. It is because of the opposition in values and when each other can't tolerate each other, the problem arise.

As for us in Asia region, not only Muslim opposed Western, but also non-Muslims such as in China and in India. And it is not because of racism. It is because of values. Western world had broke into our area around 18th-19th C and included us into their protectorate or maybe colonization. We are treated as we have no right on our own nations while we had been here the same like Western people established their kingdoms.

You have to check our history too. Why we have problem with Western World? Western World had brought here the enmity of Crusade Wars such as in the exploration of Portuguese around 15th C. We lived with our own values although Islam being embraced since 8th C. It came slowly and through economic relation. Not through war. When Portuguese came, say in Malacca kingdom, they brought their mission, Gospel, Gold, and Glory. In the beginning they are doing business, but later included us into their colonized land.

In order to have influence and for their own benefit in business, certain business company such as East Indies British Company or Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie had interfere in our kingdoms affair. Later their government being dragged to include us as their protectorate land. They brought in new immigrants and changing the demographic of our countries and practicing divide and rule policy in the colonized lands, but I wonder why the people in certain countries are furious and suspicious when Asian immigrants or African immigrants from the countries colonized living together with them or working in their countries? Yet the media of those Western countries playing the record of "Holy War," "Jihad" and Muslim = Terrorist while we in here still respecting Western people? Even you can come to our countries and being treated like a King in the immigration center while we as the citizen of a certain country too still being treated by our own authority as second class people, you can also live in our countries freely without being harrassed like poor Marwa among those who were harrassed, and coincidently, most of them are Muslims.

Myself as an example, I don't have any problem with non-Muslim in fact I respect them more than they respect me in our own country. I had experienced living in a majority Buddhist village, even my grandfather house is near to a Buddhist Temple. I also have few Christian friends from various ethnics and races. Even when I talked to Christian Arabs in my varsity from Syria or Lebanon, I still call them as Akh (brother). I would like to emphasize that Western media should not using inappropriate terms and equating others to a certain notorious claimants. We also should be aware about every aspects in each others. This will also show how open Westerners really are despite of various notorious accusations imposed to others including to Muslim. This is not to generate hate toward Western people, it is just reminding that we should be aware about others so that we may bridge good relationship and understanding.

Thank you, that’s all very interesting and I don’t have any great difference with what you say but it doesn’t answer my question (a question that brought me to study Islam in the first place).

I posted the question in this thread, giving the example of the recent bombing in Jakarta because I saw a lot of posts here from people of that region. My question was, with regards to the people who placed the bombs in the hotels in Jakarta, who did they hope to kill? And in general, those Muslims placing bombs who are they at war with? In asking the question I am not being flippant I really would like to know the answer.

Those people are mentally ill people. They thought that they had already serving the religious duty in fact those who were killed in the hotel are not only non-Muslims but also Muslims who work and stay there. Even if those people are non-Muslims, they are still human. Nobody support them even, we Muslims detest their act that only affect human life. The news is widely circulated, unlike of what had happened to Muslims like Marwa and few others being tyrannized by some people like Neo-Nazi groups in European area or in other areas.

In the first place too, the matter is still in investigation and we are just speculating about who are the bombers and behind the bombing event. It is best not to making quick assumption on those people or relating the bombing with Islam. Like Christians or others, we have many kind of people embracing Islam. Some with deep understanding about the religion since they were guided by G-d, some are people with faith and having religious knowledge that they cultivate step by step and gradually, some are born Muslims but living their life as non-believers, some had been living ungodly life but later finding some vacant space in their spiritual life but too bad they've found the wrong way or teacher or only looking at certain verses of Quran in choppy way like what had been posed by certain hatred web toward Islam so they understood that they are ordered to kill while actually they did not learn the history of revelation of certain verses, and many other kind of people.

Unjust To Relate It To Islam

JAKARTA 20 Julai - The Secretary of Muslim Community Forum, (FUI), M al-Khaththath said that the bombing incident of JW MArriot Hotel should not being attached to Muslim or the Presidential election that had just finished before.

"The bombing should not being attached to Muslim community and the Presidential election that had just passed this recent," he said as quoted by the Antara News Agency after a congregation prayer here, yesterday.

He said that, the Muslims in Indonesia have no access to the bombing matters, even to the installment of the bomb or the bombers themselves.

So, it is unjust if public are making speculations and attaching the bombing with Muslim community and Presidential election.

al-Khaththath further said, security officers should also executing their responsibility in exposing those planners of the bombing and what had happened on JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton Hotels which had killed nine souls and injured 50 other victims.

While, the Executives board of the Islamic Education Oraganization (PB Tarbiyah) said that violence is not Islamic way and the attack on those two hotels last Friday have no relation with Islam at all. - BERNAMA

Police Trying To Reconstruct The Suspect Face

JAKARTA 20 Julai - Indonesian Police are trying to reconstruct as suspect face today from the founding of the head of a bomber who had bombed two luxurious hotels in Jakarta last Friday in order to identify their identity.

Forensic job might lead to an important founding in the investigation of the suicidal bombing of the two hotels that had killed nine including two of the bombers.

One of them had targeted the attack on Westerner business groups during breakfast in Marriot that had killed three Australians including a diplomat and an executive from NZ.

More than 53 people were injured in the attack which is suspected had been supported by the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) who were also responsible in an attack in Bali and few other places since late 90's.

JI was inspired from al-Qaeda and have relationship with global groups who desired for a Muslim Caliphate nation in SEA including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Southern Philippines.

Police said, a bomb which was not exploded and left in a guest room of JW Marriot Hotel is the same with the explosive material used Bali bombing which had killed 202 people and also the same with the bomb founded in a raid of anti-JI on an a religious school in Central Java.

"It is from the same school. We also found materials, items, and the same method used to create bombs. It is their job, the same link, they are JI," said a police representative, Nanan Soekarna in a press conference yesterday.

He said that investigators had reconstructed the face of a head founded in one of the hotels, with visual image, that will be shown to the witness. - AFP

Muslims Are Living In The Philippines Southern Islands
Berita Harian (Daily News), Sep 15th 1989

According to the Islamic Affairs Research Institute, International Service School, American University, the number of Muslims in Southern Philippines are about 5.6% which is about 3.6 million people.

The situation of those Muslims in the Philippines are almost the same with those in Thailand, Eritrea, and India. They are called as Moro by the Spanish Conquistadors. Most of them live in Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan in the South of Philippines.

Muslim in the country are divided to four majority ethnic groups, which are the Maguindanaos who live in Cota Bato, Maranao Illanun (Lanao), Tausuq and Samal.

Islam blooms in rapidly in the country around 14th - 15th C, especially when Muslim missionaries preached in both Mindanao and Sulu Islands. Among those well-known Islamic missionaries are Kareem al-Makhdum and Shareef al-Hashem.

Before Spanish Conquistadors colonizing the Philippines in 1560, the country had first attracted the Portuguese. It was "founded" by Ferdinand Magellan who was said as also favored by the king of Spain, king Phillip II who reign in 1521, in order to get bountiful of spices in the region.

After that, Christian colonialists had made great efforts in evangelizing to the natives. A century after the arrival of the Spaniards, majority of the inhabitants especially in the North (Luzon) were successfully Christianized however they can not penetrate Southern area as those in South had faithfully attached to Islam.

Those in Southern Philippines too worked hard in defending the sanctity of their religion and dignity until few wars broke among them with the Spaniards and it continues when Spaniard wanted to grab Visayan Island from the Sultanate of Sulu.

However, Spaniards managed to subdue few provinces of Sulu and Mindanao. Beginning from that, the Spaniard colonization moves into Southern Philippines until the American arrival in 1898-1920. American Policy too is more to anti-Islamic policy. The policy had made those in Southern Philippines rebelled on the new regime. Among the battle with fire-arms between them and American Regime, are Bad Baho in Jolo (1906) and Bad Bangsak. Many Muslims were killed and martyred in the war.

During 1922-1945, Commonwealth tried to conduct monitoring which bring benefits to Muslim Southern Filipinos, but some leaders like Sultan Alauya Alontos, Dato Facondo Mandi, Haji Bato, and Haji Gholam Rasul wanted separate country from those majority Christian in the North.

Those leaders brought their demand to the Commonwealth and their demand was put under consideration. An assembly council was established and the members are locals who were elected representing their area.

The entrance of Christian Northern Filipinos into Southern Philippines region
had threatened the unity and the survival of Muslim Southern Filipinos. This happened due to their different way of life such as Christians rearing swine under their houses near Muslim area, and more than that, the lands of Muslim were taken by the government for export agriculture such as coco, rubber, and coconut.

In 1936, a rebel once again happened in Tasek Lanao as Muslims are unsatisfied with the presence of Northern Filipinos. Among the main reason is that the act of military who were all Christians robbing and broking into their houses. In 1941, another rebel happen.

The Philippines possess almost 90 ethnic languages, had gain independence in 1945. But Muslim in Southern Philippines had already facing problems since the era of Spaniard colonization. It was then made complicated by Marcos and Macapagal through the integration policy of Muslim with Christians which was executed by force through social and education.

Southern Filipinos rejected the policy with the intention to form a national sense of Filipinos oriented by the Western civilization and Christianity as they had already have their own way in the South. They tried to do all sort of things to gain their freedom with three big events happened in Mindanao and Sulu around 1969, 1971, and 1971.

In the first event that happened in Corregidor Island, health, scholarship, education opportunities and economy became the main issue that had made Muslim in Southern Philippines feel marginalized despite of their area became major contributor that boosting the economy in Philippines. Later it continued to the extent of a war.

After the WWII, the rebels that had happened since 60's had formed a group of trained guerilla in order to get autonomy status in Southern Philippines.

The Southern Philippines Independent Movement is not a secret anymore after May 1st, 1963 when the governor of Cota Bato, Datu Utang Mutakalam officialized the proclamation of Muslim Independent Movement establishment which aim for the establishment of Mindanao and Sulu Republic.

Other group is known as Moro National Independence Movement, lead by Nur Misuari and Abdul Khair, established in order to guarantee the security and the dignity of Muslim in Southern Philippines.

The Story On How Islam Reached Malabar (Kerala, South-West India)
Berita Harian (Daily News), Jan 13th 1989

Muslim of Malabar who were known as Moplas, is believed to be the first Muslim who live in the India sub-continent and they are among the descents of prophet's companions.

They sailed there with Arab merchants and visited the last king of Kerala who was known as Cheraman Perumazh. He was attracted to Muslims' attitude when they met him thus made him decided to embrace Islam and performing pilgrimage in Mecca.

During his way home, he passed away, near Shehar Moqalla port. Before that, he had sent a letter to the governor of Kadankallur region in 10th H (590 AD) ordering for facilities being provided to Muslims preaching Islam in the kingdom.

When they arrived in the Kerala shore, they received those facilities to preach and teach Islam including a place to build masjid.

Today, the first masjid built in Kadankallur still exist with traditional architecture. There are also other 13 mosques built around Kadankallur. Almost the whole Arakkel dynasty of Kerala embraced Islam.

The pattern of the architecture and the marbles of the mosque was brought by Malik Ben Dinar. The mosque became the proof that it was build in the first year of Hegira, maybe during the reign of Caliph Umar al-Khattab.

Silver coin written with "35 Hegira" possessed by Arakkel family and other written records kept too strengthening the evidence of Islam presence in Kerala during early Hegira years.

Researches of names, place of origin, and other hidden treasures excavated from archeological process tracing the relationship of Malabar coast with Arabs during the lifetime of prophet (pbuh).

Kerala is inhabited by 26 millions people and it is among populated states in India.

The provinces of Kerala coast are famous with port-cities such as Cochin, and Calicut, became a passage with a distance of 600 km stretching from north-south became the entrance for Roman, Arab, Portuguese, and British merchants who sailed there for black pepper which was also called as "black gold" during the first era of Christianity renaissance in Europe.

The strategic geographical location facing wide sea with wind blows straight from Arabian coast to Kerala had determines the development of trading.

The city of Calicut became the historical focus of Kerala history where it has developed ancient traditional relationship with Greece-Roman city-states which were linked through Arabian Sea.

The first Brahmin explorers had brought together with them Sanskrit language into Kerala. The Tamils of Kerala who accepted Sanskrit were known as Chentamezh. Later this people formed a distinct language which is known as Malayalam and now is recognized as the official state language in India.

Recently, golden coin founding had exposed the relationship of Malabar coast with Rome during the 5th and 6th C. In classical literature, especially in the prose form had shown that the first dynasty of Cheran kingdom (Kerala) exported fragrant spices, elephant tusks, monkey, and onion.

The historical background of Kerala and Malabar Island began to change when they face new era of the distance trade when an expedition of Portuguese explorer under Vasco Da Gama arrived there in 1484.

The polite attitude of Keralites and their openness toward foreigners in trade for few centuries had been broken by the tactics and the strategies of trade practiced by Portuguese.

Due to the arrival of Portuguese to the Malabar coast, it became the field of race for European nations controlling the trade of black pepper and getting influences from it.

The Portuguese and the Dutch had managed to monopolize the trade of black pepper in order to chase the Moplas away from the market where previously they had succeed in the spice trade.

Muslim inhabitants live in spotted areas but most of them live in Malappuram province near Malabar coast. There are few mosques, educational institutions and complexes funded by those who live outside the Malayalee coast.

An Islamic preaching council known as Munathul Islam was established in 1900 in Ponni and another one is Islamic Preaching Center which emphasizes on the basic Islamic knowledge to reverts.

Other than that, Muslims too involved in local politics scene through Indian United Indian Muslim League (UIML) which had also taking part in the formation of Pakistan in 1947.

Their 19 representatives were chosen to join the United Democratic Party. One of them is Abu Kadeer Kutty Naka who held the post of Vice Minister of Kerala.

My question was, with regards to the people who placed the bombs in the hotels in Jakarta, who did they hope to kill? And in general, those Muslims placing bombs who are they at war with? In asking the question I am not being flippant I really would like to know the answer.
Terrorism of this sort can't win any wars particularly against a very very large (population wise) state. Its designed to send a message to the gov't, particularly in light of the election and as one freelance journo said " it was a message from JI that we are still here"

I must confess that I have never felt as bad about religious persecution as about racial persecution or persecution against gays, etc. It could be because religions have historicaly been the persecutors instead of persecutees or it could be because religion is a choice whereas these other things, not so much. I do realize that all persecution is bad and should stop. But for some reason I'm more torn up about racial persecution.

Tolerance, respect, and care are among the keys to peace :statisfie. I totally agree with you that any persecution should be stopped, but I don't see that religion is persecutors. It is the people who embrace the religion that persecute due to their selfishness. It is not rooted from religion but from their very own selves.

People are oppressed. It is sad, but truth. Eventually, I am willing to bet, Muslims will not be oppressed and some other group will be. I do not think we will ever have a time when their isn't some group or another being oppressed.

tolerance is a two way street - also it is it is better to give than to receive.

So i might humbly suggest that if there is any credibility in the report about Abu Bakar's latest offering noted in the news item on the undermentioned website , then he is not doing his bit to spread worldwide tolerance and because he is famous in the western world , westerners are likely to take more notice of hm than some one more sensible and moderate that is not well known .

Abu Bakar Bashir's warning: the terror will not end

People who introduce themselves by their sexual practices are ALWAYS going to be looked down upon, it isn't socially, morally or religiously acceptable more so when done in a lewd and public manner ... Has nothing whatsoever to do with persecution .. it is simple common sense that is lost to many!

you don't see, the heterosexual day parade, the heterosexual under clothes being paraded by heterosexuals on said parades in front of children and houses of worship. Heterosexuals don't put books in kindergarten explaining why their sexual practices are acceptable. Heterosexuals don't apply to jobs or protest not getting jobs based on the preferred missionary position or the advanced Kama sutra ... if heterosexuals practiced openly the homosexual protests and so-called maltreatments they'll be met with the same censorship.

If you keep your sexual practices to where it is appropriate and shut up about it, and you won't have any problems.
I can't stand hypocrisy of homos and their sympathizers and secret admirers...

That has more to do with your capacity to understand and process information written. Tolerance doesn't equate with approval.
Else everyone here would be guilty of something that you would deem 'allocated to some intolerant nuts'.. by same token we can conclude that you are hateful toward Muslims? which in your case you probably honestly are, but for the sake of this analogy let's pretend.. if you are not Muslim, there must be something about Islam that you don't like, else why would you not embrace it as a religion?
I don't want to go so far as comparing religion with any base sexual act..
Homosexuality a matter of deviant preference that should stay where all sexual acts remain whether homo or hetero folks usually introduce themselves by their humanity not their bedroom action! It isn't particularly wise get people's attention to your lewdness and then cry that they are 'intolerant' about it!

now stop! and go make comments about someone else's posts.. it is revolting how much of my time you waste on nonesense!

I found out from my observations that, ideologies like Marxism, Socialism, Atheism, Secularism, Liberalism, Hedonism and etc persecute religious life more than religious life persecutes them. There are many evidences proving this. Such things like homosexuality or random sex is now hitting our Muslim society too. I can see some of my friends who are Muslims too seem to favor such life. I'm so sad that Muslim youths today have no inner shield and are not trying to protect themselves through revelation knowledge and prophet's tradition : ( I have a very hard time trying to help my friends going back to their Islamic root in which they are not proud or grateful to anymore. My course-mates and lecturers too are all into Hedonism although most of them are Muslims. They already persecute me when I can't live my religious right in the so-called freedom that had been implied by certain parties.

Facing 40 lashes for wearing trousers

A Sudanese court has adjourned the case of a woman journalist facing 40 lashes for wearing "indecent" trousers, with 10 women already whipped for similar offences against Islamic law.

The judge deferred the case to next Tuesday after Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein, who works for the left-wing Al-Sahafa newspaper and for the media department of the United Nations Mission in Sudan, waived the immunity given to UN workers.

"The court gave Lubna the choice either to accept immunity from the UN or to waive that and go on with the trial," her lawyer Nabil Adeeb said.

"I wish to resign from the UN, I wish this court case to continue," Hussein told a packed courtroom before the judge adjourned the case to August 4.

Hussein, who wears a hijab or Islamic headscarf, faces 40 lashes and a fine of 250 Sudanese pounds ($US100) if found guilty.

She wore the same clothes to court as when she was arrested - moss-green slacks with a loose floral top and green headscarf.

She waved defiantly to crowds as she left the court.

Hussein said she was at a restaurant on July 3 when police came in and ordered 13 women wearing trousers to follow them to the police station.

Ten of the women were summoned to a police station two days later and were lashed 10 times each, according to Hussein.

The women whipped earlier this month included some from animist and Christian south Sudan where the Muslim north's Islamic or sharia law does not apply.

Scores of people crammed into the courthouse to hear the ruling, many of them female supporters - some of them also wearing trousers out of solidarity.

Some held up placards on the street outside. "A woman is not for flogging," read one in Arabic.

"We are here to support Lubna, because this treatment of women is arbitrary and not correct," said Zuhal Mohammed Elamin, a law professor in Khartoum. "Women should not be humiliated in this manner."

Police have also cracked down on another woman journalist, Amal Habbani, after she wrote an article condemning Hussein's treatment.

Habbani wrote an article for Ajrass Al-Horreya newspaper following the arrests entitled Lubna, a case of subduing a woman's body.

"I am waiting for a decision," Habbani said after she was charged with defaming police, a charge which can carry a fine of up to several hundred thousand dollars.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said the charge against Habbani stemmed from her claim that Hussein's arrest was "not about fashion but a political tactic to intimidate and terrorise opponents".

Unlike many other Arab countries, particularly in the Gulf, women have a prominent place in Sudanese public life. Nevertheless, human rights organisations say some of Sudan's laws discriminate against women.

In December 2007, British teacher Gillian Gibbons faced 40 lashes after being convicted of insulting religion by allowing her pupils to name a teddy bear Mohammed.

Gibbons, 54 at the time, was eventually sentenced to 15 days in prison but was pardoned by Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir following the mediation of two Muslim members of Britain's upper house of parliament.
