While now many people are talking about boycotting China's product, I would like to invite brothers and sisters promoting products produced by only Muslim Companies so that we know that actually we can co-operate with each other in the term of business and trade. I regret when hearing my sisters talking about her experience when she worked in Saudi Arabia. She said that Saudi Arabia that we admired as the land of prophet and his companions too can't escape from Israelis product. Even they hired Catholic Filipino nurses and non-Muslim Western workers in their government hospital.
Where the blessings of G-d in the land of prophet (pbuh) and his companions will go to? They are used to oppress us! There are many other Muslims in Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Thailand, and other Muslims who may also coming from Western world applied, but where are they in Saudi hospitals. Even my sister said that a Finnish muslim sister who had just embracing Islam too was insulted for wearing Hijab while working in the hospital by a Catholic Filipino head nurse. Don't they realize that? My sister too received bad treatment while working in the hospital while she is a Muslim the same religion with the people of Saudi. I had experienced other Muslims like Bangladeshi workers in Saudi or other Saudis calling Muslim ladies from Malaysia as Siti Ra7ma (prostitutes) and looking down to us Muslims from SEA. They don't even know that we had valiantly defended Islam since our ancestors had abandoned Buddhism-Hinduims to embrace Islam around 8th C with the guidance from Allah!!! It's not surprising at all when Muslims are easily oppressed around the world when they have no sentiment at all to their religion!!!
I can be narrow-minded and some liberal thinking people can say to me that there are also Muslims in Israel or in China, might be they too involved in Israeli or Chinese factories, and actually I know few Chinese Muslim factories but we don't know whether they hired Communist workers as their government is Communist. Now, I want to ask them back, why are they co-operating with non-Muslims in crushing their own selves while many other countries with majority Muslim population can also work on themselves providing the services and products needed? Now let us trading information about the products that we know and maybe we can introduce them to other Muslims so that we do not be like what happened in Saudi and in my country.

HPA INDUSTRIES
The only Muslim native company in Malaysia with factories of "GMP" standard since 1997. The company has the speciality in local herbal ingredients and has links of specialized stockists who are skilled in holistic treatment.
INTRODUCTION
The company is established by Mr. Haji Ismail Ben Haji Ahmad who came from Mata Ayer Village in Perlis, Malaysia. In September 1987, he had run a small business known as al-Wahida Traditional Herbal and Medicine shop. After 8 years and with the knowledge of herbal medicine inherited from his ancestors, he then established HPA Industries Enterprise in July 15th, 1995.
Throughout their experiences, HPA has the ability to carve the history of success and still working as ever today. HPA is a business with full potential, achievements, and success. The main objective of the company establishment is to expose about the traditional herbal and spices as the source of medicine to the publics and they could be the alternative treatment for society beside enhancing the quality of health, experiencing prosperity through health and enriching the life.
HPA industries enterprise is established by a farmer with vast experience in herbal field in Malaysia. He is Haji Ismail Ahmad and now the owner of the industries with the position of first management director. His vice management director is his wife, Hajjah Norhayati Bente Ahmad.
FACTORIES
HPA enterprise recently possessing few modern factories and herbal farms as wide as 500 acres to make sure that they have sufficient supplies of herbs.
The company's factory is located at B1 & B2, Lot 29, Jalan Industri, Kawasan Perindustrian Kuala Perlis, Perlis under the Malaysian Development Bank scheme. Other than that, another HPA's factory is operated in Lot 5 & 6, Kawasan MIEL Jejawi Fasa II, Jalan Jejawi Sematang, Perlis and at Lot 1 & 2, IKS KEDA Napoh, 06100 Jitra, Kedah. Other new factory is operated in Gandul, Jakarta, Indonesia. The workers of HPA factory now are more than 200 people.
In the earlier stage, the pharmaceutical industry of HPA only operated at the owner house. However, due to the diligence efforts shown by him, the bank had agreed to let him renting a building to operate the manufacturing of products. In the mean time, HPA had made an agreement with the National Pharmaceutical Bureau (BPFK) to get permission in the arrangement of factory plan. Finally, when the permission had been granted by the bureau, The Development Bank provided a loan in about RM 222, 000 for him to buy the processing machines and permitting him to build another additional block for HPA in the factory site.
In 11 September 1997, HPA factories were recognized with Good Management Practice (GMP) certificate by the Malaysian Ministry of Health. WIth the new status, HPA has the opportunities to market the products abroad.
HPA had bought 4 lots of factories with the value of 1.4 million in Jejawi Industrial area. It is 5 km away from Kangar, which is the capital of Perlis state. They can produce more products with the factories. The facilities in the factory is estimated about RM 2.6 million.

Before I forgot, what HPA means? HPA is from Herba Penawar Al-Wahida (Al-Wahida Curing Herbal).
Haji Ismail Ahmad who established the company is a graduate student of botanical agriculture science from Malaysian Agriculture University, Malaysia (UPM). He had once being an officer in Farmers Association Board and he also has the knowledge about herbals inherited from his grandfather, who was a herbal specialist in Perlis of Northern Malaysia.
The HPA company was established to support the necessity of Muslim community. HPA Industries Enterprise was established in July 15th (1st Ramadhan). In 1997, Al-Wahida Marketing was established under HPA Industries Enterprise. It became a sub-company which managing the marketing of the HPA products manufactured through Multi-Level Marketing. Few Muslim graduates too joined the company and they are from various fields such as accounting, economy, computer science, agriculture, business management and others. All 200 workers of HPA are Muslims and HPA has actually providing the source of incomes to 200 workers family member. It is the only Muslim MLM company owned by Muslim and had going through 10 years till now. HPA Industries too own factories both in Kedah and Perlis.
The products manufactured received health recognition from the Ministry of Health in Malaysia. Those products passed the inspection of National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau which is under the Ministry of Health. They passed all 4 tests which are the microbe test, steroid test, heavy iron test, and dissolving test.
The factories of HPA is awarded with the "Good Management Practice" recognition by the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau, the Ministry of Health. The quality control is ensured and strict hygiene of the products is assured.
The company too manufacturing products based from Sharia. The products are clean, effective, and touched only by Muslims as the workers involved in the process are all Muslims. The herbal products too do not leave any side effects and they can be used by kids above one year old. All of the workers are obliged to perform wudhu' before entering the factory and before starting their work. Every morning (around 10.00 a.m), the workers will have to pray Dhuha in congregation followed by simple Tazkira. Marketing plan is ensured as not opposing the Shara'. It is checked and referred to the Ulamas and ensured as just, without doubt, and without any trap. It is also recognized as the Sharia based MLM by Indonesian Muslim Consultation Bureau. HPA reject Riba' and the company do not make any loan from any conventional financial institution. Ingredients, capsules, and gels used are ensured as 100% Halal. They are manufactured by Halal Gel Enterprise. All of HPA products are certified by HALAL CERTIFICATE from the Department of Islamic Development in Malaysia. Every month, HPA will donate half of the benefit gained by the company to madrasah, tahfiz schools, and orphanage.
HPA too introduced the JAWI medicational concept. It is an approach based from the source of Ilahiyya and Alamiyya (Herbal). HPA is own an institution for education and research which is known as "JAWI Medicinal Research Center" to train their own traditional herbal medicine practitioners. HPA is not only manufacturing herbal products, but also providing courses on treating diseases such as al-Hijama Bekam*, acupuncture, reflexology massage, chiropractic, and limphatic massage.

A Muslim manufactured product called Radix Fried Chicken (RFC) from HPA Industries Enterprise. I had seen the restaurant there in Sungai Petani but never had any chance to get to the restaurant. It seems like KFC, but this one is owned by Muslim based company.

I heard that they are planning or already expanded their wing in Saudi Arabia or in UAE. They already have the stockists in Indonesia. I also heard about Saba Islamic Media providing English reference materials about Islam there in Indonesia, it seems like a service-business.

Cool, that is a nice move. I had also seen an Indonesian Toko Buku (Bookshop) in Masjid India area. They provided religious books such as those written by Buya Hamka from Indonesia and actually they are useful for Muslim Malay readers too :D.

Faiza Bawumi Sayyed Ahmad - A businesswoman who sells FAIZA rice
If it is the things favored by someone, the age is not the boundary for the success. This is proved by the owner of Faiza Rice Supplier Company, Faiza Bawumi Sayyed Ahmad.
When most of the women at her age are resting at home, Faiza is busy planning the strategies to strengthen the position of her rice business in this country. Faiza not only being the company affairs' director, but she is also working hard in ensuring that the operation of the company being executed well.
This lady is involved in the factory project owned by Faiza Marketing Enterprise evaluated RM14 million in Sri Gading, Batu Pahat. The factory will be build in the near future, said Faiza Bawumi to Utusan Malaysia. The spirit of business in this lady who was originated from Egypt had been in herself since her childhood time as her father was an owner of a restaurant.
She never thought that her experience as a cashier for her father's restaurant determines her to be serious in business. According to Faiza, her success today is not easily gained but she has to go through hardships and challenges and now she had been in the business for 43 years.
Faiza came to Malaysia in 1964 following her husband. She can't just stay at home doing nothing, so she made some money through sewing and cross-titches beside selling kitchen goods. Faiza then made spices for curry and packing the spices in packages with the brand Bunga Raya (Hibiscus). She sends her products to the shops.
“Before I sell rice, I have to go to every house and asking them whether they want to buy the rice if I sell it," she said. She also have to get the liaison as a wholesaler. She sells various kinds of rice including Ponni (South India), Basmathi (Pakistan), Fragrant Rice, and Thai Sticky Rice.
In 9 years, the rice business of her company received warm attentions by the buyers rather than only known in Johore before. The rice with Faiza brand too expanded the wings in Malacca and Kuala Lumpur.

Brahim's is looking forward for UAE markets and regional markets

DUBAI, 25 Feb (Bernama) -- Dewina Food Industries Sdn Bhd, the manufacturer of food with the brand, "Brahim's", recently is seeking opportunities in UAE and gradually trying to market the products in other gulf countries and African continent.
The company feels that this the suitable time to penetrate the market in the gulf region, said Mohammad Fazil Othman, the marketing manager of Dewina Trading Enterprise, who took part in the food and beverages exhibition of Gulfood in 2009.
"We are also searching for suitable business partners to be the suppliers of our products in Dubai, Gulf countries, North Africa and other parts of Africa," he further said to Bernama.
Mohammad Fazil too said that Dewina Trading is trying to penetrate the market and saying that it will be no problem for them if the customers wanted to make small purchase of the products of Brahim's brand.
"Say that if a customer made a purchase of 200 carton, that is considered as good enough. But, we will be more than glad if they purchase a contenna or more than that.
He said that, "The important step for us is to get the way into the market in the region."Langkah paling penting bagi kita ialah mendapatkan kemasukan ke pasaran ini," kata beliau di sini.
Mohamad Fazil said that Dubai and UAE is the ideal places for them to start business because most of the Gulf countries fully depend on foreign work force and those people have not enough time to cook for themselves.
"Many of them had brought their wives or their family. The goods here could be quite expensive. That is the reason that we feel there is a special market place for our products." He also said that Brahim's products will be introduced in the form of gravy heated and ready to be served.
"Brahim's representing a good alternative because our products are delicious and involving the simple preparation and only taking short time to be served. It is very convenient." Mohammad further said.
About 46 companies from Malaysia and Government agencies joined the exhibition and they were supported by the Malaysian Foreign Trade Development Board for Gulfood 2009 which will end tomorrow.

TAMIN TRADING AND ENTERPRISE
The story of Kicap Tamin began in 1951 when the late Tuan Haji Mohd. Tamin (left) produced it on a small scale in Batu Gajah, Perak.
With a capital of just RM10 but lots of determination, Tuan Haji Mohd. Tamin's cottage industry produced about 700 bottles a day with the help of his family members. Even though the production was small, cleanliness, quality and taste were not compromised. Ingredients like soya beans, wheat flour and others were carefully selected and combined to ensure the fine quality of the sauce.
After a year, the demand for Kicap Tamin grew beyond expectations, The product were by then well known amongst the housewives and consumers in the kampung vacinity. Kampung children who travelled or migrated to the cities also brought with them Kicap Tamin, thereby introducing people in the cities to the delicious and delightful taste of the sauce.
To meet the increasing demand, Tuan Haji Mohd. Tamin stepped up productions to 3,500 bottles per day. The popularity of the sauce and the increasing demand eventually prompted Tuan Haji Mohd. Tamin to expand his business by building a factory in Enggor, not far from the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak. More staff were also employed to help increase the production to 9,000 bottles a day. Kicap Tamin were by now marketed in the whole Peninsula Malaysia.

I had just attended a meeting of our relatives from the same ancestor in Malaysia. We are linked to 2000 people in a big hall while there are many others who can't attend the meeting for some reasons. We don't know each other while we actually sharing the same ancestor and faith. We can just live as a community if we strengthening our silat-ur-ra7eem in the name of Allah and witnessing prophet Muhammad as the final prophet.

Errrr, this one is a bit exotic and seafood. I don't know if people love this but for me it is not new although it is not my daily flavor enriching sauce. I will just introduce this as produced and packaged by SEAn Muslim, so if anyone interested with exotic foods you know where to find and safely consuming them without any doubt. Introducing Budu or Achovy Sauce.
It is popular in East Malaysia and South Thai region (น้ำปลาฝรั่ง/Nam Pla Prang). They use to have this with a dish called Nasi Kerabu or Khao Yam. Nasi Kerabu/Khao Yam is a kind of Veggie Rice but you still can have it with Fish Crackers, Fried Fish, Beef, or Chicken. It is a kind of food served by Southern Muslim Thai and also Eastern Coast Muslim Malays in Malaysia. In Malaysia, the anchovy sauce is produced by local Muslim and they pack it themselves. No non-Muslim produce this as far as I know.

From humble beginnings as a staple during the Japanese Occupation, tapioca is fast gaining fame as a snack in many countries abroad, learns SHANTI GUNARATNAM.

IT is a local delicacy that has been given a “new lease of life” and infused with a variety of flavours.
In the world of calorie conscious consumers, the more popular potatoes are now making way for the humble tapioca, the local root vegetable, which is packed with anti-oxidants.
From Kuala Lumpur to London, snack lovers are digging into bowls after bowls of tapioca chips.
Surprisingly, foreigners are consuming more tapioca chips compared to Malaysians.
And this Christmas, don’t be surprised if you see tapioca chips served along side turkey at many British homes.
“We have taken tapioca for granted, but the Westerners already know about its nutritional value and are consuming them more,” says Haji Sheikh Ahmad Dusuki, the managing director of Muslim Best Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd which exports some 10 containers of tapioca chips into England regularly.
Besides England, Sheikh Ahmad’s “Tappi Chips” are also popular in Canada, Ireland and China.
Our Asean neighbours, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam and Cambodia are also chowing down these chips by the container loads.
In Malaysia, these chips are available in many hypermarkets as well as at the Airport Shoppe at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport where it is “flying” fast off the shelves.
“Many foreigners have mistaken the tapioca chips for potato chips. When you see them eating the chips, they have puzzled looks on their faces because they are wondering which of the two chips they are consuming.”
The Big Picture
According to Sheikh Ahmad, the snack industry worldwide is worth some four billion Euros and they see a huge potential in tapioca chips.
Each canister of tapioca chips is currently retailing between RM6.50 and RM8.30.
“We started making these chips two years ago at our factory in Kelantan. Mardi helped us a lot with research and development because we knew the growth potential of tapioca chips.
“Selling the chips at KLIA is the best thing we have done for our product because the mileage it has brought in terms of branding purposes,” says Sheikh Ahmad who is currently working on introducing new flavours for his tapioca chips.
Some of the new flavours he is looking into include Jalapeno and banana.
Local Favourites Flying High
If you think the Airport Shoppe only stocks fast food, think again.
They have gone local by selling acar buah (RM5 per bottle), pickled chillies and lime (RM5 per pack), rojak sauce (RM5), cincalok (RM2.70) and belacan (RM2).
The biggest buyers of these items are often foreigners.
Surprised? Don’t be, because many of them have learnt to eat these local delicacies when holidaying or residing in Malaysia. On their way back home, they buy these Malaysian favourites at the Airport Shoppe.
“The Indians love the pickled chillies and lime which they often consume with the many types of Indian bread or even rice,” says Zulpakah Hamzah of Zentech Trading, the maker and supplier of these products.
Zulpakah has taken the small family run business into a commercial success when he ventured out of his hometown in Sungai Rambai in Malacca into hypermarkets, retail outlets and the airport more than one year ago.
Everything that is on the shelves is made at home by his wife and relatives based on recipes handed down to them by their mothers and aunts.
In Malacca, Acar Buah Mak Jenah is well-known.
“We started off making acar buah to be served at weddings and that is how we started in the early years. As the demand grew for the acar, we decided to commercialise it.
“The family has worked hard to make Acar Buah Mak Jenah a household name and we are now working harder to take it international,” says Zulkpakah.
Monthly, some 60 bottles of acar buah are sold at the airport.
The acar is interestingly often eaten with sandwiches by foreigners.

I don't want this idea being wasted so I put it here for sharing. I hope Muslims all over the world and nations could take heed too from this news. We need to establish our own Universities whether in our nations or in the country where you live to make sure that we depend on our own feet and excel in education or academic in more deep meaning. We should establish back our Egypt and Andalusia, there is no time for procrastination!!!
This could also stimulate our own economy! Any related news from your country is appreciated, share with us about the products, companies, and etc here, please...please...please. We need co-operation at least information to enhance our economy wherever we are so that we are not only talking to boycott this and that but also know where to reach for the practice.

ESTABLISH MORE ISLAMIC UNIVERSITIES
KUALA LUMPUR 16th July - Government determines Muslims to establish more Islamic Universities in the country as to make sure that more Muslim thinkers and scholars with balanced Dunyawi and Ukhrawi knowledge being born.
The vice minister of higher education, Saifuddin Abdullah said that this step is crucial because Muslims need references written by Muslim scholars ourselves to solve various problems arise.
According to him, we are still lack of Islamic based reading and written materials and this had made us facing problems in making researches and references. We can't only depend on non-Muslim materials.
"Muslim Ummah in this country are still searching for ideal reference materials to solve problems and forming ideas in solving social problems faced by Muslim teenagers today.
It is hoped that the establishment of Islamic Universities and Educational Institution based in Islam could help boosting the rise of scholarship of Muslim community in various fields such as in religious studies and Islamic Law studies, technical knowledge, science and maths, linguistics, and others," he said in his speech delivered in the opening ceremony of the International Islamic University College Expo and Festival in conjunction to the college's 21st convocation today.
According to him, the Islamic approach is important to form good akhlaq in students selves and ensuring them to be the thinkers, reference, and models for future generation.

SCIENTIFIC DATA IS NEEDED TO SUPPORT THE CLAIM

Too bad that a country with biodiversity richness is still not explored in whole by the scientists (where are our Muslim scientists local and from other Muslim nations?We need their participation). Many that can be done to bring the local herbs into international market especially the far developed countries (I expect that we do that among ourselves first) as among the alternative way in medical world.
To penetrate the market abroad, especially in the far developed countries, we need scientific data to support the effectiveness of our herbal products as what had been done by traditional herbal specialists and practicioners.
In far developed countries, they are very cautious with the medicines taken and they usually will be looking for the scientific data to ensure the effectiveness of certain medicine and to make sure that it is safe to be consumed.
For the first time in our country's history, a biotechnology company had succesfully produced a complete data about the toxicity of the Queen of Herbs, Kacip Fatimah (Labisia Pumilia).
The chief executive of the company, Dr. Rajen M. said that the support given by the government in the form of grant is appreciated.
"Although the data is given priority, we will still returning it back to the public for their benefits," he said during the interview in the launching of the data website day, in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, this recent.
Kacip Fatimah is an endemic item in this region especially in the South of Malaysian Peninsula, even the scientific name of the herb "Labisia" was taken from the name of a town in Johor in South Malaysian Peninsula, which is Labis town.
The herb was said as having a long history and was named after the name of prophet Muhammad (pbuh) daughter, Fatima.
Although Kacip Fatima is popular in the market among local Malay consumers, it is still difficult penetrating International market.
"International market need scientific data to support the claim on the effectiveness of the local herb," said Rajen.
Thus Holista Biotech had co-operated with the Integrative Medical Institute of India in Jammu which is an oldest and largest herbal institute in India.
The institute too had been in agreement with the University of Mississipi, in the US to ease the process of certification by the Food and Drugs Association (FDA), US.
The toxicity data had shown that Kacip Fatimah is safe to be consumed for human daily needs.
The research too can be used by other companies and the fund that should be used for the research can also be applied on the development of the herb.
While, the chief executive of Biotech Corp. Iskandar Mizal Mahmood expressed his pride with the initiative efforts of a company which had reached the stage of BioNexus.
"The research is hoped to help Kacip Fatimah being developed as a product marketed in both local and international market." Iskandar said.
He also hope that what had been done by Holista Biotech will also inspire other BioNexus company in conducting researches about other local herbs.
The research too had sparked innovations and development in herbal field, it could also be an important field the national biotech policy.
Dr. Rajen said that they still have other three more local herbs to be in research and data collecting.

History of Islamic Banking in Malaysia
Before the re-emergence of the Islamic financial system, the Muslims throughout the world has only conventional financial system to fulfill their financial needs. The Islamic resurgence in the late 1960's and 1970's has initiated the call for a financial system that allows Muslim to transact in a system that is in line with their religious beliefs. The Islamic banking system involves a social implication which is necessarily connected with the Islamic order itself, and represents a special characteristic that distinguished Islamic banks from other banks based on other philosophies. In exercising all its banking or developmental activities, the Islamic bank takes into prime consideration the social implications that may be brought by any decision or action taken by the bank. Profitability, despite its importance and priority, is not the sole criterion or the prime element in evaluating the performance of Islamic bank, since they have to match both the material and social objectives that would serve the interests of the community as a whole and help achieve their role in the sphere of social mutual guarantee. Social goals are understood to form an inseparable element of the Islamic financial system that cannot be dispensed with or neglected.
As the need to have an Islamic financial system was vital and immediate, Muslim scholars had taken the effort to embark on the development of Islamic financial system. This had led to the establishment of Islamic Development Bank in 1974 followed by the Islamic Bank of Dubai, the first Islamic commercial bank in 1975. BIMB carries out banking business similar to other commercial banks, but along the principles of Syari'ah. The bank grants financing facilities such as working capital financing under Al-Murabahah (cost-plus), house financing under Bai' Bithaman Ajil (deferred payment sale), leasing under Al-Ijarah (leasing) and project financing under Al-Musyarakah (profit and loss sharing). BIMB had grown tremendously since its inception. It was listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on 17 January 1992. BIMB's total assets rose from RM325.5 million in 1984 to RM10.12 billion in 2000. Presently, the bank's services can be obtained from its 82 branches throughout the country.

Before the re-emergence of the Islamic financial system, the Muslims throughout the world has only conventional financial system to fulfill their financial needs. The Islamic resurgence in the late 1960's and 1970's has initiated the call for a financial system that allows Muslim to transact in a system that is in line with their religious beliefs. The Islamic banking system involves a social implication which is necessarily connected with the Islamic order itself, and represents a special characteristic that distinguished Islamic banks from other banks based on other philosophies. In exercising all its banking or developmental activities, the Islamic bank takes into prime consideration the social implications that may be brought by any decision or action taken by the bank. Profitability, despite its importance and priority, is not the sole criterion or the prime element in evaluating the performance of Islamic bank, since they have to match both the material and social objectives that would serve the interests of the community as a whole and help achieve their role in the sphere of social mutual guarantee. Social goals are understood to form an inseparable element of the Islamic financial system that cannot be dispensed with or neglected.

Takaful Insurance Malaysia
ISLAM & INSURANCE
As the essence of insurance could be seen in the system of mutual help in relation to the custom of blood money under the Arab tribal custom, Muslim jurists generally accepted that the concept of insurance does not contradict with the Shariah. In fact, the principle of compensation and group responsibility was accepted by Islam and the Holy Prophet. Muslim jurists acknowledged that the basis of shared responsibility in the system of `aqila', as practiced between Muslims of Mecca (muhajirin) and Medina (ansar) laid the foundation of mutual insurance.
As a complete religion, the teaching of Islam encompasses the essence of peace, economic well-being and development of the Muslim at the individual, family social, state and `ummah' levels.
To illustrate the importance of this relationship in a life of a Muslim, Islam calls for the protection of certain basic rights, viz.: -
* The right to protect the Religion.
* The right to protect the life.
* The right to protect dignity/honour.
* The right to protect the property.
* The right to protect the mind.
It is also a generally accepted view that Islamic insurance was first established in the early second century of the Islamic era. This was the time when Muslim Arabs started to expand their trade to India, Malay Archipelago and other countries in Asia. Due to long journeys/voyages, they often had to incur huge losses because of mishaps and misfortunes or robberies along the way. Based on the Islamic principle of mutual help and cooperation in good and virtuous acts, they got together and mutually agreed to contribute to a fund before they started their long journey. The fund was used to compensate anyone in the group who suffered losses through any mishap. In fact the Europeans copied this, which was later known as marine insurance.
In view of the above as well as the real need for insurance cover, Muslim jurists looked further into the Islamic system of insurance. Their conclusion was that insurance in Islam should be based on the principles of mutuality and cooperation. On the basis of these principles, Islamic system of insurance embodies the elements of shared responsibility, joint indemnity, common interest, solidarity, etc. According to the jurists this concept of insurance is acceptable in Islam because,
* the policyholders would cooperate among themselves for their common good;
* every policyholder would pay his subscription in order to assist those of them who need assistance;
* it falls under the donation contract which is intended to divide losses and spread liability according to the community pooling system;
* the element of uncertainty will be eliminated insofar as subscription and compensation are concerned;
* it does not aim at deriving advantage at the cost of other individuals.
The generally accepted view of the Muslim Jurists is that the operation of the conventional insurance as an exchange transaction under a buy and sell agreement does not in its present form conform to the rule and requirements of the Shariah as it embodies the following three elements :-
al-Gharar
There is the element of al-Gharar (unknown or uncertain factors in the operation of a contract) in both the life and general insurance policies. This arises due to the uncertainty of the subject matter of the contract or `ma'qud'alaih' of which one of the basic rules of contract in Islam is that the ma'qud'alaih must be clear. In such a contract the insured or the policyholder agrees to pay a certain sum of premium and in turn the insurance company guarantees to pay a certain sum of compensation (sum insured) in the event of a catastrophe or disaster. But the insured or the policyholder is not informed, for example, of how the amount of the compensation that the company will pay him is to be derived nor is he certain of the amount.
In addition, any form of contract which is lopsided in favour of one party at the expense and unjust loss to the other is also classified as Gharar. This is prevalent in both the life and general insurance policies. In the former, for example the loss of premium suffered by the policyholder if he would have to cancel his policy before the policy acquires the forfeiture status. Similarly the "double-standard" condition of charging customary short period in general insurance if the policyholder is responsible for the termination of the policy whilst a proportional refund of premium is applicable if the insurance company terminates the cover.
al-Maisir
There is the element of al-Maisir (or gambling) which arises as a consequence of the presence of al-Gharar, in particular in the case of life insurance. When a policyholder dies before the end of the period of his insurance policy after paying only part of the premium, for example, his dependents will receive a certain sum of money which the policyholder in the first place has not been informed and has no knowledge of how and from where it is to be derived.
al-Riba
There is the practice of al-Riba (or interest) and other related practices in the investment activities of the conventional insurance companies which contravene the rules of the Shariah.

'Pak-Qatar' to provide Takaful to Meezan customers
Meezan Bank Ltd and Pak-Qatar Family Takaful Ltd have signed an agreement whereby all customers of Meezan Banks Housing Finance (Easy Home) will be provided with Shariah-Compliant Life Takaful Coverage. Irfan Siddiqui President and CEO Meezan Bank Ltd and P. Ahmed CEO Pak-Qatar Family Takaful Ltd. signed the Takaful (Islamic insurance) Agreement at a ceremony on Tuesday.
According to the agreement, all housing finance customers of Meezan Bank will be provided comprehensive Takaful that will cover not only life but also accidental and natural disability. Moreover, the premium for the first year will be paid by the bank which is to be adjusted later.
The insurance penetration in Pakistan is only 0.3 per cent of its total GDP, which means just 10 to 15pc families are opting out this facility, while in developing countries 60 to 70pc families go for this.

As a consequence of the currency crisis in Asia, in the first part of 1997, then Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir bin Mohamad proposed introduction of Islamic gold dinar as currency for international trade in the Muslim world. It was intended to replace the United States dollar and, as a gold-based currency, provide a medium of exchange more stable than the dollar. Mahathir announced that Malaysia was to start using the dinar in mid-2003, but when in 2003 Abdullah Ahmad Badawi replaced him as Prime Minister of Malaysia, this idea was halted.

On the 20 September 2006, Kelantan became the first state to launch gold dinar coins. It features the Kelantanese state crest, the date of production, as well as the weight and purity of the gold used on its face. The Dinar Emas Kelantan (DEK) is similar to the original dinar in weight and purity of gold used. The coins can be bought and sold at the Kelantan Corporation Berhad (Perbadanan Kelantan Berhad) and all eight Ar-Rahn Islamic pawnshops in the state.
Common uses of the gold dinar include:
1. Saving them, because they are wealth in themselves.
2. Paying zakat and dowry as established within Islamic Law.
3. Buying merchandise from outlets.

Oh yeah, I wonder about this too. I hope to see more of their products here and everywhere in our country. Now we still are waiting for various products imported from Muslim-owned company abroad. That must be colorful if we can see them arranged in the hypermarket and groceries shops in our country :D.

Yeah, I listen to IKIM.FM. It is a radio station promoting Islamic Understanding and known as Radio Institut Kefahaman Islam (Islamic Understanding Institute Radio).
Don't worry about the language, beside using Malay as the medium for almost all the time, they have Arabic section for News and an Egyptian DJ whose name is Mona Jasman and this DJ seems working hard promoting Arabic in our community X D

Mona is mixed Egyptian, her father is a Malay, but her mother is an Egyptian. Well, she speak like Egyptians especially her "Jim" pronunciation during speaking standard Arabic is like "Dzjhim", so I just concluded her as Egyptian. She speaks Arabic so fast during the "Hayya Bil Arabiyya" session, luckily the Ustaz speaks slowly and he is the one who taught :statisfie.
Oh my mother is now busy selling Muslimah t-shirts too :D. Quite lots of people love them.
