I have been asked to commence a thread about Hiking.

Hiking became very popular during the peaceful period between 1920 and 1938 and was popularized by Lord Baden-Powell.
Participants were able to ramble over hill and dale and thru meadows and lea's having basket lunches in copses and village greens across the country . This was undertaken in the tranquil times of world peace and contentment when public safety was the normal expectation of one if one was rambling thru woods and forests . Of course now things are somewhat different due to influx of different peoples with different life styles and wanting more technical and sedentary forms of leisure activities , plus public safety is not what it used to be either, so rambling and hiking could be considered dangerous in areas where it was once considered a normal activity.

So our first question for posters is where should one go when asked to take a hike.

Away:statisfie

We usually go hiking in NWFP, Pakistan. Its sooo beautiful, mashaallah. The wilderness areas are pretty safe, its the cities that are dangerous. Still, we don't go alone, usually two sibs together, but its more to make sure we don't get lost, or hurt.

Safer cities with less safe hikes in Pakistan are Muree, Nathiagullee, Dongagalee, Ayyubia. But they have a higher tourist population, so not so pretty anymore, and not as safe
