Hi I am new to this forum,

My husband is muslim and we live in North East England, on holiday in Egypt recently he discovered the delight that is Beef Bacon and wondered if anyone knew if i could get this in England, my local halal butchers does not stock it.

I really would love to surprise him with some so if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

He has managed to stay away from pork and pork products for 5 years + now and we regularly have pork replacing items such as turkey ham so im sure he will be fine. He hates the thought of pork now anyway.

pork or anythin from a pig is the most disgusting fatty meat ever, tbh walkin past an english butcher would almost make me vomit because of the shi t smell of pig

turkey is an alternative because it has that same smoky smell

I think maybe you are getting the wrong idea here beef bacon is just strips of beef. It ois not pork and has no pork product in it, bacon is just the way the meat is cut

I thought bacon WAS pig meat. So any meat can be called bacon depending on how it is cut?

It's possible he mistook the word "shiite" for "shi'ite."

Uhm, there's absolutely nothing wrong with eating beef/turkey bacon. It's merely the way that it's prepared that makes it 'bacon', not what meat it's made from, although the most commonly used meaning is pork bacon.

As for where to get it, I'm afraid I've no clue, seeing as I don't live in the UK.. inshaAllah someone else can help.

In Malaysia there is one supermarkert selling chicken bacon taco... and lots of people are buying...

My mom argue that they are not suppose to sell it...and why they used the name bacon...

and so... we never try it :hmm:

but i found this

http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacon

In some cultures, such as the Iraq and the Iran, eating pork may be considered "unclean". Because of this, other varieties of bacon are also made out of turkey or chicken instead. Turkey bacon and chicken bacon usually contain half of the fat of pork based bacon. It is also made out of cow.

In Indonesia, you can find beef bacon in many places, especially in hotels and restaurants.
Some of them also serve turkey bacon.
