need quick reply, jazakhAllah

I've read a bit about qiyam al layl and from what I understand is, that it is the equivalent of taraweh in ramadan and that you are meant to finish it by praying the witr salah, so I've already prayed witr so can I carry on with more optional rakats into the night?

Qiyaam al-Layl just means 'Standing in the Night' i.e 'Prayer of the Night'. So in Ramadhaan Taraweeh is also called Qiyaam al-Layl.

It is better to pray Witr last, but this is not necessary, you can still pray more optional Raka'ats.

Qiyaamun lail is the same as Tawarwih during Ramadhan. Witr should be done last if possible. However i am sure it is permissable to do optional prayers thereafter.

My suggestion would be, if you intend to do optional prayers, then leave Witr till last!

Please make Dua for me

Thats a really good question.

I know at the Masjid, straight after qiyamun lail, the witr is prayed.

Generally speaking prayer in Jamaat has great reward, and on that basis i would do Jammat!

And it is permissable to pray after witr. :statisfie

You sound like me!:embarrass

Heres something to motivate us....

"Whoever stands the night in prayer in Ramadan believing in Allah and seeking His reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

SubhaanAllah!!!!

May Allah Reward all of use inshaAllah. Ameen!

Just something as a sidenote...

The difference between Qiyaam al-Layl & Tahajjud:

Qiyaam al-Layl can be prayed anytime during the night.

Tahajjud is prayed at night but AFTER awaking from sleep.

Yeah tahajjud is when you go to sleep and then wake up and pray.

Qiyam al layl is when you stay awake and pray.

I'm not sure I may be wrong so don't take this answer as definite but I think tahajjud has more reward because it's according to the sunnah. That's how the prophet pbuh used to pray at night.

read isha, go to sleep then wake up in the last 3rd of night and pray 8 raka't of tahajjud and then 3 rakaat of witr. of course there's nothing wrong with staying up and waiting for last 3rd of night but the sunnah way is to go sleep and then wake up.
