I need a clarification...
When a person has committed a sin that they are really regretful and repentful for... e.g. drinking/zinah or whatever... will they..
a) have that sin shown on tha Day of Judgment... In tha sense as everything we have done is recorded, will that be shown to everyone on that Day even though they have asked for forgiveness...
&
b) will they have to go through that punishment for that sin they have committed even though they have repented.
&
c) is it true that there will be sopme people whu even though they will go Jannah, will still recieve the punishment for their previous actions, even after repentance?

Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, there is a hadith which states that when one conceals anothers sin then ones own sins will be concealed on the day of judgement. So one should always conceal the sins of others and not advertise them to the world.

"And seek forgiveness of Allah; surely Allah is Forgiving, Compassionate."

(Qur’an 73:20)

Allah praises those who seek his forgiveness, as in the ayat:

"And those who pray for forgiveness in the early hours of the morning."

(Qur’an 3:17)

In other places, Allah tells us that he forgives those who ask for His forgiveness, as in ayat:

"And whoever does evil, or wrongs his own soul, but afterwards seeks Allah’s forgiveness, will find Allah is Forgiving, Compassionate."

(Qur’an 4:110)

Allah loves it when his slave asks him for forgiveness.

Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet (saws) said:

"I swear by Allah that I supplicate for Allah’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day."

Al-Bukhari,kitab ad-Da’awat 11/101

So we should all aim to seek for forgiveness from Allah as much as we can throughout the day especially at the end of the day and we should take some time at the end of the day to reflect on how much good deeds we did and how many sins we did and then make notes to make sure that we try our best NOT to do those sins again.

Sister there is not a sin that Allah does not forgive. As long as we have repented SINCERELY with our hearts with the intention of not repeating it again then he will forgive us for he is Ar hamur raahimeen, the most merciful the most forgiving and kind.

But we cannot decieve him. We cannot just repent with the intention of committing the sin again but if we have the intention of not committing it again and if we do slip up then we should continue to ask for forgiveness. So we should NEVER stop asking for forgiveness!

Allah will forgive any sin as i've stated but he cannot forgive the sin of any Muslim that we have wronged through backbiting, slander, gossipping, hurting them physically or mentally in anyway or wronging them.

If we have done any of these things then we should ask them for forgiveness and lthen ask Allah for forgiveness for wronging them in anyway. If we can;t get hold of those people then we should continue to make dua for them and ask Allah for forgiveness with FULL sincerety.

It is stated in the nearest meaning that the most unlucky person on the day of judgement will be a person who will have vast amounts of good deeds but they will all be wiped out. The reasons for this is that that person may have wronged SO many people in his lifetime and not seeked there forgiveness for whatever wrong he may have done to them. That is why it is crucial that we should seek forgiveness from ALL the Muslims we know especially our families for any wrong we may have done to them.

So my sister if we FULLY abide by ALL the commands of Allah, ask for repentance sincerely everyday and do not wrong anyone or if we do then ask for their forgiveness, then there is no reason why we won't gain the mercy of Allah on the day of judgement and be admitted to paradise. Just remember it is not our good deeds that will lead us to paradise but the mercy of Allah so we should always do the best we can to do as much good as possible and be hopeful for the mercy of Allah.

Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

"Allah does not inspire seeking forgiveness in any servant whom he wishes to punish."

Allah says, Put your hope in Me. Man was not created sinful, but he was created weak. He is prone to fall into the temptations of sin and the whispers of Satan and when he does, he should always remember to turn to Allah, call upon Him, and ask for forgiveness with hope in His mercy. Allah stated in a Hadithi Qudsi, I am with My servant as He expects of Me. The meaning of this is that Allah treats His servants the way he expects Him to. If one has hope in Allah and trusts Him, Allah will act accordingly to that servants beliefs and faith. And if he does not have faith and is in despair of his Lords mercy, Allah will act accordingly. Not having hope in Allah and despairing of His mercy is a great sin and an act of kufr. Allah quotes Prophet Yaqoob (alaiyhis-salam) in the Quran:

Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people. (Surah Yusuf 12:87)

One must be hopeful of Allahs mercy and forgiveness and fearful of His punishment. It is this fear that should lead one to seek Allahs forgiveness with hope. Allah says:

Know that Allah is severe in punishment and that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (Surat al-Maaidah 5:98)

In the above verse, Allah gives us reason to fear because His punishment is justly severe, as well as good reason to have hope, since He is the Most Forgiving and Merciful. There should be a balance between fear and hope and not too much or too less of one or the other. If there is too much fear, then a person may negate Allahs quality of mercy and ascribe to Him unkindness (Allah forbid!).

And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself, but then seeks forgiveness from Allah, he will find Allah forgiving and merciful. (Surat an-Nisaa 4:110)

So let us repent sincerely with the intention of NOT repeating the evil act or sin and let us have FULL hope in Allah for forgiveness.

if the sin was against another person/s, it does not 'go away' unless one rights the wrong if it is possible, otherwise sins against God-missing a prayer, not fasting etc- can be forgiven if God wishes to, it helps to be repentant in all cases, and God is the most just, merciful and wise, so no one is going to be undeservedly punished.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The one who repents from sin is like one who has never sinned.” (Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 4240; classed as saheeh by al-Busayri in al-Zawaa’id, commentary on Sunan Ibn Maajah).

Allah is the Most Merciful, Forgiving, Compassionate
