View Full Version : Somali man, 112, marries 17-year-old girl

10-31-2009, 02:06 PM
A crowd of hundreds attended the wedding between Ahmed Muhamed Dore and Safia Abdulleh in Guriceel, in the Galguduud region of
Somalia. Mr Dore said: "Today God helped me realise my dream."
Mr Dore and his teenage bride are from the same village, and he said that he had waited for her to grow up before proposing.
He said: "I didn't force her, but used my experience to convince her of my love, and then we agreed to marry."
The bride’s family said she was "happy with her new husband".
At 95 years older than her – if his claimed age is accurate – he is old enough to be her great-great-great-grandfather.
He already has 18 children by his other five wives.
According to Somali historians, the wedding is the first of its kind in Somalia for over a century.

Telegraph..
Dhore has 114 children and grandchildren. His oldest son is 80 and three of his wives have died. This was his first marriage for three quarters of a century. :D

I mean like this guy must be on the verge of death or something. Why doesn't he sit back and play with his great-great grandchildren? <_<

Apparently it's a growing trend. Check this out:
107 year old wants a 23rd husband, since she feels her 22nd husband (who's 70 years her junior!) doesn't love her anymore. :D
Sorry, back to the main article. They have a picture of the happy couple in the BBC page (
here) and I have to say this guy looks amazingly well for a centennial. :) Kudos to him.
How can he ................ ?
I think he can. :D

He already has 18 children by his other five wives.
Five existing wives? If that's so then that makes the last two marriages invalid.

18? my grandpa has 22 kids and 70 grandchildren and he only had 2 wives and not even at the same time. If this man can support his wives good for him although I don't understand why certain men insist on marrying and having kids even when their about to drop dead. My youngest uncle is 9 years old.... now that's just weird.

Not at all. I believe one of my aunts recently turned 5... But, that would actually be my second uncle, not first...
70 grandchildren? :ooh: :uuh:
It's good to have a lot of children, but it's also a responsibility. You have to make sure each one feels special and receives the proper education etc. It must be tough being a parent, now that I think of it...

Well said, Guestfellow. "Love has no boundary", as the saying goes. I say give the man a medal for having the stamina.;D
Some of the posters sound jealous to me, that's why they are critical of the marriage. It's no ones business except the bride and groom!

I don't see much difference between him and myself. Just maybe 3 or four differeces:
1. He is older then me
2. His wife is younger then my wife
3. He has more children then I have
But outside of those few differences he and I are almost identical

Anyways that is their matter in marriage, for some brothers and sisters here, could you please watch your words and stop making fun of them?? I dont need to mention names hers.....
just a reminder in case you forgot *They are muslims just like u*
you are backbiting them, do you have that much hasanat to give away in this thread?? ^o)

is this marriage even islamically allowed?? think about the girl i mean. no girl in her right mind would ever do this. there are chances that her family has got her married to the man for money. she must be forced or tricked... you know in some cultures, girls have no rights over themselves.
so does anyone have some idea is this kind of marriage right? because whats the point of marriage from the girl's point of view? and shouldnt the groom be punished for wanting to destroy the life of a 17 year old like this?
p.s. i found the comments like respect their marriage, dont judge, etc hilarious for some reason. no offense to anyone.

I suppose congrats in a way, I hope both are happy! :)
Though... for the sake of discussion, lets assume a hypothetical situation with the assumption that this was a one way decision (on the groom's part), and that they do find mutual love after marraige. Since the groom might be approaching death (Of course, we never know when we are going to die, but old age is old age regardless) it might put a heavy emotional toll on the wife to have to lose him right after.

Each to their own, whatever floats her boat...
Surely a man of 105 won't be able to do much, if anything? He'll probably have to be looked after 24/7.
