"The life of this world is just the enjoyment of delusion" [Surah Al 'Imran (3):185]

See the materialism of this world for what it is. It's just a rest stop, just some shade, on the highway to the hereafter. Treat it as such.

I love quotes! I will post some quotes now, but may post some funnier ones up later:

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.
Winston Churchill

All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.
Churchill

Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.
Churchill

I am easily satisfied with the very best.

Churchill

If you are going through hell, keep going.
Churchill

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
Churchill

All animals are equal- but some animals are more equal than others.
George Orwell

Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear
Orwell

What can you do against the lunatic who is more intelligent than yourself, who gives your arguments a fair hearing and then simply persists in his own lunacy?
Orwell

You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Jesus

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Jesus

I'll be sure to post more up later!

I got some here.

No smile is more beautiful than one that struggles through tears.

There are no winners and losers in life really. There are only those who really try and

those who really don't.

Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself

Happiness sneaks through a door you didn't know you left open.

Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking.

"It's faith that really takes the courage. The belief in things unseen.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's learning to dance in the rain.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things

I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else.
Churchill

In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world.
Obama

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Edmund Burke

If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free... I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
Jesus

When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbours- for they will invite you back, and in this way you will paid for what you did. Instead, when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind- and you shall be blessed, for they are not able to pay you back. God will repay you on the day the good people rise from death.

The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. Live, love, toil with a will. Place no faith in time. For the clock may soon be still.

Remember God in prosperity, and He will remember you in adversity

Live as long as you wish, you shall die. Love whatever you wish, you shall be separated from it. Do whatever you wish, you shall be rewarded for it.
- Jibreel (as)

Whatever passed us was never meant to meet us,
And whatever met us was never meant to Pass

I asked God for strength that I might achieve. I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey. I asked for health that I might do greater things. I was given infirmity that I might do better things. I asked for riches that I might be happy. I was given poverty that I might be wise. I asked for power that I might have the praise of men. I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God. I asked for all things that I might enjoy life. I was given life that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for. Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

Do not be like persons on whom advice has no effect; they require punishment to improve them.
A sensible man acquires education and culture through advice, while brutes and beasts always improve through punishment. -Ali b. Abu Talib

You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom."

1. I can please only one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow isn't looking good, either.

2. I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.

3. I'd explain it to you, but your brain would explode.

4. Someday we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car.

5. There are very few personal problems that cannot be solved by a suitable application of high explosives.

6. Tell me what you need and I'll tell you how to get along without it.

7. Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

8. Needing someone is like needing a parachute. If he isn't there the first time you need him, chances are you won't be needing him again.

9. I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

10. Last night, I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and thought to myself, "Where the heck is the ceiling?"

11. My Reality Check bounced.

12. On the keyboard of life, always keep one finger on the Escape key.

13. I don't suffer from stress. I'm a carrier.

14. You're slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter.

15. Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons because, to them, you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

16. Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.

17. Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level.

There are some random ones I had saved on my cell :hmm:
  • Always forgive your enemies - Nothing annoys them so much
  • Why is it that you'll only know where the line is if you cross it?
  • Like fire, money is neither good nor evil. It's neutral- It's character determined by the eye of the perceiver, the hand of the user
  • A sharp tongue sometimes cuts it's own throat.
  • Go the extra mile. It's never crowded.
  • Be kind to your feet. They outnumber people one to two.
  • There are chapters in every life that are seldom read and certainly not aloud.
  • Writers build castles in the air, writers live in them, and the publishers collect the rent.
  • Is it true that nobody likes to hear a celebrity complain?
  • Never be afraid to laugh at yourself. Afterall, you could be missing out on the joke of the century!
  • No such thing as an attention span, people have infinite attention if you are entertaining them.
  • Intelligent people simplify the complex and fool complicate the simple.
  • Every exit is an entry somewhere.
  • The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.
  • When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
  • If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
  • Evening news is where they begin with 'Good evening', and then proceed to tell you why it isn't.
  • Before borrowing money from a friend, decide which you need more.(Friend or Money !)
  • Never argue with a fool. People might not know the difference.
  • When you're right, no one remembers. When you're wrong, no one forgets.
  • Everyone makes mistakes. The trick is to make mistakes when nobody is looking.
  • They say hard work never hurts anybody, but why take the chance.
  • Where there's a will, there are five hundred relatives.
  • If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side.
  • Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.
  • Mothers of teens know why some animals eat their young.
  • Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.
  • Children: You spend the first 2 years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next 16 years telling them to sit down and shut-up.
  • Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids.

One of my favourite quotes:
"It would be perfectly possible to be a complete and absolute Rationalist in the true sense of the term and yet accept this or that dogma. The question is how to arrive at your opinions and not what your opinions are. The thing in which we believe is the supremacy of reason. If reason should lead you to orthodox conclusions, well and good; you are still a Rationalist."

It was 1943 or 1944, I quote it from memory - by Leon Degrelle -

I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again.

Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you. Get to know Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity. Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you; and that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship.

How will the Sun of Islam Rise,
When the Youth of our Ummah
are asleep at Fajr?

When the missionaries came to Africa, they had the bible and we had the land. They taught us to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, they had bible, and they had the land.

If you don't think every day is a good day try missing one!

"V: VoilÃ*! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villian by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengence; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."

"He who boasts of his ancestry is praising the deeds of another."

Allâh burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulâ (Patron, Suppor-ter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people."

My next quote is from the novel 1984. A dystopian epic, it describes an incredibly depressing future with a totalitarian government:

'The first thing for you to understand is that in this place there are no martyrdoms. You have read of the religious persecutions of the past. In the Middle Ages there was the Inquisition. It was a failure. It set out to eradicate heresy, and ended by perpetuating it. For every heretic it burned at the stake, thousands of others rose up. Why was that? Because the Inquisition killed its enemies in the open, and killed them while they were still unrepentant: in fact, it killed them because they were unrepentant. Men were dying because they would not abandon their true beliefs. Naturally all the glory belonged to the victim and all the shame to the Inquisitor who burned him. Later, in the twentieth century, there were the totalitarians, as they were called. There were the German Nazis and the Russian Communists. The Russians persecuted heresy more cruelly than the Inquisition had done. And they imagined that they had learned from the mistakes of the past; they knew, at any rate, that one must not make martyrs. Before they exposed their victims to public trial, they deliberately set themselves to destroy their dignity. They wore them down by torture and solitude until they were despicable, cringing wretches, confessing whatever was put into their mouths, covering themselves with abuse, accusing and sheltering behind one another, whimpering for mercy. And yet after only a few years the same thing had happened over again. The dead men had become martyrs and their degradation was forgotten. Once again, why was it? In the first place, because the confessions that they had made were obviously extorted and untrue. We do not make mistakes of that kind. All the confessions that are uttered here are true. We make them true. And above all we do not allow the dead to rise up against us. You must stop imagining that posterity will vindicate you, Winston. Posterity will never hear of you. You will be lifted clean out from the stream of history. We shall turn you into gas and pour you into the stratosphere. Nothing will remain of you, not a name in a register, not a memory in a living brain. You will be annihilated in the past as well as in the future. You will never have existed.'

'Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?'

These following quotes are humerous, and from a comic book I used to collect called ultimate spiderman:

Red Omega: How did you find me?
Spiderman: Of all the goofball nonsense in your life that led you to this place dressed like that with that hair... and the one thing you're questioning is me?

Red Omega: Ouch!
Spiderman: Yeah, you said that already.

*Spiderman to a bunch of onlookers he just rescued*: You know what? Fine. I have to skedaddle and save another bunch of ungrateful civilians across town. And when the police arrive, be sure to stare at them blankly too. Oh, and if you could blame all this on me... that'd be great.

Red Omega: Can't believe I just got sideswapped like that.
Spiderman: You can't believe it. I can't believe I almost came out dressed in that exact same outfit today. Boy, would that have been embarrassing!
Red Omega: What are you, twelve?
Spiderman: What are you? President of the Dr Octopus fanclub?

Spiderman: Oh no...
MJ: You know him?
Spiderman: He's the biggest loser in loserville. I have to pound him once a week.

Spiderman: I really think you need to take a long hard look at yourself in a similar light. In fact, repeat after me: I officially suck at being a criminal. My shocking shockers truly aren't all that shocking.

Spiderman: Just gonna sit down and enjoy the ground for a minute. Oh, and don't try that at home. Just remembered- I left a pudgy middle aged yutz webbed to the side of a building. Hate it when that happens.
