Britain is now home to over 1.1million Muslim immigrants, a new study into faith and
UK immigration has found.
The findings are to be reported in the study by the Institute for Public Policy Research, it will conclude that thousands of Muslims have relocated to the UK as it is more tolerate towards Islam than most European countries.
The figure of 1.1million includes all Muslims who were born abroad, no matter their age, however it excludes those who were born in the UK. Statistics from the Government places the number of Muslims in the UK as 2.4million, meaning that the majority of the Muslim population are British-born.
According to the report, over the past 10 years the UK has seen a net increase of 275,000 in the numbers of Muslim immigrants who were born in Bangladesh or Pakistan and who are now living in the UK, the numbers of Somali born UK immigrants has also risen sharply, from less than 40,000 in 1999 to 106,700 this year.
The new immigrants are part of a trend of higher migration from the European Union, coming to the UK after being subject to intolerant "Islamaphobia" abroad, according to the study.
The report will also stress that there has been a large increase in Christians also, explaining that the real need for work, and safety from persecution are among the key reasons driving
UK immigration flows.
