My pastor was saying the other day how much God gets negative press. How everything that bad happens, like wars or murders, let's just blame religion and God in particular. But when something good happens- when a new cure is discovered, or peace is made, it's not God who's thanked but man. Shows just how hypocritical man can be.

we pray thus (its the first chapter of the holy quran):

1. In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
2. All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
3. The Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
4. The Only Owner (and the Only Ruling Judge) of the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)
5. You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).
6. Guide us to the Straight Way
7. The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (such as those who know your ruling yet dont act upon it), nor of those who went astray (such as those who have no knowledge).

In Islaam being thankful towards Allah is not just expressed on the tongue rather it is also evident from the actions of the limbs.

Say: If you truly love Allah then follow me [ie the guidance of the Prophet] and Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins, verily Allah is oft forgiving most Merciful. [Quran]

oh yeah!

also in Islam we say that to thank God (Allaah) for a certain blessing, we should use that blessing to obey God(Allaah)

i.e, Allaah gave us our eyes, now a simple 'thank u' is good, but we should also use these eyes to obey God (by not looking at that which is forbidden to look at (porn etc))

God (Allaah) is truly the greatest! No doubt!

Thank you, Khaldun. It reminds me of the words of Jesus:
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
(John 12:26)
And imam bukaris' quote reminds me of this:
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.
(James 2:14-22)
God does indeed speak to us all. :)

Very true brother, good observation. I as a Christian am supposed to live as an example myself. Emanating a kind, understanding, giving, and loving attitude to all humanity through my actions, on a daily basis.:D

Muslims thank Allah SWT at least 17 times a day everyday when we recite Al-Fatiha during each rakaat of the 5 obligatory shalat.
Alhamdulillaahi Rabbil 'Aalamiin
Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds.

On top of that, it is sunnah after each shalat to also offer dhikr which glorify Allah SWT and which include the above expression of gratitude.
