I love walking and I have very good walking boots - but even then I found it very slippery in parts when I went out earlier.
When I worked on the orthopaedic wards in hospital we always had many fractured bones this time of year, especially broken wrists (from trying to protect yourself when you fall) and broken hips - and most commonly in the elderly.
Broken hips can be quite serious, and older people don't always recover from the operation!
There
are agencies and charities to support the elderly at home - but what if
they don't get to the people because of the poor weather and road conditions?
It is then left to local people to offer support.
I don't think people around here would appricate people just knocking on your door. You'd probably be branded a nuisence. :(
I know what you mean.
But how do you know whether people would appreciate it or not, unless you ask them?? :)
If you simply and politely ask if somebody needs some shopping done or the path cleared, I cannot see that many people would take offense.
Don't be put off by what people
might say ... for all you know somebody might say "I am
so glad you came. I really need some bread and milk ...!"
Perhaps just start with somebody who might at least know you by sight - so you won't be a complete stranger!
