:sl: everyone,

I'm new here and i've got a question that's been pondering in my head for quite some time.
Before i ask,I'm sorry if someone's already asked this question but
What are the signs that Allah loves us??
For example,
If i haven't prayed for a long time(10+-years),then i suddenly started praying means He loves me?

Thanks in advance.(if anyone answers this thread)

Welcome to the forum.

I'm afraid I only know what Allah said,

"Say: If you love Allah follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." (3:31)

"Indeed those who believe and do good deeds, the Most Compassionate One will appoint for them love." (19:96)

So by doing good deeds, you will get Allah's love.

That is how I understand it from the above ayaat.

There may be other answers to this too.

Allah knows best.

Salams...

I've come to think that Allah swt has give us alot and have shown us alot of how much Allah loves us. And we should be asking ourselves how much we love Allah swt and the prophet.

But if you're saying about the love like the aulia... than i think only Allah knows.

I would like to share you the tafseer of bismillah...the difference between Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem

taken from here

What are the similarities and the differences between Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem?

Bismillah.

Both Rahman and Raheem come from the same three letter root (Ra, Ha, Miim). As defined in Lane’s Lexicon: (source: http://www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm)

- Rahman – it is active participle noun in the measure of fa’lan which conveys the idea of fullness and extensiveness.

- Raheem – it is in the measure of fa’il which denotes the idea of constant repetition and giving.

Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem are two names derived from Ar-Rahmah (the mercy). (Source: Tafsir Ibn kathir – Tafsir.com)

[Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem] are two descriptions of Allah, Exalted is He, and two of the Names from amongst His Beautiful Names derived from ar-rahma (mercy) in a way to express intense meanings. (source: The Spiritual Cure: An Explanation to Surah al-Fatihah, publisher: Daar Us-Sunnah Publishers)

Al-Rahman and al-Raheem are two of the names of Allah which refer to Allah’s attribute of Mercy. (source: Islamqa.com Fatwa No. 22200)

Al-Rahman refers to the vastness of Allah’s mercy, and al-Raheem refers to its effect on His creation. So al-Rahman is the Owner of vast Mercy, and al-Raheem is the Owner of Mercy that encompasses His creation.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Al-Rahman is the Owner of vast mercy, because the fa’lan form in Arabic indicates vastness and abundance, as it is said rajulu ghadbaan (a very angry man) when he is filled with anger or Zaidu jaw’aan (Zaid is hungry) when he is severely/intensely hungry.

Ar-Raheem is a name which refers to the action, as the fa’il form refers to the doer of an action. So the phrase ar-Rahman ar-Raheem indicates that the mercy of Allah is vast, as is understood from the name ar-Rahman, and that it encompasses His creation, as is understood from the name ar-Raheem. This is what some of them meant when they said that ar-Rahman refers to mercy in a general sense and ar-Raheem refers to mercy that is specifically for the believers. But what we have mentioned is more accurate.” (From Sharh al-‘Aqeedah al-Waasitiyyah, 1/22) (source: Islamqa.com Fatwa No. 22200)

Ibn al-Qayyim said: ar-Rahman points to an Attribute that is existent in Him, Transcendent is He, and ar-Raheem points to its interaction with the recipient of mercy. If you wish to understand this, ponder carefully His saying,

“He is Most Merciful (Raheeman) to the believers.” (33:43)

“The All-Merciful (Ar-Rahmanu) rose over the Throne” (20:5)

For not once is it mentioned that He is Rahman with them. This proves that ar-Rahman refers to one who is described with mercy whereas ar-Raheem is One who shows mercy. (Ibn al-Qayyim, Bada’i al-Fawa’id, vol. 1, pg. 24)

Others said that ar-Rahman was more intense than ar-Raheem in meaning. (Abu Hayyan, vol. 1, pg. 128) ar-Rahman is the one endowed with Mercy that extends to all of the creations in this world and to the believers in the Hereafter. Ar-Raheem on the other hand is the One endowed with Mercy that extends to only the believers on the Day of Judgement – this being the understanding of the majority of the scholars. The narration reported from ‘Isa, as mentioned by Ibn Kathir and others, also indicates this – that he (upon him and our Prophet be peace and blessings) said, ar-Rahman: the One who shows mercy in this world and the Hereafter. Ar-Rahman: the One who shows mercy in the Hereafter (at-Tabari, vol 1, pg 84).

Allah the Exalted also points to what we have mentioned when He said,

“then He rose over the Throne, ar-Rahman” (25:59)

“ar-Rahman rose over the Throne” (20:5)

So he mentioned the istawa (Rising over the Throne) with His Name, ar-Rahman, so as to embrace the whole of His creation with his mercy as was stated by ibn Kathir. Likewise is His saying,

“Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out their wings and folding them in? None upholds them except ar-Rahman” (67:19)

meaning: from his mercy to His creation is his kindness to the birds and His holding them in the sky while they are spreading out their wings and folding them in. From the clearest evidences pertaining to this is His saying,

“ar-Rahman. He taught the Quran… so which of the favours of your Lord will you two deny “ (55:1-13)

Allah, Exalted is He says,

“…and He is Ever Most Merciful (raheem) to the believers” (33:43)

and hence particularized His name ar-Raheem to them. (source: The Spiritual Cure: An Explanation to Surah al-Fatihah, publisher: Daar Us-Sunnah Publishers)

Rahman has more meanings that pertain to mercy than Ar-Raheem. There is a statement by Ibn Jarir that indicates that there is a consensus on this meaning. Further, Al-Qurtubi said, “The proof that these names are derived (from Ar-Rahmah), is what At-Tirmidhi recorded – and graded Sahih from `Abdur-Rahman bin `Awf that he heard the Messenger of Allah say,

(Allah the Exalted said, ‘I Am Ar-Rahman. I created the Raham (womb, i.e. family relations) and derived a name for it from My Name. Hence, whoever keeps it, I will keep ties to him, and whoever severs it, I will sever ties with him.’) He then said, “This is a text that indicates the derivation.” He then said, “The Arabs denied the name Ar-Rahman, because of their ignorance about Allah and His attributes.”

Al-Qurtubi said, “It was said that both Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem have the same meaning, such as the words Nadman and Nadim, as Abu `Ubayd has stated. Abu `Ali Al-Farisi said, `Ar-Rahman, which is exclusively for Allah, is a name that encompasses every type of mercy that Allah has. Ar-Raheem is what affects the believers, for Allah said,

(And He is ever Raheem (merciful) to the believers.)’ (33:43)

Allah’s Name Ar-Rahman is exclusively His. For instance, Allah said,

(Say (O Muhammad): “Invoke Allah or invoke Ar-Rahman (Allah), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names) (17:110),) and,

(And ask (O Muhammad) those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you: “Did We ever appoint alihah (gods) to be worshipped besides Ar-Rahman (Most Gracious, Allah)”) (43:45).

As for Allah’s Name Ar-Raheem, Allah has described others by it. For instance, Allah said,

(Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger (Muhammad) from amongst yourselves (i.e. whom you know well). It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty. He (Muhammad) is anxious over you (to be rightly guided) for the believers (he is) kind (full of pity), and Raheem (merciful)) (9:128).

In conclusion, there are several of Allah’s Names that are used as names for others besides Allah. Further, some of Allah’s Names are exclusive for Allah alone, such as Allah, Ar-Rahman, Al-Khaliq (the Creator), Ar-Raziq (the Sustainer), and so forth.

Hence, Allah started the Tasmiyah (meaning, `In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious Most Merciful’) with His Name, Allah, and described Himself as Ar-Rahman, (Most Gracious) which is softer and more general than Ar-Raheem. The most honorable Names are mentioned first, just as Allah did here. (Source: Tafsir Ibn kathir – Tafsir.com)

In Sheikh Jamaal Zarabozo’s audio lecture series on the Tafsir Surah Fatihah “Al-Fatihah – An In-depth Study” the sheikh after commenting on various opinions of ar-Rahman and ar-Raheem he concludes:

“Ar-Rahman…related to His essence but the pattern of ar-Rahman gives the idea that it is filled and overflowing so from that essence Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala has created the many aspects of Rahmah. He gives to those people who are deserving of Rahmah and gives to those who are not deserving of Rahmah and this is the general concept of Rahman and as we have said Ar-Rahman touches on those things which only Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala can give people; like giving life and so forth these are exclusively for Ar-Rahman and this is a name that can only be given to Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala but in response to the action; so beyond that Rahmah that Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala has decreed to all of the creation beyond that Rahmah, Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala also has a special Rahmah which goes with his name ar-Raheem which is in response to the believers to their belief in Him to their actions and so Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala bestows a special Rahmah from his name ar-Raheem upon those people who believe in Him and who act properly so this Rahmah is not from His general Rahmah that He has ordained for the creation as a whole but this is based on his justice and His wisdom and His love for the believers.”

And Fatwa No. 22200 from Islamqa.com concluded their answer with the best conclusion: “And Allah knows best.”

(Say: “My Lord knows best their number…”) (18:22)

indicating that the best thing to do in matters like this is to refer knowledge to Allah, because there is no need to indulge in discussing such matters without knowledge. If we are given knowledge of a matter, then we may talk about it, otherwise we should refrain. (source: Tafsir Ibn Kathir – Tafsir.com)

Subhanallah that Allah starts all but one Surah off with Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim. As the simplest most general audience for Ar-Rahman is all of creation and Ar-Rahim is for the believers and Allah says,

O mankind! Verily, there has come to you a convincing proof (Prophet Muhammad Sallahu Alayhi wa Salaam) from your Lord; and We sent down to you a manifest light (this Qur’an). (4:174)

This is the Book (the Qur’an), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqun [the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)]. (2:2)

We see this Quran is not just a Rahmah for the believers, but a Rahmah for all of creation as it is the word of Allah; so don’t hoard this Quran the greatest miracle amongst ourselves but share it with mankind.

Praise be to Allaah.

Among the signs that the Lord is pleased with His slave is that He guides him to do good deeds and avoid haraam things. This is confirmed by the words of Allaah:

“While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance and bestows on them their piety” [Muhammad 47:17]

“As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our paths (i.e. Allaah’s religion — Islamic Monotheism)” [al-‘Ankaboot 29:69]

But if a person is hindered from doing good deeds and avoiding haraam things – we seek refuge with Allaah – then that is a sign that Allaah is not pleased with him. Allaah has also explained in His Book that the sign of His being pleased with His slave and of His guidance is that He opens his heart to true guidance and true faith.

And the sign of misguidance and being far from the Straight Path is distress and constriction in the heart. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And whomsoever Allaah wills to guide, He opens his heart to Islam; and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his heart closed and constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky. Thus Allaah puts the wrath on those who believe not”
[al-An’aam 6:125]

Ibn 'Abbaas said, commenting on this verse: “And whomsoever Allaah wills to guide…”: He opens his heart to Tawheed and belief therein.
Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 2/175

Another sign of Allaah’s love for His slave and His being pleased with him is that He makes him beloved to His slaves. Al-Bukhaari (3209) and Muslim (2637) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“When Allaah loves a person, He calls out to Jibreel: ‘Allaah loves So and so,’ so Jibreel loves him. Then Jibreel calls out to the people of heaven, ‘Allaah loves So and so, so love him.’ So the people of heaven love him and he finds acceptance on earth.”

Al-Nawawi said: “and he finds acceptance on earth” means that people love him and are pleased to see him, so their hearts incline towards him. It says in another report: “and he finds love on earth.”

And Allaah knows best.

Also:

Hadith Qudsi 15:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah the Almighty said: 'I am as My servant thinks I am (1). I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed."

It was related by al-Buhkari (also by Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah)

Also:

Hadith Qudsi 24:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"If Allah has loved a servant [of His], He calls Gabriel (on whom be peace) and says: 'I love So-and-so, therefore love him.'" He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "So Gabriel loves him. Then he (Gabriel) calls out in heaven, saying: 'Allah loves So-and-so, therefore love him.' And the inhabitants of heaven love him." He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then acceptance is established for him on earth. And if Allah has abhorred a servant [of His], He calls Gabriel and says: 'I abhor So-and-so, therefore abhor him.' So Gabriel abhors him. Then Gabriel calls out to the inhabitants of heaven: 'Allah abhors So-and-so, therefore abhor him.'" He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "So they abhor him, and abhorrence is established for him on earth."

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, Malik, and at-Tirmidhi).

And finally:

Hadith Qudsi 25:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

'Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him.'"

It was related by al-Bukhari.

Allah waits for his servant to go back to him. He guides whom he wills. Go towards Allah as much as you can. If you walk towards him he will run towards you. Allah loves us 70 times more than a mother loves its baby. That kind of love is unimaginable.

So go towards Allah as much as you and can spend all of your time pleasing him. Make the best of now before preperations are made for your own funeral.
