View Full Version : Bin Laden' claims Christmas Day bomb plot

A new audio tape said to be from Osama Bin Laden that claims responsibility for the Christmas Day airline bombing attempt in Detroit has warned of further attacks against America.

The short recording purporting to be from the al-Qaeda leader, which was aired on Al Jazeera television, said: “The message delivered to you through the plane of the heroic warrior Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was a confirmation of the previous messages sent by the heroes of the September 11.” Bin Laden directed personally to President Barack Obama, sought once again to draw a direct link between al-Qaeda's terror campaign and US support for Israel.

On Christmas Day, Mr Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian national, allegedly attempted to blow up the Northwest Airlines flight he was sitting on as it approached Detroit Metro Airport. But the bomb he was said to have been hiding in his underwear failed to explode.

He told police shortly afterwards that he had been trained and instructed in the plot by al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen.
More than 60 messages have been broadcast by bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahri, al-Qaeda’s number two, and their allies since the September 11 attacks in 2001.

The tape was aired after MI5 raised the terrorist threat level in Britain from "substantial" to "severe" — meaning that counter-terrorism agencies believe that an attack is "highly likely".

It is believed that intelligence whispers from America that an al-Qaeda affiliated group is close to finalising another atrocity coupled with a conference on Yemen and Afghanistan in London this week led to the decision.

The measure was approved by the Government's Cobra emergency committee and announced by Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary, who said he wanted to emphasise that “there is no intelligence to suggest than an attack is imminent”.

David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, said today that it would be “very stupid” of him to comment on the intelligence behind the change in threat level.

“The fact is though that these people will stop at nothing; they will try every trick in the book, they will use advanced technology, they will use all the mechanisms of open society that we depend on for their own terrible purposes.

“And they will try to strike Christians, Muslims, Jews randomly.”

The Government had a responsibility to keep the terrorist threat to the UK “under very careful scrutiny”, he added.

So, December 25th, 2009 to today January 24th, 2010, exactly one month. Why did it take him a month to claim responsibility? We will still be receiving messages from him even after he becomes 100+ years old!

Kind of odd on his part I must say. I suppose he was waiting to see if we thought it would be someone else, then be like "no, wait, it was me, haha surprise!" eh, life I suppose.

Kind of awkward quote..“And they will try to strike Christians, Muslims, Jews randomly.”

I am none of the above, yet I could just as easily die in a terrorist attack...I feel left out.

Don't you guys find it weird that ALL we hear from him nowadays are audio messages?

My arabic friend told me that there was an egyptian article reporting his death in December, 2001. He said I can find it on the internet, so I will look. Buried in Tora Bora mountains.

I remember in 2001 he was mouthing off about martyrs and 9/11 and all that, but I never actually saw him take responsibility. Then the Taliban say that regardless, they needed evidence to deposit Osama into U.S. hands.

I think it was in 2004, a new video surfaced. His nose was a different shape, he was much fatter, and it looked his (neck?) was in extreme pain as he kept jerking around and leaning off to one side. He didn't look too pleased.

And then in 2007, another video message was released, this time he looked much thinner, slightly more grey beard, and darker skin.

Regardless of the real situation, I do think he should be brought to justice for all the civilian deaths and misery this spoiled rich egyptian brat has caused.

G'day :D.

Even if bin Laden is still alive, he's nothing more than a figurehead with no real power anymore. He's the terrorist version of Big Brother. He will never die.

It's just a still photo of him, and he looks different than all the other pictures in that thread. He also sounds different from when I ever heard him before.

Take a look at the profile of the guy who posted. Another (wannabe) jihadist praising Osama. Not the most credible source in the world.

It's a good thing Youtube suspended accounts like that, they do give Muslims a bad image online.

Regardless, I'm not convinced by the audio or *any* picture of "Osama" anymore.

This should be for an interesting read:

https://web.archive.org/web/20130515...n-laden-photo/

The FBI incorporated the photograph of a Spanish politician in its age-progressed image of Osama bin Laden.
Apparently, an FBI forensic artist plucked the photo of Gaspar Llamazares off the Internet; the Bureau had touted the new bin Laden image, showing how he might look at age 52, as the product of cutting-edge technology. The FBI adapted the image, and another depicting bin Laden with a beard, from a 1998 photo of the al-Qaeda leader.
Click here for the BBC story and here for the CNN report.
Llamazares, the former leader of the United Left coalition in parliament, called the FBI’s use of his photo “shameless,” and said he feared he wouldn’t be able to travel to the U.S. anymore.

They are just using this man for reasons to increase the "war on terror".

Osama Bin Laden is nothing more than a puppet for American foreign policy. Exactly the thing he was apparently against in the first place. Ah well.

I saw a BBC documentary on whether or not he's still alive the other day. It said that even though his beard is now black, dying your beard black is allowed in Islam at times of war.

I was torn between the dying-his-beard comment and the Button comment. I decided to go with the latter as I thought it was far wittier.

He's been at war for decades and only NOW he's decided to dye his beard? Very interesting.

Well I suppose he's never had to before as he wasn't aging.

And yet nobody here even mentioned, and probably didn't even take a look at what the FBI did to the Spanish politician...great!

I remember watching videos on TV of him back in the '90s, his beard was grey then as well. He's not young, if I'm not mistaken he's 50+.

I strongly suspect that Osama Bin Laden has been dead for at least 5 or 6 years now, possibly longer.
