rechargable batteries have a finite life time as well. Depending on how you use, it can increase wear and tear.
I suggest you to use Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries.
But from the problems, it seems to be a software issue, not battery issue. Maybe you can start by updating the firmware of the camera software.
