Pope Benedict Apologises for Irish Priests' sex abuse

Pope Benedict XVI has apologised to victims of child sex abuse by Catholic priests in Ireland.

In a pastoral letter to Irish Catholics, he acknowledged the sense of betrayal in the Church felt by victims and their families.

The Pope said there had been "serious mistakes" among bishops in responding to allegations of paedophilia.

The pastoral letter is the first statement of its kind by the Vatican on the sexual abuse of children.

It follows revelations of paedophilia within the Irish Catholic Church, which have rocked the institution.


Scandals involving Catholic priests have been reported in other countries, including the Pope's native Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria and the US.

About time, too. The Pope has made history with this apology, but he hasn't implicated the Catholic Church enough. It's going to take more than this to restore the moral credibility of Catholics.

"Oh no, keep away from fitnah. That's just rumors". I replied
"But I know it from my Christian friend. She told me about it".
"She is a Protestant, isn't she ?".
"Yes, she's a Protestant"
"That's why I say, keep away from fitnah".

Honestly, I have heard many jokes about Catholics priests and nuns that created by Protestant people. And I always wonder why those Protestant people always insult Catholics.

however, after I read that article I think, maybe 'news' from those Protestant people are not really wrong, although maybe those 'news' have mixed with rumors.

But of course, we cannot think all Catholic priests did sexual abuse or sexual sexual scandals. These were happened only in certain Churches.

A real tragedies hapenned, and some action must be made. I think that it should be work out in institutional level with co-operation with Vatican.
On the other hand, as usual such things appear just before our holiday , this time Easter.
As usual, the enemies of the Church inside, appear with the same hostile to out tradition talk about rejecting celibacy and allwoing women to priesthood.

This isn't a Protestant lie; sex abuse of minors is one of the biggest problems in the Catholic church.

It has certainly damaged the reputation of Catholics.

Its evil indeed and huge problem for the Church. Vatican must fight with this and I'm sure that they will do.

But we should remember that such things dont happen among catholic clerg more often than among other "professions" (doctors, teachers, politicians, journalists).

Dont forget that we talk about institutions of 1,1 billion believers and dozens thousands of priests. You always find bad sheeps among them.

It's just that Catholic Church is 10 times more examined and checked about this than any other institution. I dont say that it's wrong way, but its good to know this fact.

Also again media come up with such informations before our holidays.

The Church by the pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI apologized only few times as far as I remember (jews for mistreatment, indians for crimes during conquista, and for mistakes of Inquisition).

Let's think how manay times should apologize human mind for his wicked ideas - racism, communism, national socialism, abortion, euthanasia.

Since 1945, in USA alone more people were killed by abortion than Adolf Hitler killed in deaths camps.

Let's not forget that we talk about institution that exists for 2000 years and is made of both divine and human (failing) elements. It's institutions which created one of the highest civilizations ever existed - latin culture.

Institution which has believers on all continents, has bad sheeps among the herd.
