so basically, you still feel that that emptiness and darkness in your heart even though you have long moved on from that sin? it just keeps cropping up :( ur just constantly stuck in the same mid-frame. the same "spiritual depression" the same "omg, why was i so stupid as to go down that daym path. :'(" "omg, im still so so sinful...who have i been kidding, im the same sinful person as before and i haven't changed a bit."
is this a trick from shaytaan to make you feel helpless? is there such thing as feeling guilty for something you're sure (or at-least you're not completely sure that) you haven't committed.
this is so annoying me and it feels like i cant move on because of it. it feels like it just keeps me back. i dont feel like advising anyone or just generally do good towards people because i think, "whats the point, im not even practicing what im preaching"

Jazakallah khayr for your question. This may apply to a lot of us but what we have to realise is that shaythan's job is to stop or at least slow down our progress. If he knows that we are going to do good then he will put so many thoughts and suggestions in our mind to put us off doing it. He knows that you have SO much potential to do good and get closer to Allah that is why he is trying his best to stop your progress. This is a common trick of his and soemthing that we should realise before we waste all our precious seconds in this life.
It is a good thing to think of ones self as a sinner because we should never think of ourselves as pious as this would bring diseases like pride and arrogance into our hearts. But we should also not let our past or even current sins from stopping us get closer to Allah and do good deeds. We should realsie that whatever has happened in the past has happened and that it has made us better people now.
As long as we have left our past major sins we should be hopeful of Allah's mercy and forgiveness as this is also a part of faith as Allah tells us in the Qur'an to have hope in his mercy:
Allah, the Exalted, says:
"Say: O `Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful".
(39:53)
"And never do We requit in such a way except those who are ungrateful (disbelievers)".
(34:17)
'(Say:) `Truly, it has been revealed to us that the torment will be for him who denies (believes not in the Oneness of Allah, and in His Messengers), and turns away (from the truth and obedience of Allah)".
(20:48)
"And My Mercy embraces all things".
(7:156)
So let us realise that this is shaythan wanting to block our progress in getting closer to Allah and doing good deeds and let us learn from the past and do things better now and constantly repent to Allah and thank him in abundance for Allah gives more to those who are thankful.
Make this moment the beginning of a change in your attitude in that you will NEVER let shaythan waste a single second more of your progress in getting closer to Allah, doing good deeds and inviting others towards good and forbidding evil.
Be hopeful of Allah's mercy:
Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people.
(Surah Yusuf 12:87)
Shaythan hates that we do good and we will do as much good as possible and NOT let him give us excuses to stop our progress.
May Allah enable us to do as much good as possible. Ameen
Let us end with this beautiful hadith Qudsi:
"O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and put your hope in Me, I have forgiven you for what you have done and I do not mind. O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and then you would seek My forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins that are close to filling the earth and then you would meet Me without ascribing any partners with Me, I would certainly bring to you forgiveness close to filling it."
