Where in NY will you be? if NYC

there is a major Islamic center E96, At Third Ave

no one really likes this center they prefer the one on 11th st. called Madina Masjid
401E. 11th St.,
most people I know prefer it, and it is close to http://www.venierospastry.com/

lots of Algerians and Moroccans there making amazing pastries

so the mosque is right across lol ..(stay away from the coffee there though) it is awful!

other than that my favorite things are probably not amusing to most others..

here is 'proper' Halal but it is over-priced (this is NYC) where everything is

http://chinesemirch.com/

http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/ravagh/menu

there is an afghan one on 26th and third but he also serves alcohol but he swears his food is halal so.. I am leaving it out to your discretion..

http://www.bamiyan.com/

I don't tend to eat out because I have stomach probs..

anyhow there is also a 'Halal cart' probably the cheapest with the highest rating:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/53rd-and-6th...-cart-new-york

Enjoy your trip insha'Allah

I live in NY

My favorite masaajid here include

1) Masjid al Emaan which is on Steinway St. in Astoria Queens

2) Masjid Astoria on 21st and Astoria Blvd

3) Masjid al Farooq which is on Atlantive Avenue in Downtown Bklyn

Loads of Halal restaurants. I suggest you pay a visit to Jackson Heights in Queens for great desi food, then you have the famous Yemeni cafe which is in Downtown Bklyn but its a big expensive there.

I dont have the exact addresses for these places but i'll try to find them for u inshaAllah

I'm going to New York in February. Apparantly it is incredibly cold in Winter, but I reckon that is part of the experience. It's weather is more extreme than London: colder in Winter, hotter in Summer. Nevertheless, I cannot wait to experience the Big Apple- however, whether or not it is better than London, I shall soon see! I'm going to be visiting the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square, Wall Street and a few of the cathedrals there to name but a few.

chinese mirch doesn't selll alcohol, they are under certified Halal. there used to be an originally chinese convert on 19th st. but unfortunately he couldn't thrive for very long.. folks really love their pigs so I can't imagine chinese doing well without some shady ingredients... Chinese mirch is actually quite good..

there is always the Halal cart or you can simply stay away from NYC the further away you go the more ethnic minorities with their massive cuisine as stated before I simply just don't eat out, and if I do, it is usually from a store like Panera where I can get a bagel with asiago cheese and a cup o joe!

There is also a very good affordable vegetarian restaurant in W 4th. Their mock fried chicken nuggets are even better than the real ones. It is that good!
It is next to a turkish place who sell bread and desserts. I can't remember the name though. I haven't been to NY since 2004.

Yeah. I've heard Chicago is nicer, though. Both cities are always competing to be the best in America, although New York usually comes up on top. Nevertheless, both cities reflect American prosperity, demographic, vision and might.

On an off topic note, I've heard that Melbourne and Sydney also compete to be the best cities in Australia, although that's another thread.

What you consider the best cities in the world is entirely down to personal opinion. For example, the best cities I've ever visited are Moscow and St Petersburg, both in Russia. Even if I did visit Makkah and Madinah, I'm not sure they'd make a mark on Moscow or St Petersburg. I'm not sure New York will make much of an impression on me after visiting St Petersburg either, although I'm still very excited to go there.

I think it was called big apple tours or something like that. I'll find out for you and let you know. I have visited 25+ countries in my life, and no city has made a mark on me as much as Makkah and Madina.... and no city has made want to return as badly as those two cities.
I mean, other cities are great. I love being immersed in the exciting energy of NYC, I like the beauty of Paris, I enjoy the food and wide spaces in Sydney, but only Makkah and Madina that completely fulfilled both material and spiritual parts of me.

Vegas, NYC, Orlando prep for tourism boost this summer

By Jeff Delong, Charisse Jones and Laura Ruane, USA TODAY
Three of the USA's most popular vacation cities report tourism numbers improving this year, and tourism officials are crossing their fingers for a successful summer travel season.
Skip to: New York | Orlando
VEGAS: New 'value' in Sin City vacation
Tourism officials in Las Vegas say it looks like a safe bet that business is bouncing back as the economy begins a slow recovery and visitors are attracted again to Sin City's famous glitz.
Officials at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority report seven months of growth in tourism. There was a 1.5% jump from January through March of 2010 compared with the same period last year and a 3% increase projected for the year overall, says Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the authority.
After 39.1 million visitors came to Vegas in 2007, visitor numbers dropped to 37.4 million in 2008 and 36.3 million last year, the tourism group reports. The drop in visitors was felt in several areas. Attendance for conventions declined 24% in 2009. Gambling revenue at Vegas casinos fell 10%, and average room rates dipped 22%.
In 2010, the number of visitors is expected to rebound to about 37.5 million, Tull says.

TOURISM: Vegas, NYC, Orlando prep for boost this summer
PHOTOS: A pit stop at South of the Border
"I think there's pent-up demand," Tull says. People want to travel, they want to escape, and Vegas works very well for that."
It works well for Doni Gassaway of Sparks, Nev. Although there are plenty of opportunities close to her hometown in northern Nevada, nothing compares to the excitement of the state's much-larger southern city when vacation time arrives. She and her husband typically hit Vegas three or four times per year.
"I like the night life and the different things to do there," says Gassaway, 45. "The Strip is just fascinating. Every time we go there, we try some place different."
Visitors such as Gassaway bring big bucks. An estimated 85% of visitors to Vegas are leisure travelers, Tull says. They inject an estimated $35 billion into the local economy every year, providing 235,000 jobs, she says.
Vegas hotel-casino properties are taking extra steps to lure visitors to help boost an improving 2010, Tull says. Many are packaging "some really great" room rates in deals incorporating dining, shopping, spas or shows.
"There's value right now in Vegas for travelers," Tull says.

NEW YORK: A resilient attraction
NEW YORK — Millions of visitors are expected to descend on New York this summer as tourism officials tout the city to everyone from the environmentally conscious to the city's neighbors who can get to the Big Apple just by hopping in the car.
Tourism officials estimate that the number of visitors to New York this summer will match the roughly 12 million who came last year and possibly surpass it, says Tiffany Townsend, a spokeswoman for NYC & Co., the city's office of tourism.
"We certainly think there's a potential to see an increase in summer travel," Townsend says.
The number of visitors to New York dipped 3.9% in 2009 from 2008, when the city saw a record 47.1 million tourists, according to NYC & Co.
Tourism is a $30 billion a year industry for New York, and even in the depths of the recession, visitors came. In 2009, the city was the most popular domestic destination for U.S. travelers for the first time in 20 years.
A major international destination, New York drew fewer visitors from overseas last year because of the global economic downturn, contributing to the overall drop in tourism, says Kimberly Spell of NYC & Co. Still, the city was the top U.S. destination for overseas travelers.
City officials are casting a wide net to attract tourists who may be looking for more tailored travel experiences, such as seniors and the environmentally conscious, and they are courting residents of neighboring states, like Connecticut and New Jersey.
"We're … really trying to create a wide range of different incentives for people to travel to New York City in the summer," Townsend says. "We want to focus on people in the tri-state area and within a five-hour driving radius of New York City, as well as … on domestic markets and international markets."
Summer travelers will find special deals for museums, restaurants, shopping and other attractions, she says. In July, the city's office of tourism is even launching a mobile version of its website to give sightseeing visitors an easy way to access information on their cellphones.
Laurent Garipuy, 43, was among the camera-toting crowds milling around Rockefeller Center on a recent morning. It was his fourth trip to New York from his home in Lyon, France. He says it never gets old. "There is no city like New York in the world," says Garipuy, a city engineer. "Not even Paris. It's beautiful, but it's not like New York."

ORLANDO: Harry Potter adds magic
Orlando is counting on vacationers to swoop into town for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, opening June 18 at Universal's Islands of Adventure.
"I'm sure we will check (the Potter attraction) out. I've seen all of the coverage on TV, and it looks awesome," says Pam Attuso, a mother of twin 6-year-old girls who lives in Fort Myers, Fla.
An influx of Potter-philes could be a welcome potion for the city's lifeblood tourism and hospitality trades.
The number of visitors totaled 45.3 million in recession-scarred 2009, down 7.3% from 48.9 million 2008 and down 11% from a record 51 million guests in 2006, the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates.
The first quarter of 2010 brought a 7.5% gain in visitors, year-over-year, for that period.
"With 300 million fans worldwide, we think Harry Potter definitely will increase our visitation," says Gary Sain, visitor bureau president. Harry and his pals won't have to work all of the magic, however, he adds:
SeaWorld's Aquatica water park sports the new Omaka Rocka slide, featuring high-speed tubes, half-pipe flumes and moments of what promoters call "near-weightlessness."
The Main Street Electrical Parade — with live performances and new light-and-sound technology — returns from California to Walt Disney World in early June for a limited engagement.
AirTran is packaging flights with four-night hotel stays, starting at $329 per person.
SeaWorld and Aquatica are offering three-night/three-day unlimited admission to both parks, starting at $690 for a family of four. Book by May 31.
Download the Orlando Magicard free at VisitOrlando.com/deals for year-round savings at more than 75 area businesses.

Ok.
Lool at Moscow some crazy city and freezing cold during the winter.

I went in September, so it was still reasonably warm- well, warm by Russian standards, anyway. And it's just a beautiful city. It's not modern in the same fashion New York is, but boy, does it have a glorious (and bloody) history. It's also massive, and wealthy. I'd love to visit Moscow in Winter, I love cold places. It would certainly be... interesting.

Sad to report that I have met lots of Pakistani "Muslim" butchers who admit to me that the meat they sell is not really Halal. They just put a Halal sign in the window and deceive people. They admit this in private and they tell me that at least 80% of meat suppliers who use the word "Halal" are actually selling Haraam meat. Very sad. :(

I think my original post in this got lost. But, if anyone recalls, this is the tour company I went with when I went to New York. You get an original New Yorker (volunteer) and they'll show you around New York, away from the touristy places. It was really interesting, anyway here is the link - Big Apple Greeter.org

actually I don't think Mutah lives in Cali anymore and Fareed is at another masjid from what I've heard

Btw, the masaajid in NY are NOT active at all. They're pretty dead. Hardly any programs and not many students of knowledge

1- Dawud Adib: Not really a talib'ul 3ilm, just graduated from the arabic program, other than that he's not trustworthy since his slander of Muhammad al Jibaly
2- Musa Richardson: He's from the UK bro.
3- Hassan a'Somali: He's also from the UK
4- Abdullah Lahmami: He's from the UK as well...none of these guys are in NY

Shadeed is alright but he's not in NY anymore, Abu Muhammad is in Jersey, he's the Imam of Masjid Rahmah.

Btw, what are people's fascination with former rappers? I think too often they're glorified not because they reverted but because they were a celebrity, allaahu'3lam.

Sheikh Muhammad al-Jibaly min Madinah?? I know his sons. Sheikh used to lead fajr salaat sometimes at our mosque, then he left for Madinah after few years. He is a good Sheikh Alhamdulillah.

reason is brother if you think about it, for someone like them to accept islam and completly turn their lives around is a big thing compared to other reverts, they're always in the spotlight, they had money and everythin but to give it up for a islamic lifestyle is something

yh I don't like people glorifying them rather people learning from their example, these rappers have bin there and done it all and know its all fake nd temporary happiness, they have a major impact on youths running after dunya and the same things

Barak Allah feek akhi,

Mutah was here in dubai about a couple of months ago, have known him since 2002 2003 and his wife is from out here as well so when ever he comes he visists me n my family and we hang out n take care of business if there is any , and he was just here ntold me how he was studying with fareed abdullah at masjid al mumin, but u might know better since ur there.

N bro i never really said musa richardson n lamhamee n hassan somali are in NY , i was reffering to events that they might attend if there are any in the near future , i am aware of them as well as abu khadeeja n abu hakeem n them.

Where is shadeed now a days ? i think mutah was telling me he is in saudi arabia got a job teaaching english i guess , Allah knows best.

As far as dawud adib goes n the situation u are talking about , first of all i dont know about it, n second i will not talk about it as i have seen hoe people get attcahed to people n create hizbs for their teachers n all , even though if their teacher is refuted with clear evidence n knowledge and even if scholars have refuted them people will come to u n say well i dont like Abu uwais rahimahullah coz he talked about abu usamah! subhnaAllah as if abu usamah was masoom, people are quick to take sides n start defending thier teachers n imams so no matter how much you try to explain it wont help them, this is the problem with hizbiyaah may Allah save us.

Bro people are not even willing to hear a word about amr khalid , aaidh al qarni or al oudah or any of those who have significant errors n mistakes nor will they take the speech of ulamah in regards to them even if saalih al luhian or other scholars refuted them sunhanAllah. may Allah save us from hizbiyaah.any way the slander of al jibaly , did u bro inquire , did u do ur research ? did u see if teh scholrs had said anything about him , did u see if what dawud adib said had any truth to it? or did u just call the man not trustworthy just coz he slandered al jibaly? peopel have told me wallahi that dont listen or promote abu uwais rahimahullah's stuff or recommed him coz he talked about abu usamah! is this the way brother? Is that a valid reason to leave abu uwais? n not just him any one involed with any one who has said any thing against bilal philips or abu usmah is to be abandoned? why coz they tried to correct the errors? is that their fault? subhanAllah!

Any way brother since u are in NY u might know better , i left the states back in 2005 so its been 5 years subhanAllah even though i keep an ear out i still miss a lot of stuff , i find it hard to believe that the masajid like masjid rahma or nur or others are dead, any way who are some of the students of knowledge n teachers there at the moment n whats the situation over there?

n yes subhanALlah the fascination with former rappers is crazy , u should see how people react to Mutah when he is out here , still aksing him if tupac is alive , subhanAllah lol , Inna lilah wa inna ilayhi rajoun,

any way u didnt comment on abu yusuf khaleefah, im sure he is in NY n amir muhadith "loon" is close with him.

bro do u know where is mustafa george ? heard he is in suadi but i also hear he is back in the states?

Yes alhumdolillah he changed a lot lol remmber back in the day i need a girl part 1 n 2 ... astaghfirulah lol , a great brother but a person who has changed more than him probably is mutah napoleon , He has got his documantry comming out soon InshahAllah , n this brother has scarificed a lot as well , i remmber when he quit music , he was at the top of his game , i mean he had dels worth millions with big time distribution n all , big record lables n he was with thsi dude johhny j who did about 200 tupac songs , ( johhny j comited suicide a couple of years ago though) but what im saying i s, This dude mutah sacrificed MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ,trust me i have seen the deals on the paper n on the table n his double cd was ready to come out he even shot the video fo rthe first single n then alhumdolillah he met with shadeed muhammad and some good brothers n started going to a good masjid n he just left it all, wallahi he left millions that he could smell!! may Allah replace him with something better n reward him for that.

same with amir mhadith loon , he came out here to dubai for a show n saw how msulims are , got connected with the right brothers n Allah guided him , got back to states n got with the right brothers like abu yusuf khaleefah n all , so he is only getting strnger n stronger InshahAllah check that video i posted of him from UK though , london.

here is a documantry of mutah napleon
