Assalamualaikum

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “I have not left behind me any fitnah more harmful to men than women.” [Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5096) and Muslim (2741).

“Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet: Women and sons; Heaped- up hoards of gold and silver; horses branded (for blood and excellence); and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world's life; but in nearness to Allah is the best of the goals (To return to). Say: Shall I give you glad tidings of things far better than those? For the righteous are Gardens in nearness to their Lord, with rivers flowing beneath; therein is their eternal home; with companions pure (and holy); and the good pleasure of Allah. For in Allah’s sight are (all) His servants.” {Holy Qur’an, 3:14 -15}

“And among His Signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your [hearts]: verily in that are Signs for those who reflect?” (Qur'an, 30: 21).

Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is reported to have said, which reads as follows: “ Three items of this world were made attracted [or likeable] to me: women, perfume [but] the [utmost] pleasure of my eyes [soul] is in prayer.” [Ahmad and Nisai reported this Hadith].

Allah is the one who has put in every human being the natural desire and inclination for gold, silver, money, transportation, land and other items of this world. Similarly, He has created temptations & sex. He is the One Who has installed that software on our human computers {brains} to create high sexual desires for women in men and for men in women in this world. Out of the desires of a person, the greatest test for a Muslim is how he fulfils this desire. He can either fail this test by unlawful satisfying this desire, or pass this test by fulfilling this desire lawfully through marriage.

“Do men think they will be left alone on saying “WE BELIEVE”, and that they will not be tested? We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false.” {Holy Qur’an- 29:2-3}

“Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight.” {Holy Qur’an, 76:2}

“Or do you think that you shall enter the Garden (of bliss) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? they encountered suffering and adversity, and were so shaken in spirit that even the Messenger and those of faith who were with him cried: "When (will come) the help of Allah." Ah! Verily, the help of Allah is (always) near!” {Holy Qur’an, 2:214}

“He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving.” {Holy Qur’an, 67:2}

“Allah has bought from the believers their selves and their wealth in return for the Garden…” (Holy Qur’an, Surat at-Tawba: 111)

“...Fulfill your contracts. Contracts will be asked about… “ (Holy Qur’an, Surat al-Isra', 34).

“Do not sell Allah’s contract for a paltry price. What is with Allah is better for you, if you only knew.” (Holy Qur’an, Surat an-Nahl, 95)

The life of this world is a test for us. We are all being tested according to the level of our imaan {faith}. The strongest our imaan {faith} is, the hardest our test will be, and we will be rewarded or be punished according to that test in the Akhirah {Hereafter}

“Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere.” [Holy Qur’an 2:155]

“Those who say, when afflicted with calamity, 'To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return.' They are those on whom descend blessings from their Lord, and mercy. They are the ones who receive guidance." (Qur’an, 2:155-157)

When Allah tells us that He created us to test us, this does not mean that He needs to test us in order to find out whether we will do good or evil. He already knows what we will do. Rather, our playing out the actions of this life is merely a proof for or against us on the Day of Judgment.

In order to motivate us to pass this test, it is very important for us to understanding the reward for controlling one’s desires and staying away from evil.

“But those who heed their Lord will have Gardens through which rivers flow, to live in for ever as a welcome from Allah. What is with Allah is better for those who are truly good.” (Qur'an, Surah Al 'Imran, 198)

“It was We Who created man, and We know what dark suggestions his soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein.” {Holy Qur’an, 50:16}.

"Tell the believing men that they should lower their gazes and guard their modesty; that is purer for them. Indeed Allah is well-acquainted with what they do" (Holy Qur’an, 24:30).

It is a command from Allah to His believing slaves to lower their gaze and refrain from looking at that which is forbidden to them. So they should not look at anything except that which they are permitted to look at, and they should lower their gaze and refrain from looking at forbidden things. If it so happens that a person’s gaze accidentally falls upon something forbidden, he should quickly avert his gaze. [Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 3/282]

The Prophet [pbuh] said: (during his farewell Hajj): "Should I inform you of who the Mu'min (true believer) is? It is he who people are secure from him with regards to their wealth and their own selves. The (true) Muslim is he who people are safe from (being harmed by) his tongue and hand. The (true) Mujahid is he who performs Jihad an-Nafs in the obedience of Allah. And the (true) Muhajir (the migrant in the Cause of Allah) is he who abandons error and sin" [Ahmed, al-Haakim and at-Tabaraani].

Yes life is a exam for all of us. ALLAH send us in this world and told to worship him. He wanted to test us how much we love him and obey him. We should follow his rules and make our lives according to the Quran and Sunah.
