UK ministers have put on a united front after Defence Secretary Liam Fox suggested the focus in Afghanistan should move away from reconstruction.
He had said troops were there for UK security not for "the education policy in a broken 13th-century country".
But after talks with Afghan leaders in Kabul he and International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell both stressed their commitment to redevelopment.
Foreign Secretary William Hague refused to set a date for UK troop withdrawal.
Before the talks, which took place on an unprecedented trip to Afghanistan by the three Cabinet ministers, Dr Fox argued in the Times newspaper that British troops were not in the country to fix Afghan society.
If there's one other thing this government has to remain united on aside from the economy, it's Afghanistan. But this is an embarrasing episode for the government.

Let us be cautious of labeling all Westerners. Keep in mind the vast majority of Muslims live West of Makkah.

To be fair, I think Afghanistan was a dump ravaged by so many years of war and little hope
before the West came into the equation.

entire nation? how about their entire civilization! Even historians agree that these backward barbaric hooligans wouldn't have come out of their dark ages of ignorance let alone reach renaissances period (stealing Muslim knowledge and calling it their own) if it wasn't for the Muslims.

SubhanAllah, few days ago our Sheikh talked about something that related to how Muslims were the powerful ones in the Dark Ages, and mostly others were Ignorant and Barbaric. Afghanistan is a graveyard of Empires indeed. may Allah's curse be upon who attack other countries and call it "operation freedom"
"And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers." Surat Al-Baqara 2:11
Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not. Surat Al-Baqara 2:12

here's some more honesty from the british
“The purpose of the Afghan war” is to stop the “return of the Caliphate” – UK General
they've always feared the uprising of a true islamic state
