How to make a speech?

Because I have an English exam to come, I need to know how to make a speech on special occasions such as weddings, school's graduation or Granny's 80th birthday. However, it's just so hard..

How do you bring your ideas out and express them in an interesting and mature way attracting the listeners' attentions.

This might be a common start, but some people start with a catchy quote to get themselves started.

The kind of speech you are meant to give is about someone you know personally. Think of a funny/interesting/cute a anecdote about the person who are will be talking about.

E.g.
Granny - A fond memory you have of her

For school's graduation you could talk about the crazy things and/or rule breaking that your class was famous for. Such things would have been very serious at the time it happened, but are always funny in retrospect.

Towards the end you could make it more serious and say what's so great about the person or your school life and what you've learned from them.

In any talk there are two areas that need particular care.

1. How to start. One does not just want to wade in; you have to give your listeners time to tune in to you and what you want to say. TRY to remember, if all you can do is just tell a story the talk will be over in a flash and no one will be much the wiser. So to begin: tell a story (from a book or one that you know), use an analogy, use a quotation, refer to a song, draw a word picture, demonstrate, paraphrase, create an image in the listeners mind, simplify the story, personify (if I had been the woman etc), devil’s advocate, mirror so ask the audience to be with you in your story. Be careful with humour as it can go very wrong, just let it emerge as you go along.

2. Decide how you want to end. Often in a talk finding a way to wind it up is hard to do so in a way its the first things you need to think about. But do NOT over embellish by adding several points that are not in the essential or find obscure points that no one will understand.
