Alhamdulillaah that you have been able to kick out your drugs habit and I truly commend you for that.
I know it is very hard thing to do once you are hooked on those extremely addictive and damaging substances, as I have a close relative who experienced the same problem to a very dangerous degree.
May Allah SWT give you strength and guidance so you will never touch those or even be near them ever again. amiin.
About your cigarette addiction. You've heard right, smoking (cigarette) IS forbidden. This is the ruling why smoking is haram:

http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/10922/smoking%20haraam
Now, I have never smoked, so I can't give you advice on how to quit smoking and I know it';s hard thing to do, otherwise millions people would have quit it by now.
However, from your info, it seems you have some sort of "addictive" personality, and smoking is just a way to trigger your brain to release endorphins which make you feel good.
So, why don't you take up positive activities which you really enjoy and do not involve haraam things, which will make you feel good and happy.
Also, I've heard regular exercise also helps and have you tried optional fastings (monday-thursday) which can train you to control your craving and very beneficial for your general health, physical and mental. You get a lot of rewards too (as Allah SWT in a hadith qudsi says that fasting is for Him only) and will get you nearer to Allah SWT.
How about hijama (cupping)? Have you heard or considered it? Cupping is one of the sunnah, and if you do it regularly, it detoxifies your body so it will help you in quitting smoking, methinks.
