Wasting time is worse than death!

Ibn Al Qayyim (Ra) says: "Wasting time is worse than death because death seperates you from this world whereas wasting time seperates you from Allah".

Therefore we must make the best use of the precious little time we have left for death is waiting for us around each corner and it will take us very swiftly without delay. It will not wait for us to change tomorrow ore next week. It will take us when our time is up. So when will we decide to change? When it is too late?

So we must act NOW before death takes us for we are gambling with our hereafter! In the next world we will beg Allah for one more chance but by then it would have been too late!

Therefore let us make the necessery changes to our lives right NOW! For tomorrow may never come!

very true subhanAllah

Also, we have to keep in mind that wasting free time is the door to all evils and sins which is the door to the hellfire.

Busy people with good things to do are always less sinning than those who are wasting time in useless and haram things.

May Allah save us

You are right about wasting time opens door to evil, because when we are bored or have nothing to do then that is the time for the satan to start whispering and our minds start wondering everywhere

Assalaam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
Jazakallahu Khair for sharing!

O my world-worshipping soul! Does your slackness in worship and remissness in the prescribed prayers arise from the multiplicity of your worldly occupations, or because you cannot find time due to the struggle for livelihood? Were you created only for this world that you spend all your time on it? You know that in regard to your abilities you are superior to all the animals, but in regard to procuring the necessities of worldly life you cannot compete with even a sparrow. So why can you not understand that your basic duty is not to labour like an animal, but to strive for a true, perpetual life, like a true human being. In addition, the things you call worldly occupations mostly do not concern you, and are trivial matters which you meddle in officiously. You neglect the essential things and pass your time acquiring inessential information as though you were going to live for a thousand years.

Jazakallah Khair for the reminder this life doesnt last forever we should do deeds that will please Allah and better our position in the hereafter.

On the authority of Abdullah ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them both), he relates that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) once held my shoulders and said: “Live in this world as (if you are) a wayfarer or a stranger.” And Abdullah ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: “If you live till night, then do not wait for the next day (i.e. do not have hopes that you will live to the next day), and if you wake up in the morning do not have hope that you will live till the night. And take (advantage) from your health before your sickness and take advantage of your life before your death (i.e. do every possible obedience in your life before death comes to you for then no deeds can be performed.)”

Asalaamu Alaikum, yes you will be rewarded for listening to the Qur'an in which there are many benefits. There is more reward for listening to live recitation than recorded. it is also compulsory to listen attentively when the Qur'an is being recited. It is sinful for the Qur'an to be playing and then one is not paying attention or talking to someone else and not listening to it. It would be better in that case to turn it off rather than to have it merely playing in the background not listening to it attentively. This is disrespectful to the most beautiful words in the Universe.

In regards to the reward of listening to Qur'an recitation:

'Whoever listens to even one verse of the Qur'an will be given double the rewards; and for the one who reads, it will become light on the Day of Resurrection' (Ahmad).

In a hadeeth the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "Whoever reads one letter of the Book of Allaah will have one hasanah (reward) for doing so, and every hasanah will be multiplied by 10. I do not say that `Alif, laam, meem' is one letter, but `Alif' is a letter, `laam' is a letter and `meem' is a letter.'"

So you should recite the Qur'an yourself as much as is possible as this is the greater reward and one gains 10 hasanah (good deeds) by reciting just one letter. Subhanallah! Set yourself a daily target which you feel you can fulfill like 1 juz or half or quarter juz etc.

You must also read the translation and tafseer of the Qur'an so that you can understand what Allah is telling us in the Qur'an and ponder and contemplate over its meanings. The main thing is to act upon and implement whatever you read in the Qur'an into your everyday life and convey the message to others so that they may benefit to inshallah.

And Allah knows best in all matters

Ibn al-Qayyim (RA) says: "The year is like a tree, months are its branches, days
are the branch sticks, hours are its leaves, and the breaths are its fruits.
Therefore, if one's breaths are in obedience [to Allah and His Messenger], the
fruits of his tree are good. If they are in disobedience, his fruits are
bitter. The harvest is on the Appointed Day, when one's fruits are found out to
be either good or bitter."

The Prophet (sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) also said:

"Lose no time to do good deeds before you are caught up by one of seven
calamities awaiting you: a starvation which may impair your wisdom; a
prosperity which may mislead you; an ailment which may damage your health; an
old age which may harm your senses; a sudden death; the Dajjal; or Doomsday,
which is indeed the hardest and most bitter." [at-Tirmidhi]

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Two blessings which many people do not make the most of: good health and spare time.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6412.

So let us make the best use of our health and spare time that we have and not waste a second for each second that is wasted can NEVER be regained and will be a source of HUGE regret on the Day of Judgement!

The time is the life of the servant, it was said by a poet

"...and the time is the most precious thing that you can have concern for preserving--and I see that it is the easiest thing which can be wasted"

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said:

"The wasting of time is more severe than death. That is because the matter of death cuts you off from the worldly life whereas the wasting of time cuts you off from Allaah"

The time is the capital of your wealth. That is because your life which Allaah has decreed for you, He wants that you attain with it the honor of the Deen and the bliss of the hereafter. Therefore if you waste it, the reality of your worldly life will be wasted as well as your hereafter being plundered. There is no (worldly) loss greater upon the servant than the wasting of his time.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said (what means):

"Take advantage of 5 things before 5 things overcome you: Take advantage of your youth before your old age. Take advantage of your health before your sickness. Take advantage of of you life before your death. Take advantage of your richness before you poverty, and take advantage of your free time before becoming preoccupied." [Narrated by al-Haakim on the authority of Ibn Abbaas.]

So the question stands:

Is the wasting of these prize possessions to be considered from the happiness of the Muslim? Therefore with the time the Muslim has the ability to capitalize off of everything that has been mentioned in the hadeeth....

This was taken from: "Tahdheerul-Bashar min Usoolish-Sharr" of The Noble Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdillaah al-Imaam (may Allaah preserve him) Page #57-58, Daarul-Aathaar.

The Slipping Sands of Time

The Exact Time He knows,
When we’ll meet.
Life is short for preparations,
With uncertain final decorations,
Like sand we slip through life’s watch glass,
Silently seeping with gradual movements.

With kohl of gratitude tears,
Mascara of modesty,
Lotion of honesty,
Let us deck ourselves,
In an attire of simplicity,
And forget the worldly woes,
Moving towards the Hereafter.

Pin up the flowing locks,
And lock all worldly locks,
The breeze summons the stony roads,
To move on to the horizon,
And sprinkle the scent of goodness.
Leaves fall like fountains in spring,
Blurred is life’s dusk.

Each day opens a new page,
Of an unknown tale,
Engraved in the rock of time,
Indecipherable script of life.
Let not the sand slip away,
With no time left for goodbyes,
Let us pray before being prayed upon,
Let us turn to Allah before returning to Him.

Whoever wastes his time will inevitably regret losing every single moment of it; and whoever spends a day in his life without discharging a duty, fulfilling a religious obligation, or acquiring some useful knowledge, has indeed wasted that day can squander his whole life in this way. The wise person is one who occupies himself with deeds that are pleasing to his Lord; no sooner does he complete a good deed than he engages in another one. Allah, Glorified be He, says:

"So when you have finished (your occupation), devote yourself to Allah’s worship." (Ash-Sharh: 7)

Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy on his soul, commented on this verse saying, "This means that once you have completed your worldly affairs and tasks and you have broken away from them, then get up to engage in worship of Allah with zeal and complete devotion and purify your intention and desire to serve your Lord."

This life is but a short dream:

Hasan Ali Basri (Ra) Said:

What is this world but a dream that a sleeper sees. He delights in it for a few moments, and then wakes up to face reality.
