Persuasive Speech Topics, any ideas??

I have another speech again..this time I need help choosing a topic!

I'll be doing a persuasive speech and trying to persuade my audience to believe something or agree with me, this does NOT include trying to persuade them to DO something.

It has to be on a contraversial subject (:

any ideas?? (no abortion topics please!)

How about persuading the audience that Islamic economics is better than capitalism.

Here a good starting point:

Growing at an estimated 15 percent annually, Islamic banking and finance is a worldwide industry that modifies modern business practices to conform to the rules of sharia. Central to this field is riba, the charging or payment of interest, banned under Islamic law. Clever twists on standard financial products like credit cards, savings accounts, mortgages, loans, and even trust funds bypass the interest business model. A 2008 report by the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions estimates the Islamic banking industry to stand at $442 billion. Even big name banks such as Citigroup, HSBC, and Deutsche Bank are developing Islamic banking sectors to cater to the demand. The industry is small in comparison to the global market, but may grow as some non-Muslims are turning to sharia-compliant services. Some of the ethically minded are also switching over to sharia-compliant investments. Businesses are required to avoid transactions related to forbidden things, such as weapons, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, pornography and pork, and investors are guaranteed that their money won't end up financing those industries. Governments are also looking to get a piece of the pie: Malaysia is the largest issuer of sharia-compliant bonds and Indonesia launched its own in January 2009.

A lot will depend upon your expected audience. I am assuming that your expected audience will be young college students from a multitude of backgrounds and having limited work experience. A good subject to use in a persuasive speech would be to present the view that for income purposes a non-college education is the best choice. Showing that specialized training in a technical field often brings the highest income with the lowest education outlay. ie: A skilled aircraft engine mechanic can earn more money than a PhD level Biologist.

walaikum assalam, there are loads of topics you can choose from. But if you are doing a persuasive speech, it might be a good idea to choose a topic you are really passionate about and believe in.

Maybe this would be a good and controversial topic. You can argue for and against and theres plenty of material on the net to guide to inform you.

Is the UK a ‘surveillance society’? Has there been an increase in either (or both) the scale or nature of formal or informal regulation of the behaviour of individuals and targeted groups? Are people in the UK subject to more surveillance and regulation than those in other countries? If so, why might this be the case? Is this acceptable? If not, what are the flaws in the arguments of those who criticise the level of regulation and surveillance in the UK?

Last year in My English class I did a 10 minute argumentative speech on why polygamy should be legalized. I add many supporting points, and disputed the reasons why people are against it. Personally I am on the fence about polygamy but there is not reason for it being illegal.

Try this for size:

The War on Boys. Google for juvenile sex offenders and you will find many surprising things. Oddities like teenage boys found guilty of looking up the skirt of a girl being put on a sex offenders list which is publicly available, thus boosting their popularity ratings and employment prospects. Assuming they are planning on a career as permanent member of the Society of Perverts and Other Sundry Excrements.

You can slant your talk towards making this discrimination against young boys more pervasive. Like putting electronics tags on their offending members. Or you can argue for the case of fair play and even-handed justice. Your choice.

Actually it's the title of an article I am working on for an website dedicated to the wonderful experience of fatherhood. Just sharing this so that you might have a nice juicy topic to talk about. Insha Allah.

Well, if you want to speak on a controversial subject, why don't you try to persuade the audience that Islamic punishments are a lot more effective (and a lot less cruel to society as a whole) than the western approach to punishment (incarceration).

Jazakum allahu khair for all of your replies :D
I didn't want to do anything on islam, I'm the only muslimah in my entire university (small uni), so it would be awkward to write something about polygamy or Islamic punishment when my audience may not even know much about Islam anyway.

I decided to do something about the unhealthiness of food additives..and I am pretty passionate about food so I guess it's something I could speak with enthusiasm about :D

Our next speech will be about trying to persuade the audience to do something, so I'll probably be needing some topics for that if any of you want to volunteer again :D
