The Gradual Prohibition of Alcohol in Islam
By
Bassam Zawadi

Moderate drinkers most likely become heavy drinkers anyway so why the risk? Islam does not like to take risks. It ensures the safety of society. There is no necessity at all for drinking alcohol in any way and should be totally prohibited even if it takes force to do so (just like the fight on drugs).

Additionally then can't a Christian use the same argument. “Now if it is okay for me to drink but not get drunk, it is also okay for me to smoke marijuana and not get high”?

That's basically just agreeing with what's pretty well known:moderation is the hardest thing to do. It's a lot easier to abstain or go full out rather than partaking in something in moderation (be it alcohol or oreos ;D)

Oh and another thing: you can't smoke marijuana and not get high.

^ i think moderation is the easiest thing to accomplish. :hmm: if you adopt one extreme, chances are that you're going to adopt the opposite extreme soon after. but moderation, you're always in the middle. not too much and not too little, both which result in a negative outcome.

Greetings and peace be with you truthseeker63;

In theory it sounds good, but human nature being what it is, we cannot make it happen. Sex should be banned totally; it leads to pornography, adultery and prostitution.

In the UK we have horrible graphic pictures on cigarette packets showing the dangers of smoking, and guess what, millions of people smoke.

We make our mistakes on this Earth, and God will help us put all things right in a greater good life after death.

In the spirit of searching for God

The bolded part is quite true.

To each their own I suppose, but I guess it really comes down to willpower of individuals (some are stronger than others).

We had prohibition in the past, all it did was create crime and corruption. If you force people not to do something it then becomes more appealing.

Exactly. It's best to let people live their lives and make their choices.
