“People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
… Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
… Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
… Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
… Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
… Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
… Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
… Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
… Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.”

Greetings and peace be with you all, the following was in our church newsletter this week....

We must always be open to God’s love no matter where we find it. St. Thomas Aquinas said,
“If it is true then it is from the Holy Spirit.” In the thirteenth century, when Christians demonised
Muslims even more than they do today St. Francis told his friars that if they found a page of the Koran
that led them to love God they should kiss it and place it on the altar. I pray that wherever you find or
discover the love of God let your conscience be at rest.

Prayer is also a workout for the soul. It’s a chance to let out your inner feelings to the Hearer and Responder. Every complaint, every desire, every worry, every hope, every anguish, every emotion – this is the time to let it all out. Let those tears flow. Let it come from the heart. Stand up in the depths of night and converse with your Lord Who will listen and respond to you – simply express to Him what you feel.

"Repel the thought, for if you don't, it becomes an idea. So repel the idea, for if you don't it will become a desire. So fight against that (desire), for if you don't, it will become a determination. And if you don't repel that, it will become an action. And if you don't replace it with it's opposite, it will become a constant habit. So at that point, it will be difficult for you to change it."

Man is dillusional into thinking he can elevate himself to the planes of God when man cannot even re-create a fly nor has man found the cure to a common Cold. Mankind knoweth not the true power and magnificence of God for he is foolish enough to compare himself to the creator when he himself is a mere creation dependant and vulnerable and reliant on the mercy of God.

Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Rizq and ‘Ali bin Ahmad bin ‘Umaar al-Muqri both said: Ja’far bin Muhammad al-Khaldee informed us” Ibraaheem bin Nasr al-Mansoori narrated to us: Ibraaheem bin Bashaar narrated to me: Yusuuf bin Asbaat narrated to me: Muhammad bin Samurah as-Saa’ih wrote the following letter to me:

"O brother! Beware of letting procrastination take control of you and letting it take a firm root in your heart, for indeed it is the cause for fatigue and wasting (of time). Due to it, aspirations are cut short and appointed times are not met. If you allow this to happen you have let it free you from your resolutions, and in effect, take you over. And reclaim your body from the lethargy that overtook you. But when it returns back to you, your soul will not benefit from your body. And hasten, my brother, for indeed you are being hastened. And rush, for indeed you are being rushed. And be serious, for indeed, the matter is serious. Awaken from your sleep, and snap out of your heedlessness. And remember what you have left behind, what you fell short in, what you neglected, what crimes you committed and what deeds you did, for indeed that is recorded and you will be held accountable for it. So it is as if the matter has come upon you all of a sudden and so you are (either) happy at what you have put forth for it or remorseful for what you have neglected.''

THE PARADOX OF OUR AGE
By the Dalai Lama

We have bigger houses but smaller families;
more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees, but less sense;
more knowledge, but less judgement;

more experts, but more problems;
more medicines, but less healthiness.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.

We build more computers
to hold more information,
to produce more copies then ever,
but have less communication.

We have become long on quantity,
but short on quality.
These are times of fast foods,
but slow digestion;

Tall men but short character;
Steep profits but shallow relationships.
It’s a time when there is much in the window,
but nothing in the room.

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meaness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whomever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

"Death is NOT a fullstop, but merely a comma in the sentence." -- unkown

And I absolutely agree with Hulk's signature "Stay away from kibr". I have always tried to live by this principle (stay away from pride/be humble) and I have found that those who don't, often fail in many tasks. Pride is serving yourself; Being pious is serving God.

Both the Qur'aan and the Bible condemn pride.

1 tip: Don't complain today, rather thank God for just 1 blessing (at least).

"When God takes His people into the darkness, He goes with them." I don't know who wrote this quote, (and I paraphrased it, since I don't it word-by-word) but this is certainly worth remembering. I don't remember the whole quote, so I don't think the word "darkness" was used--since it is a harsh word--but maybe it was something like "troubles" or "hardships".

Last quote :) : "The best way to predict the future is to make it happen!"--this is my new favourite quote :) I often find myself making a mental list of all the goals I wish to accomplish (such as writing a book) but I must admit, that I haven't been doing anything to reach these goals of mine... :(

I hope you will remember some of these quotes :)

Do you not think that the roof of that room will be blackened? In the same way the heart is blackened by disobedience. And nothing wipes it clean except repentance to God. ^ Yep, how true.....

Look at the ones who have struggled the most in life, who have suffered many losses.....how humbling are these experiences (in most cases).

(So, look at your trials as those periods in your life that are, insha Allah, helping to mould you into a better person......)

“Some people have the disease of criticizing all the time. They forget the good about others and only mention their faults.

They are like flies that avoid the good and pure places and land on the bad and wounds. This is because of the evil within the self and the spoiled nature.”

Once Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) said to Al-Ahnaf bin Qais (Radi Allahu Anhu):

“Oh Ahnaf, the more one laughs, the less dignity will he possess.
Whoever jokes (excessively) is a person who will be taken lightly.
Whoever does something frequently will known by that thing.
Whoever speaks often, errs often; the more often one errs, the less modesty he will possess; Whomever has a low level of modesty will also have a low level of piety; and when one has a low level of piety, then his heart dies.”
When advising another man, Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) said,

“Do not speak about that which does not concern you.
Know your enemy and be wary of your friend, except for the trustworthy one. And no one is trustworthy, except for the person who fears Allah.
Do not walk with the evildoer, lest he teaches you some of his evil; and do not reveal your secrets to him.
And when you consult others in your affairs, consult only those who fear Allah ‘Azza wa jall.”

'Umar ibn AbdulAziz used to say to his soldiers, "You must fear disobeying Allah more than you fear your enemy. If you do not, then Allah will forsake you." And there is nothing our attackers can do that will be worse than the loss of nearness to Allah.

Don't judge a person by what others say.
The person may be true to you, But not to others...

"When a person makes dua he finds in this dua a way out of the problems he is facing. No matter how great the problem is he realises that there is an exit from this problem through dua. So his spirits are lifted and he is optimistic about his situation. Dua gives him hope and increases his trust in Allah's mercy. It opens up a door that shows him the escape from the cage of problems that he is in, and it lights up the path that grants him an exit from his darkness." - Shaykh Yasir Qadhi

Bukhari Volumn 007, Book 071, Hadith Number 606.
-----------------------------------------
Narated By Ibn 'Abbas : Allah's Apostle said, 'Nations were displayed before me; one or two prophets would pass by along with a few followers. A prophet would pass by accompanied by nobody. Then a big crowd of people passed in front of me and I asked, Who are they Are they my followers?" It was said, 'No. It is Moses and his followers It was said to me, 'Look at the horizon.'' Behold! There was a multitude of people filling the horizon.
Then it was said to me, 'Look there and there about the stretching sky! Behold! There was a multitude filling the horizon,' It was said to me, 'This is your nation out of whom seventy thousand shall enter Paradise without reckoning.' "Then the Prophet entered his house without telling his companions who they (the 70,000) were.
So the people started talking about the issue and said, "It is we who have believed in Allah and followed His Apostle; therefore those people are either ourselves or our children who are born m the Islamic era, for we were born in the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance.'' When the Prophet heard of that, he came out and said. "Those people are those who do not ask to be treated with Ruqya[*], nor do they believe in bad or good omen (from birds etc.) nor do they get themselves branded (Cauterised). but they put their trust (only) in their Lord " On that 'Ukasha bin Muhsin said. "Am I one of them, O Allah's Apostle?' The Prophet said, "Yes." Then another person got up and said, "Am I one of them?" The Prophet said, 'Ukasha has anticipated you."
----------------
[*] Ruqya is to treat/protect ourselves against illness and evils with dhikr from Quran and sunnah. It's recommanded that one should learn to make ruqya by himself and address Allah directly, and not ask others to make ruqya for him, although it's permissible.
