I'm always ill. At least once in a week I'm down with something bad. I've informed my doctor but she says I just don't have a balanced diet. I know this is not true because I eat everything. I started to have vitamin supplements to boost my immune system but they only work short term.. Has anyone else experienced such a problem? And if so, what have you done to overcome your frequent illnesses? jazak'Allah

I haven't, but have you tried for a more "natural" diet? More fruits and vegetables with healthy food choices. I used to have a lot of problems with migraines until I switched my diet to include more fruits, vegetables, fish, and chicken. After awhile I stopped getting them as much.

Has the doctor run tests on you? A number of things could affect your immune system, not just what you eat.

Salaam Sister

Could you have anemia? Has your doctor/GP checked your ferritin levels?

1. I used to be down with the flu almost every month or so. But after I started taking black seed oil regularly (a tablespoon with a cup of tea) I noticed I was getting better day by day.

2. Try to eat as much fresh fruits and vegetables as you can daily.

I used to have this same problem. The doctor ran tests and I found out that I have anemia.

What worked for me was changing my diet. Eating more natural and healthy foods and making sure that I got enough sleep and drinking water did the trick. I'd occasionally take fiber to regulate my digestive system but after that I felt better :)

Inshallah one of our Dr members will find this thread and be able to offer more detailed advice. At the moment it is very possible you do have a vitamin deficiancy. There is no better way to cure that than a well balanced diet daily. Not just a few days a week. Vitamin supplements are good to take, but they are seldom of much benefit in resolving chronic vitamin deficiancy. You could have a malabsorbtion issue and if that is the case supplements are useless.

There are many reasons a person can have a vitamin deficiancy. Poor nutrition is the most common. But there can be other cause. Those have to be found before they can cured.

There are also many other diseases/illnesses/disorderes that can cause frequent "sick" days. some serious and some pretty much harmless. Some of the more serious are:

Lupus
Fibromyelgia
Crohn's disease
Endocfine Disorders

these can be very difficult to diagnose and usually the diagnosis is done by the process of elimination. At the moment the best option is to listen to your Doctor and follow her instructions exactly, without fail. I believe if she does not see any improvement she will work on something else and/or send you to a specialist.

it could be chronic sinusitis, nothing to do with anemia! I had no runny nose, no post-nasal drip, no facial pain, just clogged feeling in the head and frequent bouts of illnesses. It was making me ill and mild temperature every other week. Perhaps you have that. Get it checked out.

But it could be issues with a non-balanced diet. Make sure you are taking proper vit b12, Fe, vit K, vit C and vit D etc stuff.

I am most definitely NOT a doctor, but I can let you know a couple of things that helped me when I was consistently under the weather. Always check with your physician, but I don't believe these would be harmful to very many people.

First off, try to get at least some exercise and fresh air every day, even if it is just a leisurely walk around the block (or roll, if you happen to be chair-bound). Being outside is in many cases better than being inside . . . even in large cities, the air contaminants INSIDE the home can be worse than OUTSIDE because of cleaners, pesticides, paint, building materials, mold, etc. If a daily walk isn't possible due to crime or it truly is just too dirty in your area for your health, try to make it to a public garden or park once a week and spend some time outside.

Drink plenty of water. Cutting out sodas and flavored drinks and replacing it with a glass of water is SO much better for your health. If you find that you don't drink much during the day, make it a habit to take a drink of water before every meal, and with your meal. Keep a refillable water container with you at all times. Lack of water - and I do mean water, NOT just fluids - can contribute to bad digestion, headaches, sleeping problems, and general feelings of ill health.

Cut out smoked foods, such as smoked fish, cheeses, and the like. These can cause migraines in many people, and especially in people on several varieties of medications. Replace these with non-smoked varieties.

Use natural sweeteners instead of processed sugars in your cooking. In baking you can often substitute juices for water and sugar; many websites can help you in making conversions. And don't forget the virtues of honey, which the Prophet (saw) said could cure any ills!

And don't forget to regularly check your cabinets to make sure that your food is halal . . . just today I learned that one of my favorite chip (I guess you would say crisp) manufacturers was now using pork fat to add flavor to their "all natural and healthy" chips, instead of just baking them as they originally had!

Allah keep you in His grace, and be thankful for His challenges in this life, for the rewards in Jannah will be great, Allah knows best!

Can you describe your illnesses a little more. Every week you come down with something bad, do you run a fever, productive or non productive sneezing/coughing, bowel problems, rash, pain, weakness, etc?

Muslim women requires milk, especially in northern countries. They dont get milk, or sun, and get sick.

Your not fat, are you? Cause then you should use the way of diet which the prophet used. 1/3 bread 1/3 water 1/3 empty.

jazak'Allah for your kind suggestions. I took a blood test about 2 weeks ago and the results showed I'm a little low on iron and VERY low on vitamin D - the doctor says its because I'm not getting enough of the sun as I cover myself so she prescribed some vitamin D supplements. I take them twice a day but once again I'm ill today :(
My parents think its because of the amount of weight I've lost over the last few years and this is what is causing the weakness. I went from 'beach ball' to 'tooth-pick'.
I'm going to take good care of my diet now.. and possibly book another appointment with my doctor and hear what she says.

Ohh. :) Yes I was very sure that you had D-vitamin problems, because of the reason that hijabi girls don't get enough sun.

If you can't get that much sun (because u wear hijab, or live in a cold country) you need d-vitamin through milk. 2-3 glasses of milk daily. and rest of it water. and in special occasions drink soda/juice/ or wutever you wish. =)

When you eat, don't worry. Fat is healthy.

Its always a bad flu + high temperature. Sometimes I have frequent body aches due to the flu as well.
