If You Have Been Facing Hardships

If you have been facing hardships and difficulties, if you have been undergoing pain, frustration, anger, depression and sadness over the troubles that have been your lot, find consolation in one thing. Remember people or those who were and are afflicted with more trials than you.

The best thing you can do is think about the trials of Prophet Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa sallam.

How would you feel if the entrails of a camel were placed upon your head?

Well, that's what our Rasul salallahu alayhi wa sallam went through. People put those disgusting things upon his head while he was praying.

And what other things did he salallahu alayhi wa sallam have to endure?

In preaching his message to people, his feet bled, his face was fractured.

He was besieged in a mountain pass until he was forced to eat tree leaves.

He was driven out of Mecca, his homeland.

His front tooth was broken during battle.

His wife was accused of wrongdoing.

70 of his companions whom he loved dearly were killed.

He lost his sons and most of his daughters.

Sometimes he would even tie a stone around his stomach to alleviate the pangs of hunger.

Our beloved Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam was accused of being a poet, a magician, a soothsayer, a madman and a liar.

Then think about others, such as Prophet Zakariyah alayhi salam whose body was sawed into two pieces and Prophet Yahya alayhi salam who was beheaded.

Prophet Musa alayhi salam suffered great trials.

Prophet Ibrahim alayhi salam was thrown into the fire.

Think about Umar radhiallahu anhu. He was assassinated. So was Uthman and Ali radhiallahu anhum .

Many scholars in the past have been flogged, imprisoned or tortured. Think of Ibn Taymiyya and Abu Hanifa radhiallahu anhum

The messengers of God and the righteous men and women of the times gone by gave their lives for the cause of Truth.

The trials and hardships that came their way cannot be compared to the trials that we face.

Our trials pale considerably in comparison.

So let us think about those brave men and women and be inspired by their courage and bravery and to learn to be patient, for they were patient until the help of Allah rescued them from their distress. And in the Hereafter, they are sure to receive their reward in full.

Allah tells us that the help of Allah is always near. We just need to be patient. Allah is with the patient ones. So take heart, my friends. And be happy. Today is all that we have. Let us then rejoice that we are Muslims and that Allah chose to guide us to the Straight Path. That is all that matters in the end.
