View Full Version : Would you consider it haraam to stay at a Las Vegas casino hotel?

I recently went to Las Vegas on vacation and stayed at a casino hotel on the strip. As I was walking through the casino floor to exit one morning, I noticed what I believe to be an Islamic family waiting in the hotel check-in line. And while while I realize I can't say for certain that they were Muslims, the women looked to be wearing Islamic hijab, and I'm not the type who classifies every Sikh or Hindu I see as a Muslim due to non Western clothes. I was wondering if the Muslims on here would consider staying at such a hotel acceptable assuming you didn't partake in forbidden activities. Vegas in general seems like a strange holiday destination to me for a Muslim to begin with considering how much of the entertainment in the city centers around alcohol, gambling, and women who aren't exactly modestly dressed in the Western sense much less by Islamic standards.

Personally I wouldn't hesitate to stay in one because face it, the deals are AWESOME, but the haraam activities don't have any draw for me (they didn't even before I reverted). I'd still love to go to Vegas to see the shows, and am still bummed I missed out on Sigfried and Roy, may Allah continue to help Roy in his recovery. :)

The act of staying in Las Vegas? I wouldn't go so far as saying it was Haram... Haram isn't a word that should just be thrown around... But yeah, Las Vegas isn't a place a Muslim can really do anything in, but as long as there's no participation in forbidden activities, I don't think it's really wrong for someone to be there and maybe catch a few shows... The fact that the city itself is so covered in sin however would probably make it a rather disliked vacation choice by most people, and it's probably a better option to just stay away. But like I said, I don't think we can say it's Haram.

If they had come to Nevada for a legitimate purpose, it could very well have been the only option they had for lodging. There are some halal businesses in Nevada one of which is the beginning of large date farms. Right now Nevada is getting to be a large producer of dates. Perhaps they came as consultants for the date farmers? We do not know why they were in Las Vegas, any thing we say is conjecture and guesses.

Just to show why their trip may be related to Date growing: LINK
