Chinese social and government structure is about authority and control, and the central authority provides stability for such a huge country and create stable environment that is necessary to unite the country and to ensure that economic development goes as fast and as strong as it does now.

and hence the chinese government is very paranoid of anything that may be seen as undermining that central authority.
Any other social structure such as religions/faith etc that grows strong and challenge that authority must be restricted and regulated.
The muslims in xinjiang are treated as if they want to break away from China, and hence the government create programs to move han chinese to xinjian areas to dilute the influence of xinjiang muslims, and any demand by muslims for more autonomy is squashed immediately. This also happened in Tibet.

That's sad to hear, alot of oppression in this world, pretty much everywhere. May Allah(swt) help the oppressed.

The Prophet(pbuh) said to always help those that are oppressed, but no one ever does anything.
