Assalaam-O-Alaikum

May the Lord you service be with you all the days of your life.
Hello Dear Friend.
I am a 15 year old girl who is currently studying Islam. This is a project for my history class, and my teacher asked me to do Islam because we are studying the different world religions, and we are not allowed to do our own religion. I have read some of the Qu'arn because i really want to learn about this religion- even though i am a Christian and have been raised this way since i was little. :) . I do not like to judge people and i know that alot of Christians have done some stupid things (Like burning the Qu'arn as well as other things, mainly the things associated with White Mans Burden) anyway what i am try to get at is to try to understand "the regular Muslim", I know that there are girls out there who have perhaps had experiences similar to my own- because as everyone can see the whole world is going down the tube, people dont want a higher power, weather that be Allah (all due respects) Buddha (All due respects) or Jesus Christ (all due respects) and those of us who have a faith of any kind are looked at like zoo animals, or so it seems. I know how it feels, perhapes not on the scale of those that your magazine targets, with things such as wearing the Hijab (something that i really respect because i know that i am to weak to do something like that, i try to conform i suppose to the secular world, something that i am trying to work on to not do to better understand myself and my God.) Well anyway, i shall try to cut to the point, I really want to know! Everything, what the Qu'arn tells you. What you believe, Verses that "speak" to you. Metaphorically said of course. I would like to know both sides of Islam, the horrible one that you see in the news, and the one that is peaceful, since i have heard that Islam is a peaceful religion. Anyway Thank you for your time.

May your house never fall, your love never fail, your word never die, and your hope never be extinguished, May your God bless you as you have blessed others. May the word of your mouth reach others and may the sword of your heart kill the evil that tries to intrude upon your joy.

Blessings.

Peace Justicia Manquera,

Welcome to Islam Forums. I'm glad to hear you've taken a positive interest about Islam and I hope you can learn alot here =) When you ask what is Islam, a person can honestly talk to you for a lifetime, there's so many amazing things about this way of life (Islam is a way of life).

I'll just try and sum some things up for you -

- Muslims fundemtal and basic beliefs are; There is One God (Allah means God in Arabic, you can call Him as either), Muhammad(peace be upon him) is the last messenger of God, we believe in All the messengers, we believe in All the scriptures revealed by Messengers of God, we believe in the Angels/Jins and finally we believe in the Last day (judgement day). If you don't believe these things, then you can't be a Muslim.

- We believe that Adam(pbuh) all the way to Muhammad(pbuh) were all Prophets of God. This includes Jesus(pbuh) and Moses(pbuh), we believed they all came with the message of the Oneness of God and to worship no one but Him alone. They are all Muslims (Muslim means submission to the One True God), all the Prophet's were Muslims. Even the Prophet's bow'd down in postration to God, check this video out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDQ7VqSTMxc

- Jesus(pbuh) is regarded as one of the most blessed Prophets of God. And we Muslims believe that he will one day return, right before Judgement Day. We believe that he will come and lead the Muslims. On the day of Judgement, he will also clear all misconceptions about his divinity, in fact it's revealed in the Quran how the scene plays out.

- Mary(pbuh) is regarded as one of the Greatest women in creation. There's a WHOLE CHAPTER about Mary(pbuh) in the Quran, talking about her struggles and the birth of Jesus(pbuh). Chapter Mary(pbuh) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLir0mDoaMo

- Nearly 2 billion people give Zakat (charity) every year. In the Quran and Hadith it's so strongly encouraged, as an organization Islam gives the most amount of Charity to the poor every single year.

- We believe in the Bible, but we also believe it is corrupt (changed/edited) etc.

O People of the Book! there has come to you Our Messenger who unfolds to you much of what you had kept hidden of the Book and passes over much. There has come to you indeed from Allah a Light and a clear Book. (Ch.5:V.16)

Any practicing Muslim would be one who Prays 5 times a day, an evironmentalist (were taught to not destroy plants/tree's etc.), animal carers, Human rights protectors, Charity, Educators (were encouraged to seek knowledge, not just in religion but in life aswell, take a look back in history in the Islamic Golden age which many Historians (non muslim historians aswell) have called it the Golden age of Humanity. Many great inventions that helped shape the modern era.),

the first impression while reading ur post, i feel ur a nice person. i wish allah swt guide u the right.
about the 2 pictures of islam, i say there is only one picture of islam. its a peacful, and greatest gift of GOD. the other picture u are talking about is the picture that is shown by western media is a distorted one. media is playing big game to make islam ambigious/ confused/complex and they are using sometime shortcomming in some muslims and sometimes by exposing the muslims action in distorted way.
for example islam never allows to kill any innocent person at any cost and in islam its a biggest sin. its very very clear and no ambigiouty in it, but now media by using some ppl, had cofused ppl all over the world that islam is religion of terrorism. however the reality is the biggest terrorist is one who killed hundered thousand of innocent ppl children, women in irq, afghanistan and pakistan. now if i say christianity teaches terrorism bcz americans had killed thosands ppl in world and they are christains, surely it will be wrong. similarly there is no wrong in islam and ther is no 2nd pic of islam as shown by media. We need to learn islam and follow it for the sake of success and peace in both lives.
