:sl: A quick question about Yusuf (as). When he entered the area where the women were cutting the fruit, to what extent did the women cut their hands. Was it a superficial cut on their wrists or a very deep cut into the wrists? :wa:

This event is mentioned in Surah Yusuf : 31

It's better if you ask someone who capable to make tafseer of Al Qur'an if you want to know what happened with those women.

Wrists? The qur'an did not specify which part of the hands, or how deep the cuts were.
In the Qur'an it is narrated as "hands".

Sahih International
So when she heard of their scheming, she sent for them and prepared for them a banquet and gave each one of them a knife and said [to Joseph], "Come out before them." And when they saw him, they greatly admired him and cut their hands and said, "Perfect is Allah ! This is not a man; this is none but a noble angel." (QS.Yusuf:31)

The words that used in Indonesian official of Qur'an translation is melukai (jari) tangan (injured (fingers) hands). It's means, according to Indonesian Mufaseer, those women injured their fingers, not cut their hands.

The Arabic words in this particular ayah is وَقَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ now this means they cut their hands, not their fingers, however the Arabic meaning for أَيْدِيَهُنَّ can be translated as hand or wrist or both. However to the extent to which they cut it is unknown. The whole point was to emphasise on the beauty of Yusuf AS.

Yes, this is what I was always taught since a elementary school (SD). Which makes more sense, because when you cut fruits, sometimes you accidentally cut your own fingers.

:sl: Jazakallah to everyone for clarifying, I've always been fascinated with the story of Yusuf(as) and his beauty. It's always remarkable for me to read that he had half of the world's beauty. :wa:
