View Full Version : Bleeding While Doing Wudu?

Salam,

I am really confused about whether bleeding from a wound / cut breaks Wudu, from what i have read, bleeding from wounds and cuts does not invalidate Wudu.

I have a problem where due to the weather my lips get very dry and bleed tiny amounts.

If I am bleeding a tiny amount from a wound / cut in a place that we have to wash in wudu e.g. arms face etc, can i do Wudu... would blood prevent water from reaching the skin and so make Wudu not valid?

Please reply as soon as possible.

Thank You.

Question: I had an operation and I have to take pills to stop the pain. I have bleeding most of the month while I use pills I have to take them non-stop. The bleeding may stop for a few days, sometime for weeks, so, I can perform prayers normally. I took the Fatwa that I will stop praying for 7 days and pray for the rest of the month if the bleeding is still there. Sometimes it stops for a week and starts again so I stop praying again. Please tell me whether I am doing the right thing or I have to do it some other way.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.*

As long as your bleeding is continuous, you have to follow these steps: clean yourself from impurity, use an absorbent, make Wudu and then perform each prayer on its fixed time, even if the bleeding continues during prayer since it is a necessity. You may combine al-Zuhr with al-'Asr prayer at their time, and al-Maghrib with al-'Isha prayer at the time of one of them. You must not leave offering prayers except in those days when you used to have your period before having the problem of continues bleeding. If your menstrual period was seven days, then you should give up praying seven days, if the period was six days then, you should leave prayers only for that period and so on.

Allah knows best.

Question:

As-Salamu `alaykum. Does bleeding break one's ablution (wudu')?

Answer:

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother in Islam, may Allah bless you for your question, which emanates from a heart that fears Allah, since it shows your commitment to Prayer, which is the cornerstone of Islam, and purification, which is regarded by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as half of the faith. We would like to commend your pursuit to gain Islamic knowledge.

Regarding your question, there is an agreement among Muslim scholars that bleeding from the two natural orifices breaks wudu'. Bleeding from a cut or wound, however, does not break wudu'.

In response to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

"Bleeding from any of the natural orifices (anus, urethra or vagina) definitely breaks one's wudu'. This is the general consensus among the scholars.

Bleeding from a cut or wound, however, does not break one's wudu'. This is supported by strong evidence in the primary sources of Islam and is endorsed by the Salaf (the pious predecessors). It is common knowledge that the Companions used to pray while they were bleeding from their wounds. Caliph `Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed while bleeding from stab wounds. The above rule also applies to blood taken for medical tests."

a bro just pointed out that according to Hanafi Madhub , bleeding does break ablution .

If any one has related fatwa according to Hanafi Madhab , pl. post it here.

I remember a story where Hazrat Omar ra or Hazrat Ali ra was injured by arrow . He or Prophet pbuh told others that when he will perform salat , then try to pull it out ; so that he can't feel the pain .

Was that nafal / extra salat ? Otherwise how he kept praying if blood comes out and his ablution was broken ?
