I was just wondering if it haraam to kill house spiders? I dont think house spiders can survive outdoors so even if I tried to let it out it would probably die anyway?

Salaam Brothers

I am not keen on spiders myself...but my kids hate them.

I always remind my children, that Allah (swt) has created everything with a purpose and spiders too are an important part of his beautiful creation.
I finally remind myself and the children that we are lot bigger than the spiders and therefore we are much more scarier to a spider than vice-versa.

What makes you say they can't survive outside?

spiders can survive outdoors. they were not created inside a house.

Just keep your house clean. spiders build web inside a house if there are insects and bugs. And bugs and insects are in the house if there are food lying around for them.

Jazak Allah for all the great suggestions. I think the key is to try and take measures to stop them getting in, in the first place. Definitely not a big spider fan myself but I'll try not to kill them inshallah.

I hate spiders. They freak me out. Probably my biggest fear is spiders. If they are outside the house I leave them alone, but if they come into my house, they violate the non-aggression pact of 2005 and must be destroyed.

The same goes for bees and wasps that get into the house. I killed a big wasp that got into the house the other day with bug spray. I wasn't getting close enough to swat it and risk being stung, so I sprayed it from a distance, then flushed it down the toilet in case it came back to life to sting me.

Insects outside the house are fine. They belong outside. But when they get into my house, it is an act of war. Like UnderArmor says, I must protect my house...

I came across a product called Spider Catcher , its basically a long pole with sort of a brush at the end that can be used to pick up a spider ( from a distance :) ) without killing it.

I don't think you can just kill a spider... You know that spider could testify against you on the day of judgement, no joke.

If I see a spider, I just pick it up and put it outside, simple solution :)

Earwigs can...

I found a spider on my bed just a few days back, and flicked it off.

But last night, I went down to make some pasta at 1am and found a tiny mouse stuck on the sticky mouse trap paper my mother had left for it. It was squeeking and struggling to get free. I hate mice and rats, but seeing this poor little thing smaller than my thumb made me feel bad for it. And I know they are full of disease and stuff so didn't want to go near it. However, I found myself standing there for the longest time just looking at it struggle, and finally I said Bismillah and grabbed a kitchen paper and pulled the tiny mouse off the sticky stuff... I was expecting it to struggle, but it was calm in my grip - which was light, because I didn't want to hurt it...

... I then opened the garden door and let it out.

A few hours later at Sahoor/Sehri, my mother asked me why there was kitchen paper stuck to the rat trap paper, and I told her. She told that I should have just let it die but I couldn't and related what actually happened, including my fear of touching it, and me saying Bismillah and how calm the lil bugger was in my hand. My mother laughed and laughed and that's the end of the story.

I hope it survived the night, and didn't get caught by the neighbours cat momo...

Spiders are beautiful. I am struck in awe at Allah Subhan Wa Ta Ala's creation as they are so small...and just amazing.. how could I stamp on such a thing?

I generally leave them be if they're out of the way or escort them outside. Unless they pose a threat, [earwigs etc etc] Squishing them is senseless in my opinion

It was the angels who were given command to conceal prophet SAW and Abu Bakr ra when they were hiding inside the cave:

If you do not aid the Prophet - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. (QS. At Taubah:40).

As for the spiders web and pigeons nest, there are some hadith, but the authenticity of those hadith are not shahih.

I once went swimming and then afterwards, I was stung by a poisonous spider as I was putting on my shirt. Apparently, it was waiting inside the sleeve for its next victim to come along :p All kidding aside, though, I don't think that spiders (or any animal, really) have the wits to be that diabolical. If they did that, they were probably just trying to escape.

Peace

Yeah I think the best thing to do is just to try and let them out the house , although it can be difficult especially in the middle of the night when you dont want to wake everyone else up :)

:hmm: :heated: I'm so glad we don't have poisenous ones here that try to sting you, your story brings back memories of when I was a child and there was a spider in my jumper, when I put the jumper on the spider crawled out onto my shoulder from inside the jumper and I didn't realize untill it was going up my neck then when I saw it I freaked out and flicked it onto my mum who was driving the car then she started screaming and nearly crashed the car, she did emergency stop and quickly opened the door and got out and then started jumping up and down trying to get it off her the spider was going crazy and crawling all over the place she eventually flung it away, it was a very traumatic day, we just sat there taking deep breaths after and checking our clothes every few seconds.

Whilst it was in my jumper I could feel something itching me and I didn't know what it was so I would scratch thinking it was just a itch but it was the spider causing it +o( I never wore that jumper again I gave it to charity. Now whenever I get an itch under my jumper I check thoroughly to make sure the spider hasn't come back to haunt me.

The trouble is catching them cos they crawl so darn fast :raging: and if you miss them then they take cover under some furniture where you can't see them then you're left sitting there waiting for them to come back out. They shock you because when you look at them, you don't expect them to crawl as fast as they do.

Thats happened to my on several occasions and its really a nightmare to deal with, it then just becomes a waiting game between you and the spider to see who will make the next move :)

Once that happened and I was waiting for 1 hour for it to come back out then I decided to move the furniture, so I lifted it up and there was nothing there :heated: it had somehow escaped without me realizing, then I was looking around the room all night, didn't really sleep properly till 2 days later when I saw it again. Then I was able to sleep :hmm:

There are two poisonous spiders that live in my area, and several non-venomous ones that resemble the poisonous ones. I usually don't get close enough to find out which is which.

Hmm. I generally put them outside. I found a spider hanging out on the wall above my bed one night. So I grabbed a cupcake box, asked the spider to jump into the box. It jumped in and I closed it. Took the box outside and let it go. :)

While I think this is the best and most merciful solution, I don't think I can personally do this. I love spiders and all animals and wish them all the best, wouldn't really want to harm them, but I am afraid of them, even though I know they won't do anything to me, insha'Allah.

I usually call me mommy or brother to come and get rid of it for me.

There is however one less-scary way to do that. Sometimes I take a big paper and put the spider on the end of it (this way the spider won't have time to get near my hand) , then quickly take the paper (with the spider on it) outside.

I seem to be afraid of them too , I tend to try and trap it in a jar then let it outside , if I used a piece of paper I would worry about it somehow escaping from my grip and attacking me :)

Alabama. Southern USA.

We have the brown recluse and the black widow here, both of which are poisonous. Their bites rarely kill healthy adult humans, but still cause a lot of pain and discomfort. You don't want to take a hit from either one. Fortunately they prefer to hide rather than attack and only bite when threatened.

For the arachnides-lovers or aspiring to become spiderman:

Brown Recluse

Black widow

Hmm... I've seen pictures and images of brown recluse bite victims: they left a big hole in the flesh after several days if left untreated. Too disgusting to post here.

We don't have the Brown Recluse here in South Carolina, our only dangerous spider is the Black Widow. I used to live in Texas and the Recluse is found there, you are correct, their bite causes a nasty wound.

I figure if I have a spider in my house, there must be insects or similar to feed it, so it is doing me a favor by keeping the bugs down. If I see many spiders then I must have too many bugs and I should make sure I do a better job to keep my home clean.

Brown recluse venom is necrotic. It eats away at the skin tissue around the bite which causes those nasty wounds if left untreated.

I once saw a TV program about it and it showed pictures of people with necrotic wounds from brown recluse bites. In most cases, the people in question were unaware that they had even been bitten until they discovered the necrotic wounds. In almost all cases, they were bitten in their sleep and woke up with bloody sheets and then discovered their wounds.
