:sl:
ok, so recently ive been letting my nafs get the best of me. all my plans have failed, and i just keep committing this sin. we will call it sin #1. alright, so recently i found a way to stop myself from going through with sin#1. This is what iIdo: whenever sin #1 pops into my mind, I pop my wrist with a rubber band that i wear. i pretty much wear the rubber band anywhere i go, and i usually take it off when showering or making wudu. I wear it when i go to sleep because sometimes I just randomly wake up in the middle of the night, and my desires rush in like crazy and i end up committing sin #1. This rubber band helps me to stop thinking about this sin, since the pain i receive once i pop my wrist creates this message to my brain that says "hey dont think about sin #1 again, or the suffering will continue". And this really work. Even when i have the rubber band on my wrist, i dont think about sin #1. It only pops up in my mind through an outside force, like television (which i am decreasing my time in steadily). And therefore, I dont commit the sin Alhumdulillah.
But i was scared that this rubber band would fall under the shirk category since i remember reading on a website that wearing amulets and bracelets with the intention to ward off evil or to gain luck is strictly forbidden in Islam.
Now I obviously do not think that this rubber band wards off evil or brings me luck, its just a way to help me stop doing sin #1. all credit is given to Allah, the most merciful for helping me. but even if my intention is good, does wearing this rubber band still fall under the shirk category?
I hope my question is clear to everyone and if anyone has trouble understanding, please dont hesitate to ask.

does this rubber band stop you in a physically restrictive sense from committing sin no.1? as in would it be the same as you tying your hand to your back so it physically makes you incapable from committing sin no.1? If so, it isn't shirk - it's a measure...

The shirk is this:

The basic principle is that whoever believes that one thing is the cause of another when Allaah has not made it so, is overstepping the mark and not acknowledging Allaah as He should be acknowledged, because the One Who makes things happen is Allaah alone. For example, if a person seeks healing from a piece of string (tied around his wrist), and says, “I believe that healing is in the hand of Allaah and this string is simply the means,” we would say to him, “You have saved yourself from major shirk but you have fallen into lesser shirk, because Allaah has not made string a clear means of healing. By doing this you have transgressed against His position of Controller and Sustainer, by making something a means to something else when Allaah has not made it so.”

Hope this helps.

Assalam Alekum Respected Brother.

I dont know whats this "Sin no #1 thing neither i wanna know, but i can say this for sure this is not "Shirk".Its simply a thing that help you divert your attention. Its like a brain excercise, cant be taken as shirk as you seems to be very logical and trying to make your self pure just for the sake of Allah SWT.

But did you ever think how long will this exercise stop you from that sin??Wanna know a better excercise? Its obviously,"Salat".

"(29:45) (O Prophet), recite the Book that has been revealed to you and establish Prayer. Surely Prayer forbids indecency and evil. And Allah's remembrance is of even greater merit. Allah knows all that you do.

If you offer Salat and still it does'nt help, you should keep the company of religious friends and people.Reading good books change your mind some how but to practice good deeds,we need good people around us.Its like a motivation.

Also,i found this page, they have some really good tips that will help you Inshallah more than the Rubber band do.

May He SWT help you following the right path, keep all goods near to you and keep all bad deeds away from you and make the right path easy for you to follow.Amen.
