Assalamo Alaikom,
Nobel Prize in Physics 2011, was given to 3 researchers which are:

1. Saul Perlmutter
Born: 1959, Champaign-Urbana, IL, USA
Affiliation at the time of the award: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA, USA, University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA

2. Brian P. Schmidt
Born: 1967, Missoula, MT, USA
Affiliation at the time of the award: Australian National University, Weston Creek, Australia

3. Adam G. Riess
Born: 1969, Washington, DC, USA
Affiliation at the time of the award: Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA, Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, MD, USA

Reason (motivation): For the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae.

but .....
The Moslims World knew this fact since more than 1400 years ago !

its funny really, most things we learn today have been discovered in ancient times; alchemy back then is equal to science today, witchcraft and satanism is today coveted as the foundations of western society, end times man, end times.

funny thing, science was greatly inflated after the 1700s by all those masons, the increase of secular knowledge... religions have all the knowledge in the world praise be to Allah/God/Yaweh and His many powerful names along with the prophets...

really peculiar...

Huh. I thought the prize this year would be with regards to parallel universes or CERN or some random area of quantum physics.

Alhamdulillah.

The key word here, in relation to winning the prize, and the discovery made, is accelerating.

The fact the universe is expanding was "discovered" by Edwin Hubble in 1929, and has been accepted as scientific fact since then.

However, it was thought that the expansion was gradually slowing down, whereas as the above researchers have discovered that the expansion isn't slowing down, and that it is, in fact, accelerating.

I guess theoretical physics has hit some barrier and need to wait for CERN to discover new things and get them tested (eg. neutrons travelling faster light which still need years of review).

power of Allah

Noble Verse 51:47 "And the firmament, We constructed with power and skill and verily We are expanding it."

Their discovery raised a question: What is pushing the universe apart? Scientists have labelled it “dark energy,” but nobody knows what it is.

It's “an enigma, perhaps the greatest in physics today,” the Nobel committee said.

.... But Robert Kirshner, a Harvard astronomer who was part of the team that included his former students, Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Riess, said scientists don't know enough about dark energy to predict what will happen to the universe hundreds of billions of years from now.

One possibility is that the expansion will continue to accelerate, he said, “sort of like compound interest gone mad.” It could even speed up so much that not only will galaxies fly apart from each other, but “stuff will really rip apart,” even planets and atoms, he said. That's called the “big rip,” “and I hope that's not our fate.”

On the other hand, Dr. Kirshner said, the expansion could halt and go into reverse, so the universe collapses back into itself, a fate sometimes called the “big crunch.”

With such uncertainty, he said, “it seems very important to learn more about what the dark energy is.”

Dr. Riess said his “jaw dropped” when he got an early morning call at his home in Baltimore from a bunch of Swedish men and realized “it wasn't IKEA,” the Swedish furniture retailer. “I'm dazed,” he said.

Dr. Perlmutter said his team made the discovery in steps, analyzing the data and assuming it was wrong.

“And after months, you finally believe it,” he said. “It's not quite a surprise any more. I tell people it's the longest ‘Aha!’ experience that you've ever had.”

Alhamdulillaah muslims know what will happen.

Maybe 10 billions years from now (that is if the universe not destroyed already), the year 10,000,000,2011 nobel physics prize will be awarded to scientists who will prove that the universe will meet its end like a scroll rolled up (or a male peacock rolled in its tail).
