Hello sister, for understanding islam and also learning how to pray I used this book it is called: OUR LIFE IN THE LIGHT OF ISLAM Compiled by mohammed Shahid Siddiqi , translated by Hafiz Abdullah Ahmed and Transliteration by Dr.Rubina Siddiqi Ismail

I could not find this book on amazon but here is a picture of it..I found this book very useful and hopefully you will tooAttachment 4461Attachment 4462

If you cannot find this anywhere and you really want it, I wouldn't mind putting it up for sale on my amazon account or even ship it to you for free to help you out.

I wouldn't recommend you get that one. I'll see if I can find a good book, and will try and post info here inshaa'Allah.

Others may have good youtube video etc that they know of, so you can see it in action, replay the videos etc.

There are Muslim prayer books? I thought in Islam you have Salat which is just one prayer and then D'uas that you say yourself in your own words.

yes, what the sister is asking for is a prayer guide which is in the from of a book..It teaches one how to pray, the proper formations, the proper things to recite etc.

Also, Salat is just not one prayer, there are different types of prayer, for example fard (compulsory) sunnat, nawafil, witr etc. in each one there might be a slight difference of what is recited or what actions are performed.

Oh, I thought the words and movements were the same in all the fard prayers. Just the number of rakas were different.

I don't recommend that book.
This is a good site to cover the basics:

It is true that the movements are the same and that the rakaats are different between fard shalahs.
I think the sister wants to learn the basics (how to perform maghrib shalah, for example), and want to make sure that she recites al fatiha correctly with meanings, and other surahs or how to say "Subhāna Rabbi-yal A’la Wa Bi-Hamdih" (Glory be to my Great Sustainer, Most High, and I praise Him) during prostration correctly and its meaning.

I feel youtube is also an additional great source for learning shalah, especially in learning about movements and pronunciations, like this one for example:

Serena, I watched that and it seemed fine to me. I felt that the video could have explained that for the Fajr prayer, you need to repeat what's in the video (two lots of standing with prostrations in between, followed by one sitting and turning your head in salaam) once again, i.e. do it twice in total, to complete the Fajr prayer. It'd be nice if it had a transliteration as well, i.e the Arabic pronounciation written out in English text.

I was going to give a link to a site for new Muslims that teaches ablution and prayer (two forms, one temporary and simplified, while you learn the proper form), and it had transliteration, videos etc, that I thought you and Marina might find helpful - it was working last night, and I've linked to it in the past, but it seems to not be working today. I'm hoping it's just a temporary issue, so will put the links here anyway in case they do work in the near future:

The main home page is: www.muslimconverts.com
The prayer page is this: http://www.muslimconverts.com/prayer/index.htm
Beginners prayer guide (the simplified temporary form til you can learn the proper form) here: http://www.muslimconverts.com/prayer...ers_prayer.htm
Full instructions for the Fajr prayer here: http://www.muslimconverts.com/prayer...-newmuslim.htm

It might be worth keeping checking back, in case they do start working. And if I find anything a bit more useful, will post it inshaa'Allah.

Peace.

A little off topic but to all D'uas start with "Bismillah i rahmah i rahim, alhamduliLlah rabiyal alamin"?
