Looking at the poll regarding occupation, I see the biggest number of forum members are students.
That being said: What is everyone studying and what do they plan to do with said degree?

Just a small business, an agent of a courier company. I also become an internet marketer.
But I have very valuable experience, fell into bankruptcy in my first business, and later fell into depression for years. Alhamdulillah, I could rise again, step-by-step. :)

Good for you!
My wife and I were discussing this last night. Isn't that the way of things? Those who haven't failed or haven't struggled are the ones that never experience life.
How can one know success or victory without having known defeat and humiliation?
God is good...everything, though we often cannot see it at the moment, is a blessing.

I can relate to this. I am thinking about going back to school at the encouragement of some people in my life, but I haven't set foot inside a classroom since 1999. I'm not really thrilled about it, to be honest...

I have uhm, no education... I passed nothing. But Allah has shown me HIS kindness so I am eternally thankful to my Lord the Cherisher of the Worlds, Ameen.
With no education, I've held some pretty good jobs in the past, alhamdulillah, And all because HE made it happen, HE literally paved the way for me. Long story, but... yes, I am thankful.

I believe God sets out a path for all of us. Some of them require a bunch of schooling, some don't.
You're doing God's will and following his path...there is nothing more noble in the human experience.

I've done a degree in computer science BSc(Hons) and am now a professional software engineer. Allah has given me so much, yet we still do not appreciate this as much as we should.
Anyways, I always pray to Allah to give me more knowledge and confidence, no matter how much I already know.
I think that's one thing that is missing from Muslim countries, research and development in science and technology. It used to be highly sought, but somehow declined. Sad.

i HAVE to return to school... I'm probably not going to finish in english... though i'm so close to it... english and russian.... for that matter. I want to get my degree in psych... oddly enough it was what i had first started the uni. in, however i changed after a neuro psych course ... ( long story.. ) and then switched to english... and then added russian..
i should have stuck w/ psych.
I should have done something after i was assaulted to keep myself there, instead of leaving...
as it stands I won't have any family support even though i live w/ family...
it won't be easy....
at all
but if i can just figure out how to get back in, at least i'll enjoy the learning part.

I'm not being selfish or arrogant with this statement, but try to think about, having the knowledge of an engineer, who creates new thing for the people of this world thanks to HIM is something that will only motivates me to get closer to Him and thank Him for all the things we have developed and made.
And with the knowledge of a doctor,I will be able to know and completely understand how perfect is our body thanks to Him the only one who create us.

medicine is boring. (sorry i said that) . It is however very beneficial if used right. nowadays it's more a means of earning, but i htink if people aimed to help people, discover cures, etc, it would be better.
aeronautical engineering seems so much more interesting and muslim aeronautical engineers are needed. nowadays people are dependent on nonmuslim countries for planes and technology. i beleive every community should be self-sufficient and not dependent on another.

do what you are interested, take the classes you like, starting early, in high school. study subjects related to your line of study. for example those who want to do MBA should take introduction to business, management, etc in high school if their high school offers them.
focus on subjects that you're interested in since this is going to be your career and you'll be working with it much of the day. i knew in high school that i wanted to be an accountant and a writer so studied subjects related to both.

Completed a degree in Polymer & Color Chemistry in 2010.
Sent a few job applications and became undecided about going into corporate R&D at the time.
Just started a [non-thesis] Master's of Physiology last August and will hopefully complete it in the spring of 2013.
On the fence about applying to optometry school or applying for R&D related jobs and/or learn about computer networking.
:nervous: I feel that I have been in school for too long and I'm beginning to feel burnt out.

Most law students really struggle to become a Solicitor. I previously worked in the legal field as a Paralegal and it is so competitive. I think you should avoid it like plague unless you have a training contract in place before you commence your LPC. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. It would be terrible if you complete your LPC but unable to qualify.

I know its pretty hard. I was thinking of doing the LPC part time, because alot of people struggle with it, a friend of mine dropped out :/ As for a training contract, someone has that sorted for me so all is well. All about passing the exam I have left now.. :)

LPC should not be too difficult. It's actually quite straightforward if you are able to cope with a Law Degree. I understand there is a lot of information to learn.
You should seriously consider a different career path. Firms are simply not recruitment as much as they used to. You are going to face so many rejections, unless you have experience.
If you have experience working in a law firm, then I believe you will have a chance. Six months experience should be sufficient, along with good grades.
Not trying to put you off, but something for you to consider before you commence on your LPC.

A good friend of my uncle is going to give me the training contract, so I'm not worried about that. I want to do it. It's my dream to become a solicitor lol. I might just do some work experience in some local firms, so that should help.. :)

^ Lucky that you have a relative friend to help you out. Most law graduates do not have that support...

I graduated in Business & Management, majoring in Marketing in 1989. Theoretically very useful but practically not very applicable. What was learnt were exceptional circumstances and situations that paved the way for the successful stories of leading industrialists of today. We cannot follow them as the situation is different an opportunities are extremely rare.
Having the basics has helped and I have found that education, up to to point really helps in report writing and paperwork stuff. Lack of it really slows down the administrative process but not necessarily relevant in field work.
Anyway, I started my working life in the sales sector, then moved to marketing before entering the management... Tough handling people!:exhausted

It was accounting along with some courses in journalism and creative writing. Then I studied Islamic banking and Islamic economics with a major in Islamic banking. Worked in management and saw that I absolutely love it - it's very interesting - so now am taking some courses in Business management and then I might do CMA.

Physicist here, Master's level, going for a PhD while doing very decently salaried research work. For the first time since, like, forever, my life is on the right track. :)
