I wrote this poem a few months back and published it on a poetry website but thought I'd share it here as well.. Enjoy :)

(And whoever else writes poems, I'd love to read them!)

-Baby in War-

This poem came to me one day when I was reading a news report about a girl in Palestine. The soldiers broke into her house and damaged it all - killing her whole family except her, since they didn't see her hiding. When they left, she got up and walked around, trying to see if anyone lived, but her mom and dad were dead. Then she heard crying and saw her little baby brother only a few months old on the floor bleeding. She held him on her lap until he died from wounds and loss of blood. And so I imagined of what her last lullaby to him would be and I started writing this poem.

Hush little baby; close your eyes
Don't think about it; the agony will die
Just hold onto me; I know you're scared
You've done so well; even when the pain flared

Hush little baby; so cold and small
You haven't even gotten the chance to crawl
Look at me, little one, I saw it all-
Saw the blood, heard the screams echo through the wall

Hush little baby; mama would've been so proud
Before the soldiers shot her, she screamed your name aloud
Even baba put up a fight before he too fell down
Covered with blood in the midst of green and brown

Hush little baby; give me one last kiss
It's almost over; then comes the bliss
A part of my heart you will forever hold
Soon you'll be with mama and baba out of the cold

Hush little baby; you're so rigged and blue
How will I manage to live without you? I haven't a clue
But one thing is certain: I really loved you
But now you're gone.. A fact I cannot undo
