As Salāmu Alaykum does Islam encourage Muslims to give Sadaqah or Voluntary Charity ? Can anyone post verses about Sadaqah or Voluntary Charity from the Quran and or the Hadith ? How is Sadaqah or Voluntary Charity not like Zakat ? Zakat is 2.5% does Sadaqah or Voluntary Charity have no limit to how much you can give ? Is Sadaqah or Voluntary Charity based on your means to give ? Can Sadaqah or Voluntary Charity be Progressive and not a Flat Fixed Rate like Zakat in other words if a Wealthy or a Rich person or persons have a lot of money income or wealth may they give to Sadaqah or Voluntary Charity more of their wealth then a lower income or a person who is middle income or non Wealthy. Correct me anyone if Im wrong but Zakat is Obligatory Charity correct ? Since the Hoarding of Wealth is not allowed in Islam can the Zakat rate be rised to stop Hoarding or is Sadaqah used to stop in what way is Sadaqah used to stop Hoarding since Sadaqah is Voluntary and not Obligatory like Zakat since Zakat I have heard is Obligatory thank you ?

Zakat vs. Sadaqah:

In addition to the required alms, Muslims are encouraged to give in charity at all times according to their means. Additional, voluntary charity is called sadaqah, from an Arabic word meaning "truth" and "honesty." Sadaqah may be given at any time and in any amount.

Fundamentals of
Islamic Economic System

CHAPTER 20

6.
Distribution of Wealth:
Capitalism does not believe in fair and
just distribution of wealth. Since it believers in full economic freedom and
private ownership of means of production, wide economic disparities exist in
capitalistic economy. Concentration of wealth in few hands takes place while
huge majority of the populace is deprived of the very basic necessities of life.
The privileged few live in luxury while poverty, ignorance, disease and
unemployment is the lot of the multitude. This disturbed balance of distribution
of economic resources and unbridgeable gulf between the haves and have-nots
ultimately leads to class struggle and ultimate overthrow of the very
system.

Islam, on the one hand guarantees
provision of basic human needs such as food, clothing and shelter to everyone
and, on the other hand, ensures fair and equitable distribution of wealth and
economic resources among all. It does not tolerate existence of wide disparities
among the rich and the poor and tries to eliminate concentration of wealth in
few hands. For bridging the gulf between the rich and the poor and for ensuring
equitable distribution of wealth, Islam has taken many steps such as Zakat and
Sadaqat, laws of inheritance and bequest, voluntary charities and compulsory
contributions in the form of taxes and duties. To prevent concentration of
wealth in few hands Islamic economic code has taken measures like abolition of
interest, prohibition of earning of wealth through haram means, prohibition of
hoarding of wealth, etc.

4.Economic Equality:
Economic equality is another claim of communism although it has
never been realized so far. In theory at least it is claimed that the rights of
the individuals in the economic sphere are governed by the principles of
equality. Every individual is provided with the necessaries of life according to
his needs.

Islam, unlike communism, recognises
that there is no equality among human beings as regards the economic means and
possession of worldly wealth. The Qur’an considers these inequalities and
disparities in the distribution of wealth as part of Divine economic order and,
therefore, does not try to eliminate them by unnatural and artificial means. The
existence of economic disparities, in fact, is a test by which Allah tries the
human beings how they behave in good and bad circumstances. However, Islam does
not permit the differences in possession of wealth to assume such proportions
that concentration of wealth takes place in few hands who live in luxury while
vast majority of people lead a life of abject poverty, misery and deprivation.
Islam does not tolerate the existence of unbridgeable gulf between the rich and
the poor, but unlike socialism it does not believe in equal distribution of
wealth. Actually Islam believes in fair, just and equitable distribution of
wealth and in social justice. For ensuring equitable distribution, Islam has
taken many steps such as institution of Zakat and Sadaqat, laws of inheritance
and bequest, voluntary alms and levy of compulsory contributions in the form of
taxes and duties. In addition to this it has abolished interest, prohibited
unfair and unlawful means of earning wealth and banned hoarding of wealth so
that wealth should not concentrate in few hands.

Islamic economic jurisprudence

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Islamist movements and authors generally describe an Islamic economic system as neither Socialist nor Capitalist, but as a "third way" with none of the drawbacks of the other two systems.[3][4]

Can Sadaqah be given to the State Treasury in an Islamic State or not ? Or can only Zakat be given to the State Tresaury ? Also are Muslims told to give based on how much they are able to give or far as Sadaqah ? I know Zakat is 2.5% but the Poor don't pay it ? Also Sadaqah is based on means to give is this what the below verses from the Quran are saying thank you for replying to this thread ?

17:26-29
"You shall give the due alms to the relatives, the needy, the poor, and the travelling alien, but do not be excessive, extravagant. The extravagant are brethren of the devils, and the devil is unappreciative of his Lord. Even if you have to turn away from them, as you pursue the mercy of your Lord, you shall treat them in the nicest manner. You shall not keep your hand stingily tied to your neck, nor shall you foolishly open it up, lest you end up blamed and sorry"

Kinda off topic but how often do you have to pay Zakat? Is there a set amount of time?

If you mean zakat from "profession income" (salary, business profit) that 2.5%, Muslims are allowed to set by themselves, once in every two weeks, once a month, once every few months, once a year is also okay.

I pay once a month, plus sadaqah few time a month. And I don't need to leave my office because there is zakat and sadaqah box from a zakat institution in my office.
