Solly the hippo dies

August 24 2012 at 11:50am

Johannesburg - Solly the hippo, who has been stuck in a swimming pool in Limpopo since Tuesday, has died, a report has said.

According to EWN, the young hippo died on Friday morning before an attempt to rescue him from a swimming pool could get underway.

Solly had reportedly been in distress after the pool was drained in preparation for a rescue operation.

A veterinarian who was hired to tranquillise the hippo arrived at the scene nearly four hours late, and couldn't save him, EWN said.

Solly has been stuck in the guest swimming pool at the Monate Game Lodge, near Modimolle (Nylstroom) since Tuesday.

He is believed to have been chased by a larger bull hippo from his local dam ending up trapped in the10x5m pool.

On Thursday, Simon Prinsloo, of Nylsvlei Game Dealers, told The Star details of the rescue plan.

Prinsloo had said that Solly would be darted with a tranquilliser. Once it had taken effect, the hippo would be blindfolded and strapped into a harness. A crane would then hoist the animal out of the swimming pool.

Solly became a media sensation after the online community anti-crime organisation eblockwatch asked its members for help to rescue him. - IOL

Why am I posting this story?

Im upset,
that the death of a hippo is making headlines and has received more social media updates and stirred up more conversation.......than the HUMAN TRAGEDIES that are occurring around the world as we speak.

Tweets from local news networks such as these:

TimesLIVE: We're weeping for Solly the hippo who died while rescuers tried to save him from a pool he fell in, in Limpopo"

News24: "Sad news: Solly the hippo has died during a rescue attempt."

And Im upset that people are laying blame of this hippos death to the vet who arrived 4 hours late to tranquillise it.
--> Yes, this was negligience.
But, cant we understand that the at the end of the day, the outcome would have been the same?

If the vet had arrived earlier - would the hippo be alive now?
Was the death of the hippo not written for this day and its specific hour?

And Im upset,
that the very same people who are currently ranting about the death of a HIPPO, have NO clue about the situation in Burma.
In fact, Ive just been asked: 'Whats happening in Burma?' 'Wheres Burma?'

Such is our condition.

Where the life of an animal holds more importance than that of thousands......no, millions of people - bearing unmentionable torture and hardships.

if people are Muslims , then there are lives are worthless . If the dead / injured person is a non Muslim , specially Jew , then the picture will be different .

And ya , Of Course even lower animals are more precious than the lives of Muslims :(

There is a lot of sadness coming from you two, sis ~Zaria~ and sis Muslim Woman. Do not lose heart or feel inferior. Remember the Prophets and Messengers of Allah.

When you feel lonely, recall how Adam (as) felt when he was sent to this earth alone.
When you can’t see any logic in what’s going on, and questions arise, recall Nūḥ (as) who built the biggest ship on dry land without questioning.
When you find your parents opposing you (in dīn), recall Ibrāhīm (as) who was thrown into a blazing fire by his father.
When you are hurt by your own, recall Yūsuf (as) who was betrayed by his own brothers.
When you are ill and your whole body cries with pain, recall Ayyūb (as) who was more sick than you.
When you’re stuck, and cannot find a way out, recall Yūnus (as) who was stuck inside the belly of a whale.
When you’re mocked, abused, and taunted by your own, just because you adopted dīn over dunyā, recall Muḥammad (saw) who faced much worse.

And finally Allah says about His Prophets and Messengers, "They are those whom Allah had guided. So follow their guidance...".

:hmm: reminds me of stupid headline news when some cat gets rescued from a tree. Sad to see how bad people's priorities are isn't it?

what do you think when zionist-dogs are in banking systems, and rule the world from china to the US;
Loss of human life mean nothing for them, they just want to push their goals

We Jews, we are the destroyers and will remain the destroyers. Nothing you can do will meet our demands and needs. We will forever destroy because we want a world of our own." (You Gentiles, by Jewish Author Maurice Samuels, p. 155).

Ever heard about Yue Yue?.

Wang Yue (Chinese: 王悦; pinyin: Wáng Yuè), also known as "Yue Yue", was a two-year-old Chinese girl who was run over by two vehicles on the afternoon of 13 October 2011 in a narrow road in Foshan, Guangdong. As she lay bleeding on the road for more than seven minutes, at least 18 passers-by skirted around her body, ignoring her. She was eventually helped by a female rubbish scavenger and sent to a hospital for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries and died eight days later.

I was crying when I watched this video. So, if you are not strong enough, don't watch this video.
