EVENT SPEAKERS

Shaykh Abdul Qayyum

The Shaykh was born on the 1st of March 1960. He is currently a Imam and Khateeb at the East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre, 46‐92 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1JQ. From 1988 – 1990 he was a Lecturer and Khateeb at Jamia Islamia, Ghazipura, Dhaka, Bangladesh. From 1988 – 1990 he was a Lecturer and Khateeb at Jamia Islamia, Ghazipura, Dhaka, Bangladesh. From the year 1990 – 1992 he was a lecturer at the International Islamic University, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. The Sheikh obtained his M.A in Arabic Language from the prestigious Muhammad Ibn Saud University, Riyadh. He is a former lecturer at the international Islamic University of Malaysia. This is the first time that Imaam Abdul Qayyum has been invited to deliver a lecture at an Islamic Dawah Centre Annual English Conference.

Shaykh Abu Abdillah Yunus bin Mahmoud

Shaykh Abu Abdillah Yunus bin Mahmud was born and raised in the UK. Having memorised the Qur’an at a young age, he recently graduated from the Islamic University of Madinah (KSA), completing a diploma in the Arabic language and thereafter obtaining a BA (Hons) degree from the faculty of Shari`ah (Islamic Law). In addition to academia, he has studied extensively outside the university in the traditional method at the feet of reputable scholars of the Prophet’s City, including the Muhaddith, Shaykh `Abdullah al-Fawzan, Shaykh Khalid al-`Afifi and Shaykh Ahmed Raashid Ateeq ar-Ruhailee. He has studied and memorised numerous classical texts in a variety of Islamic sciences including Fiqh, `Aqidah, Hadith, Usul, Mustalah etc, with Ijazat (authorisations) to teach. The Shaykh has also been active in the da`wah in the UK, having delivered a number of short courses, summer intensives and Jumu`ah sermons over the last few years. He has been a regular Khateeb, Lecturer and Teacher at the Islamic Dawah Centre for the past 6 years delivering sermons, lectures and public intensive courses including the Explanation of the Chapter of Revelation from Sahih Bukhari, Explanation of Shaykhul Islam's al-Laamiyyah and many other topics in lecture/course formats. We ask Allah to preserve him, increase him in knowledge and action, and give him the ability to benefit the Muslims, Ameen. This is the first time that Abu Abdillah has been invited to deliver a lecture at an Islamic Dawah Centre Annual English Conference.

Shaykh Abu Bilal Sanel Abdurahman

Shaykh Abu Bilal graduated from Madinah Islamic University (K.S.A) with a BA Hons in Shari'ah and specialises on the field of Fiqh and Aqeedah. He graduated with a Bachelor in Shariah-Law, 1428 A.H. (2007). He successfully completed the course at the Arabic Language Institute, Al-Madinah (KSA), during a period of three years Arabic language course from the year 1421-1424 A.H. (2000-2003). He has a general Ijaza (accreditation) in some of the major Hadith- and Fiqhbooks (by S. Hamid al-Buchary, Al-Madinah). While studying he has attended a number of regular duroos and seminars by notable scholars (mainly from AL-Madinah) at the Prophets’ Masjid as well as privately. He was a full time KS1 & KS2 Teacher at Olive Tree School, Lewisham (London, UK). In addition to that he is a part-time Khateeb and lecturer in different places delivering Friday Sermons in different languages (UK and Switzerland). Development and supervisor for Swiss Muslims Scouts, Zurich (Switzerland), 1419 A.H. (1998). He has done different translations of Islamic texts (Arabic-German-English). He is currently a primary school teacher at Apex Primary School were he helps and supports the need for a high standard of academic education coupled with an Islamic atmosphere. He has delivered many Friday Sermons, courses and lectures at the Islamic Dawah Centre helping us bring positive community change. Abu Bilal has delivered regular sermons at an Islamic Dawah Centre Annual Conferences for many years now.

Hamza Andreas Tzortzis

Hamza Andreas Tzortzis is an international public speaker on Islam, a writer, lecturer and intellectual activist. He is particularly interested in Islam, politics, western and Islamic philosophy. Hamza has debated prominent academics and intellectuals and delivers presentations across the world on various topics; ranging from 'Does God Exist', 'Why Islam?', 'The Miracle of the Qur'an', 'Islam or Atheism?' to 'Can we live better lives without Religion'. Hamza is a regular speaker at University campuses, and has also travelled the world extensively to deliver lectures, most notably in the USA, Malaysia, Canada and Lebanon. Hamza has authored a number of Islamic publications, including the popular website www.theinimitablequran.com as well as serialising number of articles on his popular blog. He has also led major pieces of research including 'non-Muslim perceptions of Islam and Muslims' and 'Embryology in the Qur'an' through iERA. Hamza is one of the main initiators of the contemporary emergence of Muslim public debaters and speakers using western and Islamic philosophy to defend and explain Islam. Hamza is a Head of iERA Research and Lecturer for iERA. This is the first time that Hamza Tzortzis has been invited to deliver a lecture at an Islamic Dawah Centre Annual English Conference.

Adnan Rashid

Adnan Rashid is a historian with a speciality in the history of Islamic civilisation, comparative religion and Hadith literature. He has an honours degree in History from the University of London and is currently pursuing further studies. He has also gained ijazaas in Hadith from a number of scholars. He also takes a keen interest in lslamic numismatics and ancient manuscripts.. He has debated many high profile figures in the field of politics, history and Christian/Islamic theology. He has defended his views in many prestigious universities including the University of Warsaw (Poland), the American University of Beirut (Lebanon) and The Trinity College Dublin and numerous other universities across the UK and internationally. He has also represented Islam and Muslims on a number of reputable media platforms such as the BBC. He is presently serving as a khateeb (delivering Friday sermons) in a number of London Mosques. He is presently conducting an extensive Tafseer Course explaining the meaning of the Qur'an to wider audiences based upon the work of Ibn Katheer. Adnan also specialises in the Seerah (Life of the Prophet). Adnan believes that Islam is a way of life which promotes modernity (in all of its positive manifestations) and provides realistic solutions for all problems facing mankind. Adnan Rashid is a senior researcher for iERA. This is the first time that Adnan Rashid, has been invited to deliver a lecture at an Islamic Dawah Centre Annual English Conference.
