There have been a lot of wars down through the centuries in which Muslims have fought.
One often hears about the Islamic "holy war" (as it is referred to in English) or Jihad.
What I was wondering firstly is what exactly characterises a war as a Jihad and not just a common or garden war.
Secondly, is there a list of major wars which would be considered by Muslims as Jihads?
