To put it simply, what makes Islam right and other religions wrong? What evidence does Islam have going for it, why is it better than say Christianity, or an eastern religion?

no orhter religion claims to have the literal word of God, many are simply the advise or historical accounts of people.

Because simply, it is what has always been, since the beginning. All the prophets of God taught the same thing, came with the same message, which was for people to submit to and worship the One True God alone without any associates whatsoever in His Divinity, and to obey the Prophet. That message never changed. It is the original and only message.

Allah has sent a succession of prophets to people throughout the ages, with guidance to show us how He wants us to live and worship Him.
Muslims believe in all the prophets God sent to guide and warn people, and do not reject any of them, from Adam, to the last and final prophet,
Muhammad, peace be on them all. They were the purest and noblest of humanity and were not divine in any way. God sent all the prophets with
the same message and not different messages.

They taught that people should be under no misperception that they can commit themselves to God as their Lord, and then combine this with accepting others as their Lord, or associating others in His Divinity, in any way. So Islam is not a new faith but is the same Ultimate Truth that God revealed to all prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them). Thus Islam is not named after a specific person (like Christianity, Buddhism), nor after a certain race or place (like Judaism, Hinduism), but is named by God Himself, and the meaning loosely translates as 'submission to God', which is what every Prophet and their righteous followers did, from amongst all times, all races and all peoples. That in itself is one fraction of the evidence that it was the way of all the Prophets from the beginning.

In some religions, the message got forgotten or corrupted. So people started worshipping other gods along with Him, made idols, said that God begot a son, said that certain people were incarnations of God, elevated the status of some prophets to divine, some rejected or blasphemed some of the prophets etc.

Since the time of prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who is the last and final prophet and messenger, Gods message is available unchanged and unadulterated, for the entire world, until the end of time. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wasn't sent as prophet and messenger for a specific group of people and specific time (e.g. as Moses and Jesus -peace be upon them- were to the Children of Israel), but he was sent for all the world, for all time, from his prophethood until the Day of Judgement. Thus he is the last, not first, prophet of Islam; a messenger to all mankind, to be followed until the end of time.

The Qur'an is the last and final scripture of God, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) via the angel Gabriel (peace be upon him). It's message is for the entire world, until the world ends. It is because Allah has promised to preserve the Qur'an that there won't be any need for a new Prophet, because the message is, and will remain, in tact. Thus it is fully preserved with no word in it coming from any human. It is 100% the word of God, unlike the other scriptures that we have with us today, that have been changed by humans, thus it supersedes the previous scriptures.

It has no versions or editions. Millions of people from all over the world have it memorised, and they all recite word for word the same thing. It contains practical guidance on how to live our life, how to worship God, stories of previous prophets from which to learn lessons, warnings, rules, comfort, solace, and in it God corrects any misconceptions people may have about Him or His prophets. It tells us what has always been expected from humans since the beginning of time; what He told His prophets to teach people since the very beginning. That message never changed. The essence of Islam is what always was, and has always been, the true and natural religion; the way of all the Prophets, the original message, the only message.

It's universal message has remained unchanged for over 1400 years, not only a religion, but a way of life, for all people, all times, and all places. It is a complete code of conduct for every aspect of life, from the most intimate, to the most public. It not only exhorts one to be good, but provides complete guidance to practically live that, strongly aiming to prevent problems in society from the outset; solutions for problems are also given. The modern world only stands to benefit from Islam. An increase in knowledge and education, and scientific discoveries, provide further evidence that it is the truth.

Hope that helps a bit and please don't hesitate to ask for further clarification and further questions that might stem from this.

Peace.

According to my point of View, Islam is better then Christianity, because they belief that Hazarat Essa a.s is the son of Allah almighty ( Nazubillah)... As it has been stated in Surah ikhlas:
"Say you, He is Allah, the one.

Allah the Independent, Care free.

He begot none' nor was He begotten.

And nor anyone is equal to Him."
It means, that there is no son of Allah... This belief make islam better religion then Christianity. if you are talking about the other religion, then it is very simple that they do shirk, they worship all those things which are made by Allah. this is the only reason that islam is better then any other religion.,... Why is Islam right? What makes it better than the rest?

Islam says;

Your Creator is One.
Worship Your Creator - Not His Creation!

Definition of worship in Islam; "Worship is an all inclusive term for all that God, your Creator, loves of external and internal sayings and actions."
_______________

If you know of or kind find any religion other than Islam, that is purely this monotheistic and Universal, for all peoples, then please share with us.

Say, "I am only a human being like yourselves.
It is revealed to me that your God is One God.
So let him who hopes to meet his Lord do good deeds
and let him associate no one else in the worship of his Lord."

You've asked such a vague question that any answer I could give to it would have to be either ten words long or ten thousand, and neither length is fit for a satisfactory response. I'm kind of stuck. Eventually there should be several articles on my new site regarding this but we're talking very long term plans here.

All I can say for now is this: an old saying goes that there is something in The Qur'an for everybody. If you read it then you just might find what's in it for you. If you've already read it then try reading a few surahs again. Pretend that you've never even heard of the book. Approach it fresh. I don't know, it's a thought.

What makes Islam superior?
Many qualities. It is a living religion, where the signs mentioned in the Holy Qur'an are constantly seen and prophecies come to be fulfilled in our day and age.

No other religion can claim this. No other religion has a Book like the Qur'an, which is aimed at all of mankind. The Qur'an has explained every matter in the best detail and in few words. Every issue is dealt with and nothing important is left out of it. Every age Islam has brought reformers who have shown the miracles of being close to Allah. No other religion can claim this either.

In short, Islam is a living religion. All other religions are just traditions left after a long time.

Flame of Hope (Call Sign) wrote a thread on "How I Became a Muslim". She went through your issues, Searcher101, and she writes it well.

If Islam is the original religion, as Muslims have strong basis/evidence to believe, then the point is, only Islam is still Islam. The other religions are deviated from that original truth. They are gone like leaves from the tree; they drifted away, mixed into different things, compounded into different shapes, and were given different names and aren't anything much like they used to be. But despite all that nothing completly loses signs of its origins. There are certainly things other religions still have in common with Islam, which people should admire and praise. Islam isn't the opposite of other religions, but it is the true form of other religions . It is much different because it has strictly preserved itself, while other religions have assimilated to different shifts and whims of human ideas and beliefs, attitudes, cultures, etc. Islam is markedly more "strict" than the other religions, just as a tree is a lot harder and stronger than leaves. It needs to be strict so it doesn't suffer the same fate as the other religions.

It is very simple. First of all, Islam is the only religion with the Book that clearly guides, the Qur'an. It is not changed since its beginning, it is clearly from Allah as so many verses of it point out and it contains lessons in so many areas of spirituality that it leaves nothing out to guide Muslims with. The Qur'an is the unadulterated speech of Allah. It is protected by Allah Himself (15:9).

Secondly, the Holy Prophet of Islam (saw) was the Prophet of Allah, for whom history records his presence with more accuracy than is known for any other Prophet of God. Even those who claimed to be Prophets from many other religions after him, there is no account like his and no large set of sayings recorded with an intricate science for transmission like it has been done for him. His words have the best guidance, and Muslims for the past 1400 years still derive very important principles of guidance from them. It speak to all of us Muslims now as it did 1400 years ago.

Thirdly, most importantly, the concept of Allah is so clear and purely Divine that any and every religion falls short of coming up with the proper understanding of Allah. He is ineffable, and yet we know of His attributes. We know Him as clearly as the human heart can understand. What we know of Him speaks to everyone whether they be religious or irreligious. One only need to look for Allah's attributes and then see how clearly Islam has come to know of how Allah is. We can't know very much, but what we know of Him is acceptable to anyone and everyone. Only those who fail to read and understand on His attributes foolishly speak against them.

A fourth reason why Islam is correct and other religions are wrong, is the fact that the signs mentioned in the Holy Qur'an and the sayings of the Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (saw), are consistently true with every age that passes. We see signs all the time, and there is no shortage. We do not need any more miracles like the sea being split into two, water gushing from a stone, a burning bush, a blind person's eyesight being restored, etc. Our signs are all contained in the Holy Qur'an, which is the perfect book, and those who learn and know Arabic always see amazing signs in the Qur'an regarding its linguistic miracles. When a Muslim sees these, their faith is always anew and fresh and they are ready to be even more fervent in their faith to Allah.

These are four reasons which can be detailed with over a thousand facts for each that prove their authenticity. As for signs, there are thousands of them in the Qur'an alone, not to mention the amazing signs in the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). These are always beneficial for establishing the unarguable fact that Allah exists and is always with us. Besides that, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) did do hundreds of miracles. What he did amounts to more than what is recorded of every Prophet (as) from the past combined.

As for why other religions are wrong, I cannot answer that completely. That is a very loaded question because it would require me to answer on behalf of all of those religions. I can state the qualities Islam has which other religions do not have. I mentioned above some of these, but the other very important fact is that Islam has a perfect code for life. Jewish law is in itself very much detailed and good in its own way, but it is not the perfect law. Islam is the religion with the perfected law of Allah, which is for mankind until the time that the Day of Judgment is established. Even when verse 5:3 was revealed, which stated that Islam is now the perfect religion, the Jews said they would have celebrated a festival if they had the same revelation sent by Allah to them. This constitutes a proof that despite any other religion's set of laws, the Holy Qur'an is the only Book which is indisputably from Allah Himself, that says such a statement as in verse 5:3, that the law of Allah is completed unto mankind. After Islam, no other Sharia can come from Allah, and all other Sharias are contained in Islam and it is the best Sharia for mankind. No man-made law can ever supersede this, and even men try to do so, they will not succeed because Allah does not allow anyone to share in His kingdom, especially those who go astray.
