me--Haram
she- haram to you, I accept it. I reject very many literal interpretations, especially very many regarding women and sexuality. I'm not ignorant, I have made my choice.

she- I think he would have said that he is disappointed that people have rendered women nothing but animals not capable of expressing their humanity. I think he would have been extremely disappointed that women have been dehumanised to such an extent that all the freedoms and autonomy that he fought for, has been regressed to such a level that two women dancing happily, fully covered would be deemed as haram. I know that I would've loved to be able to speak to him face to face...I have thought about this long and hard.

The whole culture of treating women in such an objectified way, is what he fought against. However, maybe as it is here in the West now, women were objectified by being uncovered, so they covered and were encouraged to cover to fight against the objectification. The whole point, which seems to be missed by so many 'religious' people is that the point wasn't primarily about their sexuality, it was about validating their humanity. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

Salaam.

If she is a good friend to you, keep her added and talk to her.
Just don't bring up the conversation. People won't understand.

Did you write that openly so everybody could read it or privately? I think that is important to consider as well as the tone of your posts.

Aselam aleykum,
Yes, that's indeed very condescending. I mean, some issues are not as crystal clear, and just because they seem clear to you, does not mean that they seem clear from somebody elses point of view. If you want to convince that other person of your point of view; it's much better to recognise that. I mean, you don't have to agree with somebody in order to recognise the other's person's point of view. When you state that this person is wrong as a fact, you are basically assuming that he/she has no opinion in the matter, or their opinion is useless, not worth discussing. It's a very condescending way to give advice, even if your heart was in the right place. You will come across like you naturally assume the role of a parent/teacher without the other person actually asking you for advice. In other words, you're acting as though you are this person's superior, as if you're better then him. Even if this is not what you meant, this is how you come across if you approach it this way.
