North Korea says it will launch more long-range rockets and carry out a high-level nuclear test, aimed at the United States.

“We do not hide that the various satellites and long-range rockets we will continue to launch, as well as the high-level nuclear test we will proceed with, are aimed at our arch-enemy the United States,” said North Korea’s National Defense Commission on Thursday.

The defense commission statement offered no timeframe of when the country intended to perform the test.

On Tuesday, the United Nations Security Council adopted a US-backed resolution to sanction North Korea for launching a long-range rocket in December 2012.

The North Korean National Defense Commission said the resolution “masterminded by the US has brought its hostile policy towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) to its most dangerous stage.”
It also dismissed as “illegal and outlawed” such resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council.

On December 12, 2012, Pyongyang announced that it had launched a long-range rocket from the Sohae Satellite Launching Station, located in Cholsan County of North Pyongan Province, and successfully placed a satellite into orbit.

However, the rocket launch drew widespread criticism from the European Union and the UN.

On December 14, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said the country would go ahead with its space program and would launch more rockets and send more satellites into orbit.

However, Washington and its allies said the North Korean rocket launch had been a cover for testing an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

North Korea threatens South Korea with ‘physical countermeasures’

North Korea has threatened to take ‘physical countermeasures’ against South Korea, following a UN resolution adopted against Pyongyang for its rocket launch in December 2012.

“If the South Korean puppet regime of traitors directly participates in the so-called UN sanctions, strong physical countermeasures would be taken,” the North Korean Committee for Peaceful Reunification of Fatherland said on Friday.

“Sanctions amount to a declaration of war against us,” the committee added.

“As long as the South Korean puppet traitors’ regime continues with its anti-DPRK (North Korea) hostile policy, we will never sit down with them.”
On Thursday, Pyongyang said it would launch more long-range rockets and carry out a high-level nuclear test aimed at its “arch-enemy the United States.”

The North Korean National Defense Commission said that the UN resolution “masterminded by the US has brought its hostile policy towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) to its most dangerous stage.”

Meanwhile, White House spokesman Jay Carney criticized Pyongyang’s remarks as “needlessly provocative.”

“Further provocations would only increase Pyongyang’s isolation, and its continued focus on its nuclear and missile program is doing nothing to help the North Korean people.”

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta also said Washington was “fully prepared to deal with” a test from North Korea.

On January 22, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution to impose new sanctions on North Korea for launching a long-range rocket on December 12, 2012.

Pyongyang announced it had launched a long-range rocket from the Sohae Satellite Launching Station, located in Cholsan County of North Pyongan Province, and successfully placed a satellite into orbit.

The rocket launch, however, drew widespread criticism from the European Union and the UN.

I suspect if they proceed with the high altitude nuclear test they are going to invoke the ire of most of the world, not just the UN Nations. The fall out from a high altitude nuclear blast will affect every nation for many generations to come.

They are just going to "Test" the nuclear bomb just like they tested Fat Man and Little Boy on Japan (WW2).
Short war, U.S wins and shows they are #1, North Korea is done for generations...
Inshallah North Korea doesn't get too aggressive.

If NATO wants a war with china, sure they should use a nuke, but NATO will be destroyed. The chinese and the mongols are far more experienced fighters than almost any nation. If you study chinese history you will know why. Turns out the muslims were using almost the same tactics as sun tzu did subhan'Allah. Thats why we were impossible to be defeated.

watch this:

I think we are getting NATO confused with UN. The 28 NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) nations have little interest in Korea. NATO MEMBERS

The UN is the Group that tries to run the world UN MEMBERS and keeps sending troops into battle. Nearly every nation belongs to the UN. The current troops in Afghanistan are UN Troops The US provides the majority of UN troops. But every member Nation provides troops when there is a conflict involving a member Nation. China is a UN Member Nation and I suspect they would also go against Korea if Korea goes ahead with it's High Altitude test.

Yes the nation is starving, however you shouldnt only put the blame on north korea itself. North korea has been hit hard with sanctions from the UN especially after the cold war ended it lost the little support it had from USSR. If we look at both sides i can imagine north korea feeling threatened when US and south korean warships encircle the country.

Same with Iran, US has dozens of bases around it, and the continuing threats against it especially by israel. I dont agree with iran because of some of its secterian policies, but i sincerly believe its nuclear program is innocent.

China has little need for a physical confrontation with the West. They are fast absorbing the west. They have advanced much further than the concept of physical conquest and learned wars are won through economics, not guns and bombs.

China has pretty much already won the economic war with the US. They are fighting a war of economic take over. Currently the US national debt is the result of balance of trade loses to China. Our unbelievably high national debt is mostly money we owe to China.

Very many US businesses are now owned by Chinese investors, China has won the economic war and pretty much now owns the USA. We just haven't woken up to that. HINT: Look on the shelves of any large store and see what percentage of the products are now "Made in China"

I strongly believe that if North Korea shows any ability to enter as a nuclear power, it will soon find itself being a Southern Province of China and Kim Jong-un will be lucky if he can get a job as a street beggar in Beijing.

It's the complete opposite. Some politicians within America want a confrontation with China. Surrounding them with military bases and attacking defenseless countries must concern the Chinese government. These politicians along with certain thinktanks do not care about winning wars, they actually know they will lose in certain conflicts. But they will support these wars as it will benefit them individually rather than the whole countries.

As for the economy, both actually need each other. US is still China's biggest customer...

It is the damage that these countries can cause. If North Korea looks as though they are preparing for military action, this will give an excuse to the USA to take some form of military action against North Korea. China will too take some sort of action. Whatever damage results, it will hurt normal everyday people, like us. North Korea looks as though it is being forced to start a conflict as sanctions are being imposed...

North Korea is a client state of China. It only exists because China continues to support it and inhibits effective UN action, similar to the way Russia inhibits effective action against Syria.

No one will attack NK unless they provoke it themselves - but this is possible because they are borderline insane.

The people starve because of their government's disastrous policies, not sanctions. In fact NK has in the past refused food aid. While they suffer, South Korea has become one of the world's most successful countries.

As for China being non-militaristic - if you look at their attitude to Taiwan, to disputes with Japan and Phillipines in the South China Sea, to border wars with India since WW2, and especially the destruction of Tibetan society, I don't think you could call that economic warfare.

China will not step back from one inch from what it sees as its old empire.

North Korea threatens to take 'stronger measure' than third nuclear test

North Korea has threatened to go beyond carrying out its promised third nuclear test, KCNA state news agency reported.
"The DPRK (Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, or North Korea) has drawn a final conclusion that it will have to take a measure stronger than a nuclear test to cope with the hostile forces' nuclear war moves that have become ever more undisguised," the media agency said.
Pyongyang did not spell out which actions it would take.
It comes after sanctions were placed on North Korea by the UN Security Council, following a December long-range rocket launch.
The launch was in violation of UN resolutions which banned the country from developing missile or nuclear technology after nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009.
Pyongyang says that it has the right to launch rockets for peaceful purposes.
North Korea announced last month that it would conduct a nuclear test to protest against the UN Security Council sanctions, which demand that Pyongyang abandon its nuclear program and cease launches. Sanctions were also placed on North Korean companies and government agencies.

The Security Council ordered Pyongyang to refrain from the test or face "significant action."

Although it was widely speculated that North Korea announced the test in response to the UN sanctions, satellite pictures indicate that the country has been readying its nuclear test site for more than a year.
While most experts believe the nuclear test will take place, the timing is not yet known. Many believe it could come around February 16 – the anniversary of former leader Kim Jong-il's birth.
Earlier Tuesday, South Korea's ambassador to the United Nations said a North Korean nuclear test "seems to be imminent."

Kim Sook said there were "very busy activities" taking place at North Korea's nuclear test site "and everybody's watching."

The ambassador said that he expects the UN Security Council to respond with "firm and strong measures" in the event of a nuclear test.
On Saturday, North Korea posted a video on YouTube which depicted a US city resembling New York engulfed in flames after an apparent missile attack.
The footage was uploaded by North Korea's official website, Uriminzokkiri, which distributes news from the state media.

The video is shot as a dream sequence, with a man seeing himself on board a North Korean space shuttle launched into orbit by the same type of rocket launched by Pyongyang in December.

The picture zooms onto countries below, showing a re-united Korea. It then switches to a US city, seemingly under a missile attack with its skyscrapers – including what appears to be the Empire State Building – on fire or in ruins.

"Somewhere in the United States, black clouds of smoke are billowing," a caption across the screen reads. "It seems that the nest of wickedness is ablaze with the fire started by itself," the caption says.

The video ends with the man concluding that his dream will "surely come true."

"Despite all kinds of attempts by imperialists to isolate and crush us…never will anyone be able to stop the people marching toward a final victory," the video says.

S. Korea warns of pre-emptive strike against North over nuclear tests

South Korea will launch a pre-emptive strike against Pyongyang if the antagonist to its north moves to test a nuclear weapon. Seoul said a first strike would be preferable to North Korea getting an atomic weapon, even if it risked open war.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Jung Seung-jo said Seoul would take action even if it meant risking war with its northern neighbor. Pyongyang recently announced it will conduct a nuclear bomb test in the near future, raising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
General Seung-jo maintained it would be better to risk open war with Pyongyang than have it strike first. Describing a pre-emptive attack as a necessary defense tactic, he went on to say it was paramount that the North does not manage to develop a nuclear weapon.

"If [the North] shows a clear intent to use a nuclear weapon, it is better to get rid of it and go to war, rather than being attacked,"
said the general, addressing the Joint Chiefs. He added that ''a pre-emptive attack against the North trying to use nuclear weapons does not require consultation with the United States and it is the right of self-defense.”
The DPRK was quick to react to Seoul’s comments, condemning them as “warmongering.”
"They do not know what a real war is like and they would shudder after experiencing our military's spirit to attack in a single breath," wrote North Korean news site Uriminzokkiri, calling the South “vicious traitors of the nation.”
North Korea has stepped up its aggressive rhetoric against Seoul recently, following a UN Security Council resolution in January that approved new sanctions against the rogue state. Pyongyong was enraged by the financial penalties and pledged to take “measures to boost and strengthen our defensive military power including nuclear deterrence.”
Following the announcement of the sanctions North Korea announced it would conduct its third nuclear weapons test, stressing that targeting the US and South Korea was not out of bounds.
"We are not disguising the fact that the various satellites and long-range rockets that we will fire and the high-level nuclear test we will carry out are aimed at the United States," North Korea's National Defense Commission says.
Pyongyang successfully conducted a ballistic missile test back in December, demonstrating that it has the potential to launch long-range rockets. North Korea claimed the December launch was to put a satellite into orbit, while it was perceived by the international community as a veiled attempt at testing Pyongyang’s missile capabilities.
International fears center around Pyongyang’s ability to construct a nuclear warhead small enough to be carried on a missile. UN inspectors believe North Korea does not possess the adequate technology, but Seoul maintains it is getting dangerously close.

It does not seem China is very happy with North Korea over this

From the Link

17:00 GMT: China, a permanent member of the Security Council, supported international condemnation of North Korea’s nuclear test and urged Pyongyang to "stop any rhetoric or acts that could worsen situations and return to the right course of dialogue and consultation as soon as possible".
12:00 GMT: Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has summoned the North Korean ambassador to the country, saying he was "strongly dissatisfied and resolutely opposed" to the test. The top official also urged the DPRK to "stop any rhetoric or acts that could worsen situations and return to the right course of dialogue and consultation as soon as possible," Reuters reported.

They eat human meat , their children when they alive , or corps of them when their children die . A lot of news a bout this problem . Have you ever see their things in USA , do you know at least USA send first aid to many country around the world ? USA sometime are bad , but not a lot of country in this world can do like them , even your country .

Obviously not all the population, but the government is. If you have ever read George Orwell's book '1984', this is the living example of it. Who knows what the people actually believe because the government controls everything that they see, and has a spy in every household. They have created the illusion of perpetual war in order to retain control.

They are dangerous because even the leadership may start to believe in their own paranoid propaganda. They are exactly the kind of state that is likely to actually use nuclear weapons because they are mad enough not to care about the consequences.

We can agree the government is dangerous and paranoid.
BUT
They have a nuclear deterrent now which makes them untouchable militarily.

So what is the realistic next step?

It falls on China to contain and transition reformation over time. China stands the most to lose in a regional war. Well besides South Korea and Japan.

I think as China rises they won't want a unstable nuclear armed country on their southern border.

Yes - however, NK is China's stooge and would not exist without them. China has prevented the world from tightening the screws on NK economically.

However, just like some of the US's satellites, NK doesn't always do what it's told. China is no more keen than the US on more and more states joining the nuclear club.

See that's the thing. China is keeping them in power and aiding them economically.

I think China has more control inside NK then we know. Otherwise they wouldn't have let them go this far.

China needs allies in the region and when pushed they can't stand alone against Japan and South Korea.

I see this as pure smoke from the Chinese. A gamble yes but it's a gamble they have to live with.

I don't see the U.S ever being in danger from a DPRK rocket.

Pakistan is the real danger in my opinion.
As we speak nobody on earth is building more nukes.
I think NK is stable compared to Pakistan.

Pakistan is the real danger in my opinion.
NK needs to do more work on its long range missile systems to hit the US - but they'll get there one day.

I agree Pakistan is also a major danger because the government is very unstable. But India is more likely to be their first target.

Also Israel might be tempted to first use if it felt it was in danger of extinction.

The ironic thing is that countries who go to such lengths to develop nuclear weapons - as Iran is doing now - in fact place themselves in far greater danger of a pre-emptive strike. Far from making them more secure, it makes it more likely that they will be attacked.

There is almost no chance that the superpowers will start nuclear wars with each other, but the smaller, maverick states are another matter.

It is simply not in their interest to attack the U.S though.
What is in their intrest is having a deterrent and capability to.

Also you said that countries that develope nukes are opening themselves to attack.
It goes both ways though.

If Saddam had a nuclear detterent there is no way they would be invaded.

North Korea is now untouchable.

Iran is open to attack only until they test a bomb. Then they are untouchable.

I think nuclear armed countries know the consequences of ever using them. I think the biggest danger is a weaker nuclear country like Pakistan getting overthrown and becoming a failed state.

Thank god Syria doesn't have nuclear weapons but they have Chemical weapons and still don't use them. Even during a brutal civil war they know the consequences of using chemical arms.

N. Korea vows to scrap ceasefire if South, US continue military drill

North Korea has threatened to scrap the armistice which ended the 1950-53 Korean War if the South and US continue with an ongoing military drill.
"We will completely nullify the Korean armistice," the North's KCNA news agency said, quoting the Korean People's Army (KPA) Supreme Command spokesman.
Pyongyang warned it will cancel the Korean War ceasefire agreement on March 11 if the US and its "puppet South Korea" do not halt their joint drills.

"We will be suspending the activities of the KPA representative office at Panmunjom (truce village) that had been tentatively operated by our army as the negotiating body to establish a peace regime on the Korean peninsula," KCNA quoted the spokesman as saying.

The announcement from Pyongyang comes as South Korean and US troops launched their annual joint military drills on Friday. Some 10,000 US troops and 200,000 South Korean soldiers are currently taking part in the exercises.

North Korea had previously warned the US commander in South Korea of “miserable destruction” if the US military went ahead with the two-month-long exercise, Yonhap News Agency reported on Friday.

The North and South are still technically at war after the civil conflict ended in an armistice rather than a peace treaty.

Pyongyang's threat follows reports that Washington and Beijing have drafted a series of sanctions to be circulated among UN Security Council members in the wake of North Korea’s third nuclear test last month. Details of the tentative sanctions remained murky, with UN diplomats telling Reuters on condition of anonymity they hoped to receive the draft resolution at Tuesday’s Security Council session.

The United States and other members of the international community have viewed North Korea’s third nuclear test as putting the isolated state one step closer towards developing a nuclear weapon which can target America.

North Korea has framed its nuclear weapon's program as a counter to US aggression which dates back to the 1950s war.

In February, a source close to the highest levels of government in Pyongyang told Reuters that “a fourth and fifth nuclear test and a rocket launch could be conducted soon, possibly this year." The source continued that the fourth test would be much larger than the third, with an equivalent of 10 kilotons of TNT.

War is a good way of keeping the population down. Where ever there is a high population there is a war. The world is too over populated, we need WW3 now. Or would you prefer slow death in a totalitarian state? I suppose people have been controlled for so long that they have forgotten what freedom is and cling on to their oppressed controlled lives. The planet is getting trashed at a rampant rate because of over population. We must have war to get the numbers down. God said to go forth and multiply but that was when there was only a few people plus we are meant to be looking after the planet not wiping out all of Gods creatures which is obscenely sinful. We are at plague proportions now. The West also needs population reduction so I am not a supremicist. Just because some people believe the world is over populated it dosn't mean they are Zionist.

How about leading the way and killing yourself?

Alternatively, you might want to learn a bit of basic ecology.

North korea threatened the US of a balistic missle strike, even though NK made threats in the past, this one is never heard before plus the announced deadline they set on 11th of march.

Suicide is Haram unless you have no choice eg are to be tortured by your enemies or in great pain and suffering that you cannot bear.

There are two paths people can take, the path they are on now of power, greed, rivalry and dominion which leads to hate and war. Or walk away from sin and government and money and power and walk the path of submission to God by being a hunter gatherer with barely any technology.
North Korea is Godless so it looks as if they want to go back to war. South Korea is so corrupt that most of the buildings will fall down by themselves.

Suicide is haram period!
in fact there was a 'sahabi' so heroic in his warfare that he won the praises of everyone and the prophet said that he's of the inhabitants of hell. Much to everyone's dismay at the battle he got wounded and stuck a dagger in himself to end his pain.
I wish people would investigate the religion they subscribe to before converting. I don't understand this rhetoric of pseudo scholars rampant everywhere on this forum.

Humility Woman! Are thee possessed by a djin? What I said was true in nature, but not absolutely litteral. If someone was alone and hurt and rotting away with gangrene and suffering unbearable pain would Allah **** them to eternal hellfire if they cut a vein and died in dignity with Gods name upon their lips?

call it what you will Carl.. and I'll recite the du3a of the prophet to seek refuge from cowardice along with the other qualities that should never be combined in the heart of a Muslim:
اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الهم والحزن والعجز والكسل والجبن والبخل، وأعوذ بك من غلبة الدين وقهر الرجال)

but certainly worse than all that is deviance and perpetuating false information about Islam like suicide or Okying genocide!

Facepalm because of reading karl's posts.

Karl, sufferings are part of our lives, and when you are in such a situation like you described it is a period when Allah tests your faith in him. When the sahabah(Ra) were oppressed, tortured by the pagans they practiced uttermost patience because they knew that one day islam would be victorious, and that the sufferings they encountered were a test from Allah(SWT). Bilal(Ra) got tortured so severely yet he practiced patience, and refused to submit to the demands of his torturers. He endured so much pain, yet he was hopeful and steadfast.

We today are cowards, we are lazy, its mainly because we are on our weakest point and that the allies of shaytaan have managed to let ourselves be ruled by our own nafs, ego, emotions et cetera.

I dont think Nk is joking at all now to be honest. They have just thrown away all the 'peace agreements' with the south, plus the full military drills in the country. North korea has the ability to launch a rocket towards the US, otherwise they wouldnt make this threat.

Very little NK does makes any sense including this threat. They don't yet have a rocket with enough range to hit the US, let alone with a suitable warhead:

However, they are certainly capable of attacking South Korea and the capital is only a short distance over the border. They're insane.

Insane?

On this particular point at least, they are utmostly rational. No country with nukes has ever fallen to foreign invasion. And history so far has shown that while countries that try to get nukes often get opposed during the acquisition process, the pressure invariably loosens and the world community resigns to accepting your nukes as a done deal, a fait accompli, the moment you actually have them. Did you hear about the concerted international effort to make India, Pakistan and Israel give up their nukes? Neither did I.

Yes, but in NK's case, they already have an effective nuclear deterrent - it's called China.

China bailed them out in 1950-3 when communism still mattered and ever since China has been an absolute guarantee that no one was going to invade NK, even if they wanted to (and this is SK's decision, not the US).

So why would a starving nation pay so much money for a deterrent they have had for free anyway for more than half a century? It only makes sense if a) they don't want it for deterrence, they want it for attack, or b) they are insane.

Actually you can have a) and b) together.

There's no cosmic force in the universe that forces China to use its nukes in North Korea's defence. Nothing can compensate for having your own finger on the launch button. Would China engage in nuclear war to rescue a client state whose utility is largely to be a minor thorn in the side of its rival USA? Hardly. If North Korea were to be invaded by conventional arms only, China might not like it, but China would definitely not escalate the situation into nuclear war.

The only logic I can see for Kim Jung Un, is his saber waving is to impress the North Koreans.

I do not see him actually invading anybody. Nor do I see anybody invading NM.

However, after nothing happens he will have bragging rights in NK that he had backed down South Korea, the USA, Japan and maybe even China.

He can justify his people starving and show that his programs have "protected" North Korea.

Sort of like a flea challenging a herd of elephants and when the elephants completely ignore the flea the flea can tell all his friends he backed down the elephants.

North Korea Forces Await 'Final Strike Order' from Kim Jong-un

North Korea's armed forces are reported to be awaiting a "final order" from the country's supreme leader Kim Jong-un before launching a campaign against South Korea.

Ahead of a ten-day joint computer-simulated drill to be conducted by the US and South Korea on 11 March, the North's most widely circulated mouthpiece Rodong Sinmun said: "Our front-line military groups, the army, the navy and the air force, the anti-aircraft units and the strategic rocket units, who have entered the final all-out war stage, are awaiting the final order to strike."
The mouthpiece said the North's nuclear weapons are also in full readiness.
"Puppet regimes in the US and South Korea will be turned into a sea of fire in the blink of an eye," said the daily, raising tensions further in the Korean peninsula.
South Korea and the US have been conducting a joint field training exercise codenamed Foal Eagle since 1 March, and this is likely to go on until the end of April.

Nearly 10,000 South Korean troops and 3,500 American forces along with fighter planes are involved in the manoeuvres.
South Korea says the exercises are intended to secure its territories, but Pyongyang charges that they are aimed at the North.
The North has also announced that it will conduct a two-day nationwide military exercise in response to the US-South Korea drill.
Local reports suggest that Kim has also been visiting strategically important military installations in the country in the wake of the volatile situation.
A military source in Seoul has told the Yonhap news agency that Pyongyang is likely to fire short-range missiles or resort to other forms of attack during the drill. The source vowed to retaliate with greater force if South Korean sovereignty is violated.

They will even make money with old M*A*S*H reruns or a new version M*O*D*K meaning "millions of dead Koreans" and game version by EA Games.
These poor fools are always taking the bait.
