Teachers could be armed in US state of South Dakota

Twitter users stunned by new law that allows teachers and other school staff to be armed

Is arming teachers a good idea or not? Well, a new law in the American state of South Dakota allowing teachers and other school staff to be armed appears to have stunned Twitter.
The backers of the law say the so-called sentinels could help prevent school shootings like that in Connecticut last December.
School districts will not be forced to arm teachers and they would not have to carry guns under the law. But school chiefs will be allowed to choose if staff could be armed, with the law taking effect in July.
But many tweets have been expressing alarm at the move, with the phrase South Dakota trending on Twitter in the UK.
