Indian businessman Datta Phuge’s world’s most expensive shirt made of 22-karat gold costs $235,000

By:Karanvir Singh
Indian millionaire Datta Phuge, a 32-year-old moneylender from the Pimpri-Chinchwad city of Pune for whom gold is the ultimate passion, commissioned the world’s most expensive shirt which is regarded to be an embellishment to his reputation as the ‘Gold Man of Pimpri’. Highly elated to wear his shiny dream shirt, Mr. Datta Phuge who inherited a fair amount of gold and wants to leave behind a sufficient amount for the next-generation, spent a whopping $235,000 on this custom-made shirt as an investment which will keep appreciating. Crafted out of 3.5kg of 22-carat solid gold, this bling shirt created by Pune-based Ranka Jewelers boasts of 14,000 gold flowerings that have been interwoven with 100,000 spangles sewn into a base of finest white velvet, along with 6 Swarovski Crystal buttons. Notably, 15 goldsmiths labored over 15 days at the rate of 18-hours a day to create this opulent shirt with an armor-like appearance.

And to make it extra fancy, the gaudy shirt comes with an intricate gold belt. Reportedly, Datta Phuge ordered this shirt to wear on the New Year festivities, along with his 11 pounds of gold accessories, including heavy chains, bracelets, and rings.

Interestingly, Phugge who owns 22 pounds of gold in the form of 10 chains, 6 bracelets and 25 rings, is not worried for any potential thieves or muggers, as he has his own personal security in place and moves around with body guards.

Additionally, this gold man of Pimpri has also planned to commission a gold phone, whose body would be retained and cover would be made in gold.
Speaking about the items crafted with gold, we have earlier seen some of the finest like the jeweler Ginza Tanaka's $4.2m Disney pre gold Christmas tree for 2012, the world's most expensive cupcake coated in edible 23 carat gold sheets, the gold-plated Porsche 996 Turbo Cabriolet, the Cristallino GOLD football table with 24-carat gold plated accessories by Teckell, the gold-plated computer inspired by the 16th century French King Louis XVI, the custom gold chopper for Donald Trump by Paul Sr., the Dior 24-carat gold tattoos, and the world's first 24 karat gold plated iPhone 5, to name a few.

My honest opinion after I seen the photos: Instead of make him look handsome, these gold shirt and accessories make him look like ridiculous figure in a cheesy movie.

He does look horrid!

Its a free world and he can do as he pleases so long as he doesn't hurt anybody else.

He is seems to be successful. If I could study his accounts I might be tempted to buy shares in his business.

He lend money with high interest (riba) to people who usually poor. If the people who take loan could not pay he send some thugs to take what those poor people have.

From the news: "he has his own personal security in place and moves around with body guards".
